Betts kicked 2 goals in the one half which he played in the reserves. An equivalent 4 or so goals in the VFL doesn't suggest that he's past it.

The relative point here is "vfl"

We are not a flag contender this year, yet we will make finals with or without Betts, so I prefer to continue to develop players for when we are a contender

I had the same debate with people before last year, who were adamant he could replicate his last year at the Crows

This situation needs reality

To the extent that he can help getting some system going in the forward lines I think he can add a lot of value - I see him as playing a similar role to Hodge at Brisbane for their backs a couple of years ago - the fact that he is probably good for a goal or two is a bonus. He went public with his attitude regarding not stopping a better player getting a run - kudos to him for doing that and I am sure he knows it is all about on field performance from here on in.

and 2 goals in a VFL half doesn't equate to 5/8ths of **** all in the AFl, just saying ....

Stated last year that he should of been given a coaching role, rather than a player role.

Have always loved Eddie, but his playing role was over some time ago

Does 613 equate to anything?

Back on home deck(s), back with his family, reasonable recovery times, competition for his spot, presumably better ball movement...plenty of things in Eddie's favour this year.

Is that a type of loctite?

Betts is not the player he once was, not even close, but he is still in our best side in 2021.

No doubt he has lost his touch somewhat, but the energy hasn't waned completely and the smarts are certainly still there.

Let the kids force him out. We're no longer in a position where we have to gift games to young kids as we were at the start of the rebuild.

Fisher looks to have taken very well to the role, but nobody else comes close to Eddie at this stage.

Watching the Making Their Mark doco when I saw something very, very intriguing. They were showing some footage of Eddie getting some 1 on 1 feedback and reviewing footage from a game, and there were 3 people in the room at the time:

- Eddie (obviously)
- Cam Bruce
- Matt Owies.

People weren't lying when they said Eddie has taken him under his wing, he's even attending Eddie's review sessions!

Eddie is best 22 every game he is fit to play. Even at 50% of his best, no opposition coach is not going to put his best small defender on Eddie. Which then has a flow on effect for Martin, Murphy and Fisher.
This, that's the definition of a small fwd
Make the most of your limited opportunities and create opportunities when out of nowhere...

So yeah, we are in desperate needs of these one touch players!

T.Stengle to be off-loaded. If he lights it up at SANFL level, any chance mid-season draft time (if he’s even eligible)?. #18 E.Betts handover.

Not sure if serious.

No other Club would go anywhere near him.

He is done!

Adelaide is reportedly set to axe troubled forward Tyson Stengle by early next week.
Stengle was stood down in December after being pictured in front of a plate of an alleged illicit substance.

That followed a drink-driving incident in April, and being caught with an illicit drug alongside Brad Crouch in the Adelaide CBD in late September. The latter incident saw the AFL suspend Crouch, now at St Kilda, for two matches and Stengle for four.

Have you seen why he's being off-loaded?

Stengle is very talented and has the football ability to make it as a top line small foward, Not sure how this kid went off the rails so fast at the crows as he was such a shy quite kid at Richmond whilst he was there.

Carlton are in the perfect position to make this call with Eddie Betts at the club and his opinion would go a long way as to making a call on stengle 'if that was considered'

Think Eddie would know exactly what the deal is with this boy

Plenty of talented kids around who want it enough to live their lives accordingly. This bloke determined to keep his “batting average“ up with repeated strikes. No go zone for any club. Not the responsibility of the footy community to continue “propping” him up. Hoping he gets his life on track, but nobody’s responsibility bar his own. Would have received far more support to date than most with his unfortunate lifestyle exposure.

Surely the days of Eddie being the go to “sponsor” for troubled youngsters is changing. He has kids of his own to raise. The oldest now becoming life aware and doesn’t need negative role models in the house.

Pretty sure Eddie will remain a valuable mentor for young players, particularly indigenous, but his situation is changed. Regularly spoke of wife running the family business during lockdown, so has plenty on his plate.

Perhaps your club needs to take responsibility for the past and present players continuing to transgress in the community. Mentoring and monitoring over enabling would be a great start.
