Yes infamously it was a former Crow that landed in some trouble over this. First goal scorer.

Bookies now have much reduced odds for this event.

Bock was ~$150 with some books to kick the first goal. He had knowledge before the game he would play forward and told friends/family.

Rest is history.

It was $100. Know someone who had 10 bucks on it.

I’m calling BS why would they need to
There have been cricket, soccer and other sportsmen making way more than afl footballers who have done deals with bookies.

Of course they don't need to, unless they have an illicit debt trap of some form, but the deals can be made attractive.

"Fast" Eddy...

My cousin has worked for well known Adelaide corporate bookie Curly Seal for 20 years or so and I know all about fast Eddy.

This is big big news. Hayson is as crooked as they come.

Well just earlier this week I was accused of having a vivid imagination and watching too many movies by a couple of the resident numbskulls here for suggesting that players buying drugs leave themselves open to being compromised, and organised crime seeking to influence results for betting purposes.

Some people have very little idea of how organised crime works, and how people end up in very dire straights.

Not sure if you're serious?

Just because players make plenty doesn't mean that they don't get up to the occasional mischief. And once that's known by certain people you are in their pocket. That could be:

Placing bets themselves against AFL rules;
People collecting a debt for a family member;
Buying or using illicit drugs;
Infidelity (which can be set up)

And tons more. There's plenty of people that will help you with a problem, but rest assured they will always call in a favour...

One that happened real world that I know of was army blokes getting a surprisingly hot "girlfriend", then being presented a month or so later with an invoice for service that they could not possibly pay. They could make it go away if they procured some equipment - weapons and night vision equipment were popular.

Organised crime is not just movies.

I also got seen talking to a hooker on Hansen Rd , did she get any of my money?

Yep, cat fishing doesn't just happen online, although it has made it way, way more prevalent

Lol, that can be your secret. The point is that organised criminals target people who will be of use to them. That's not just football players, it's people like police officers.
Criminals look to compromise people and when they have something on them, they'll use it.
That's not fantasy, that's reality.
And to think that they are not seeking to influence the AFL when millions is bet every year is incredibly naive. They are into every other sport.

One aspect of this could be photos of big bowls of blow being released if you don't "cooperate"

Loved that podcast

You have to wonder if Sydney goes into lockdown due to Covid, if there is another Test played at Adelaide Oval?

No, MCG have already put their hand up and said they are happy to hold the Test. As the Test players are already in Melbourne they would just stay on.

In addition, the crowd capacity is larger and guaranteed - the MCG would have no issues selling out 30k per day.

How are they going to get a pitch ready in 7 days?

So what?

Its not a fait accompli.

While population is definitely an issue, consumption is the bigger issue. People in the West consume many times more resources than people in 3rd world and developing countries. From memory (and I could be wrong on these figures), roughly 5-10% of the world's population uses 80% of the world's resources. Populations in many western countries are now contracting, yet their resource usage continues to increase.

As for your comments about SA's cleared land... What you say may well be true for land in the southern 1/3 of the state - basically everything south of the Goyder Line. However, the largest area of the state, in the far north, remains largely uncleared. Most of this is either sheep/cattle stations, aboriginal land, or national parks. A very high percentage of lands in this area is still covered in native vegetation.

He did mention 'arable'. If we could farm it, we largely cleared it.

You drove around to get free ice cream when the cones were only 30c? Damn. I thought I was a tightass but that's a whole other level.

Back in the day I had a mate who when needing to swing by an ATM would want me to detour to his bank to save him the fee. No value for my time and cost per km of running a motor vehicle. Apparently that's free.
