Port began wearing black and white bars in 1902. 78 years before your franchise was created.

While you're here can I borrow your never tear up our tarps scarf? Need something to wipe my ass with.

Port Adelaide with "traditional" prison bars - 77 years
Port Adelaide without "traditional" prison bars - 74 years

Not so sure it's really part of their identity.

Depends, he wasn't suggesting he was the only one with that info and stated that clubs were campaigning against it at the time. It was really up to Port to do its due diligence on the matter and not complain after the fact. I'd also think Port would have agreed to the deal even if they knew it was short term...its all about getting the foot in the door and creating a perception of normal...which down the track has resulted in them claiming a Showdown is a heritage match when we all know it isn't considered a heritage match by Port fans but their Grand final.

I wouldn't think that to be relevant. The memo of understanding signed was specifically related to Heritage Round. Huge argument that there's nothing in that document that suggests they intended to sign away their rights to wear that guernsey in perpetuity for a once a year heritage event. I wouldn't think either party would want to spend the $ and have this decided in court.

So clearly you cant read - or at least understand - what I was saying. Your SANFL club was wearing different jumpers from 1870 to 1902....then you chopped and changed jumpers until the 50s. If your argument is “heritage” it is only from the period you want to claim - not what is the actual truth. As for my franchise - last time I looked your AFL team entered in 97....

If Port don't like it, why did they sign a legally binding contract agreeing not to do it?

I'm not sure they did. They signed an agreement related to heritage round rights. Legally binding as it relates to every other round for ever, after heritage round has been abolished is a long way from certain. I'd expect the fact that the agreement is headed as Re:Heritage Round means it's probably dead and buried. All agreements entered into are predicated upon the heritage round being enacted. This isn't cut and dried.

And you are a franchise as well. The AFL control the licensing etc therefore you are a franchise.

Get over it.

And mathematics obviously wasn’t you strongest subject at school either.

the more I think of it, no point in arguing with Powa supporters. They live in their own reality where the facts are changed to whatever narrative they want that afternoon. I personally dont give a rats asa what jumper you wear, but this rubbish about “heritage”
is just false
This crossed my mind today.

Before today, I just didn't give a ****. Every club can wear whatever they want yadda yadda yadda.

But they argue the prison bars should be worn in showdowns as its a heritage of South Australian football

Well - it was a heritage of us vs them. And them is South Australia, so when you get that (Prison Bars vs state jumper) you scream and moan and cry to stop it happening.

They'll claim it's traditional. Yet 31 into their existance they hadnt even worn black on anything. Yet I'd be willing to bet everything if we tried to change our guernsey tomorrow, they'll be jumping up and down claiming we're a soulless franchise with no tradition.

Before realising their hypocracy today. I had previous had the stance of let them do what they want.
But now that I realise it in all its glory. I say good job AFL and CFC. Hold them accountable.

Soooo much this short memories down at Port, now they want collaboration, fu** off

Exactly. They proved right from the start that they cannot be trusted. They are only ever interested in what benefits them and don’t care about the common good. Ironic that it’s Eddie who is opposing them, because that’s him to a tee - he and Koch deserve each other.

The answer is No, Port - to everything

Port are so big on tradition that they want to wear the guernsey of the SANFL team, the “real” Port - you know, the one they’ve recently dropped the Magpie from 🙄

Oh yeah, it’s about tradition, not marketing.

I’ve been watching footy in this state for 50+ years. You ain’t anywhere near the real Port.

I don't actually care, and it's clear the AFL is intimidated by Collingwood, but for a club who changed it's inaugural Premiership guernsey because a 13 year old drew it as part of a marketing ploy to now sh*t themselves over "the meaning of a guernsey" strikes me as a tad disingenuous.

If you had a hard day at work and Port's been crucified in the media, this is the thread to come home to.

Take your shoes off, put your slippers on and pour yourself a chardonnay and sit back and enjoy the lols on this thread.

Well there are two answers

1) Port are monumentally stupid and entered into a contract that only hurts them

2) Port benefitted at the time the contract was signed and now are trying to have their cake and eat it too

Pick one

👏🏻👍🏼
Cue the “why can’t we have both?” meme.
👍🏼👏🏻🤣
So Port sign contracts and now want to go against them heard this one plenty of times before
🤣👍🏼
I'd be fine with both.
Well
That’s sorted then I guess - you know - if YOURE fine with it
Lol

👍🏼🤣
Came in here all puffed up and ready to deliver that killer retort and only missed by 10 years. Unlucky.

Since when has the Port Magpie guernsey got anything to do with the AFL

And as for the line that the Showdown in a heritage game ..... Koch is a gigantic flog

Adelaide Crows have never played Port Magpies .... EVER
