A club great who was willing to sacrifice $750,000 to stay but the club refused to pay him what he was worth. Loyalty and blind loyalty is the difference between friends and fools

Exactly - the reason the Club didn’t want to pay close to market price was to make it clear that he wasn’t wanted and that the offer was only for show - I don’t know how quickly we looked to re-sign him but it’s likely we dragged our feet and then gave an underwhelming offer so he got the message

Eddie is not best 22. Period
He probably isn't, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have good footy still left in him.

He still averaged almost 1 goal, over 2 inside 50s, 3.5 ground ball gets, 2.7 tackles, 12.5 tackles, 0.8 goal assists and 3.8 score involvements per game last year.

What let him down in my opinion, is his goal accuracy which fell to a horrible 39.4%. If he brought that back up just a further 20%, he would be averaging 1.3 goals per game, or about 25-30 a season.

Obviously these are all hypotheticals, but I don't think he's as 'past it' as some reckon. If he didn't do his calf during this pre-season, he would most likely still be b22.

kicking is good, are we talking about the same Oscar McDonald that was banned from kicking out of defence when playing at the demons because of his turnover rate.

? Oscar was always considered one of our better disposers coming out of the backline. He rarely took kick-ins because he's not a long kick, but in field play he tends to find a man better than most players his size.

I reckon we'll get to the end of the season, find we have plenty of mids who can win the footy but are limited with their kicking.

Reckon we'll chase a good mid who is damaging by foot.

With the new rule kicking is a must priority and kpp depth

Now just do his stats for the last 2 months of the season.

Too small a sample size, everyone goes through form slumps. He's earnt the right to have one last crack at cementing a spot.

Any news on O Mac? Surely he did enough against the saints to earn a spot. We've already seen with Levi that players can improve dramatically if they're given time, and O Mac's starting point as a forward looks a hell of a lot higher than Levi's was. At least in terms of his ability to kick straight.

I believe the SSP finishes either today or tomorrow, so we'll find out soon. I liked the look of OMac on Thursday so I hope we take him.

I still can't get over the fact of how horrible our spine is looking right now. We have Weiters, Curnow, McKay, Levi, Gov, TDK and Kemp all injured. Hopefully a few of them can get up for rd 1, but I'd rather take it easy and not risk any further damage.

Eddie is best 22 until someone kicks him out. Fisher looks to have overtaken him but there’s still room for a second pure small.

Was still one of the better small forwards in the competition last year based on the important stats. Not sure if that says more about Eddie or the comp.

Very easy for people to conclude he is not best 22 based on goals kicked last year, yet not put up a player who is of equal or greater output. The fact remains he is our best natural small forward. Someone like Durdin may develop into a better player, but atm I'm backing Betts.

I’m abit like this. No one has really gone past him yet. Betts, Fisher and Martin are all going to demand attention from defenders so that is a positive. Last year it was strange because what stopped Eddie having a really productive year was his fumbling even under no pressure at times. He only has to get his touch back and he could still trouble defenders. Fingers crossed we have players go past him though, that will be fantastic for the club.

Oscar McDonald just signed on

He is until sometime replaces him in the forward line, posting emphatic statements is meaningless unless u back it up.

Who replaces him? We have a plethora of potential smalls up and coming, its up to them to push him out.

I think Fish has been given first crack, and on the little exposed evidence he will be succesful in the role.

Murphy, Fisher & then owies/Durdin will play 6 games between them
