There you go, already we have Josh Cripps being invited to train with us - and he's not a KPD.

My guess is that we may get KPDs as priority, but not all 6 of them. Probably two, maybe three KPDs at a stretch

A KPF/ruckman would be our next priority, so not disappointed that young Cripps will fight for a spot

I think more than anything we need a fwd/ruck as our SSP pick. Club appear to be considering this, as I believe Toby Conway was high on Austin's draft board. If they can dabble in the backline, then that's a bonus. Schlensog seems like the ideal candidate as he can play in those three positions, however clubs have question marks on him. Ballenden, Crossley etc worth a look.

Blake Schlensog (South Fremantle – WAFL)

Age:
21

Position: Key forward/key defender (199cm, 99kg)

A second AFL chance looms for the emerging key-position player after failing to play a game in two seasons on Geelong’s list. Schlensog linked up with South Fremantle for the 2021 WAFL season and was a constant threat for the Bulldogs at both ends of the field. He played as a key defender in his first 11 games and averaged 18 disposals, 7.3 intercept possessions and 3.5 intercept marks. Schlensog then went forward for eight games and averaged 13 disposals, 2.9 contested marks and 2.0 goals, before heading back into defence late in the year. The West Australian reported this week Schlensog had attracted interest from Geelong, Richmond, Collingwood and Gold Coast, but he told the publication the Cats – the club that initially helped Schlensog realise his AFL dream – were “the main ones showing the most positive signs”.

What about the option of keeping the spot open until mid-season draft and assessing who has been overlooked but showing form wherever they are playing?

SSP gives you the opportunity to just recruit a player you like.

MSD, being a draft, is different. And if we're serious about pushing up the ladder then we're gonna be picking somewhere between 6 and 10 depending on how many clubs have a spot open by then. Decent chance any standout immediate-impact types get taken before us.

Also - good chance we have an LTI in the first half of the year, freeing up a spot anyway. Take the SSP pick now to get a player into the system earlier, and the MSD is still likely an option later.

Agree if we were looking at mature age cover for key positions of vulnerability.

But if we are trying to spot 'best available' overlooked 18yo that might be clearer in six months even if we don't have first dibs.

The cut and paste twitter acc.

Copied verbatim from this article & the HUN :-
The account literally links where they got that article from in the post just above. Don't see what's wrong with being a 'cut and paste' account either...

Is clearly a copy and paste account and has stated it is many times…
Saves us scrawling through different sites looking for Carlton related material.

Wouldn't say no, but if it was a forward/ruckman I would prefer Strnadica or a KPP swingman in Ballenden

What is it you see in Ballenden Arr0w?
Didn't even get a look in with Brisbane's KPF/B injuries, and didn't get looked at after delisting...

Can't see him being the answer to our needs...

Similar in what I saw in Sam Collins. Guys like Ballenden are too good for the lower levels and would be a break glass option/backup as a KPF/KPD

There aren't too many players that could step in if we had an injury or loss of form to 2 of our spine players

Think by the sounds of it we will just go best available..

Good to see Josh Cripps get an invite :thumbsupv1:
Be interesting to see the other 5 players that were on Austin's list that missed out.
