Greenwood received a pay bump to $500k a year for two years and has a five game trigger (!) for a third year, per the Herald Sun.

Honestly, if I was a rebuilding club and I saw us throw away money and game time on a deal like that, I would be ropable.

The Suns have had every positive intervention thrown their way as far as draft picks etc go, but geez the AFL need to step in and put some accountability around their list management. Giving them a heap of picks but letting them making stupid decisions like Greenwood.

And seriously what other club would ever have looked at Rory Atkins and how he was traveling at the Crows and thought “We need to sign that bloke up on a five year deal!”

Someone’s head needs to roll for that one.

And then with Greenwood they’re trying to downplay it by saying they wanted to keep him and this is a “slight deviation” from that.

Slight deviation?? It’s the complete total opposite!

Someone there needs to be accountable

Slight deviation. If Gold Coast had supporters they'd be furious. I mean there is PR spin and then there is just being a dick to supporters.

I've thought the best way to assist GCS is soft cap expansion. Allow them to buy some decent administration, development coaches, welfare etc.

Stuff that is actually needed, and far less likely to raise angst with other teams than draft picks they piss away.

that’s a big improve on his current situation, and you can see why GC had to reluctantly decline to match.

pretty easy to understand from Greenwood’s position, hard to turn that down

but North? heck. That’s mental

Surely they could have found someone more essential to their future that they could have thrown $1.5m at?

To me this is just another one. Let em wear it as a clash jumper. Multiple times a season. Takes away this argument each year and dilutes the "importance" of them having to wear it.

Denying them makes the jumper a martyr. A rally point for their supporters.

Good points. I'm not convinced most of their club even wants to wear it but when the team is playing well they need something for "they" to tear them apart about. Port aaaaaalways need to be the underdogs or the downtrodden. Us against them. It's just something for their toothless masses to scream about and bring unity to their fans. They might not all drink the koolaid on Charlie being better than Josh Jenkins. They might not all agree with their list management. But by golly do they all agree that it's an absolute travesty of justice that they're being held to the agreement they signed and are being blocked from wearing THA BAAAAAZ!

If they get permission, then it'll be something else. They'll want to use the Magpies logo or some other shit.

But you're right, if they ever get to wear it, as a clash guernsey hopefully, eventually it'll get worn in drubbings and chokes and the 5AA cries that the players were a disgrace to tha BAAAAZ and don't know TROO PWADLAYD FOOTBALL will be more delicious than them not wearing it.

Are you watching 20 year old reruns? Who plays that stuff any longer?

I think there is a pattern of noise influence biased umpiring when the majority of the crowd leans heavily towards one team, regardless in which state that happens. Kardinia Park is probably the worst of it here in Victoria and it is largely because it is difficult for non-Cats supporters to get access to the venue, similar issue with West Coast, very hard for a non-members to get access to seating for eagles home games.

If you look at pre-covid games where crowds weren't limited...

2019 Crows played 2 games at Docklands and 1 at MCG Total frees for 62, total against 62. Crows 10 home games in Adelaide against interstate teams, total frees for 179, total against 131 for a +48 differential.

Maybe that was a bad year.

2018 Crows played 3 games at Docklands and 2 at MCG. Total frees for 92, total against 90. Crows 10 home games in Adelaide against interstate teams, total frees for 222, total against 157 for a +65 differential.

I think there is a bit of a difference and Adelaide Oval and SA supporters aren't the worst of the problems, it is shocking at Kardinia Park or over in Perth. That isn't biased opinion, there is data that backs it up.
IMO the issue is very often the free kicks they DON’T pay for us that they pay for the opposition. Stats aren’t going to reflect that.

I keep thinking how good north's midfield will be. I think Horne is going to be an absolutely dominant player both physically and with output. Then they've got Phillips (who I rate really highly from last year and brings sheer consistency /reliability), Powell who looks like a smooth accumulator.

Not to mention Simpkin and LDU.

i can’t think of anyone… name them
Okay - grab Will Brodie for free? It cost Freo less than nothing.

A lot of players re-signed this off season for less than market rates. Grab one of them.

Admittedly, they probably tried ...

Port have stopped using the Magpies logo, killed it off. Now both teams use the same logo.

I don't understand why this matters. I couldn't care less when and where they wear it.

Each to their own , but it matters to me . Part of me lives to make things as difficult as I personally can for Port in a football sense and that will never change . Bitter , twisted , yep , put my hand up. I don’t forgive and won’t forget the treachery at Victor Harbor when Basheer , Whicker , all club heads ( including Dave Boyd ) pledged to press ahead with the player retention scheme to strengthen the SANFL position only to be back doored by Poort.

sorry , not a bridge builder.

Wear it in their home showdown fine, but our home one? Piss off.
I think the Crows should wear the black and white to honour Russell, considering the Crows were formed from the competition in which he played and from which Port Adelaide players were recruited to play for the AFC.

Imagine.
