First thing I'd do if I ever got drafted would be to wipe out all my social media accounts or at least set them all to private.
And the last thing you do before being drafted is to nominate the clubs you don't want to go to.

Yep, cat fishing doesn't just happen online, although it has made it way, way more prevalent

I think I’m more surprised people think this shit doesn’t happen

COLL $1.8M loss .....SYD $6.4M Loss

That's a huge differential .....given all clubs suffered similar downturns in AFL distribution, memberships, game receipts, I'd love to know the factor behind such a differential ??

Question; Did Clubs that hosted games during Covid (Adelaide Oval / Gabba), keep the ground receipts / sponsorship benefits ...or did the AFL implement some equalization program ?

Pies drop maybe similar, just off a higher standard.

That's a fair effort considering total league losses were reported at sub $100m. Boxing well above their weight there.
I'd be pretty sure that reported $100M loss excludes individual club losses .....most haven't reported their results yet

I thought it was reported as an industry wide revenue hit of less than $100m. Underlying costs were reduced, so the nett loss figures shouldn't amount to any more than that figure.

Just found it, talking nett results of less than $100m across the industry. So that's all clubs and AFL combined. Cats a mere $500k. That'd be a bonza result for half the league in a normal year.

No, just AFL house losses ....IIRC that figure of $100M was reported a few weeks ago, Clubs are not that quick with their end of year reporting

Clubs monthly accounts would be pretty reliable and easily accessible by AFL. Half way through November they'd have very accurate figures for 11 months and a fair idea of what the 12th looks like.

True. A well prepared pitch is not a prerequisite for a Melbourne test.
They nearly lost their test match due to accruing points for substandard pitches...

God that would have been funny

Its unAustralian!
Imagine that no AFL GF and no Boxing Day test in the one year.
Not because of Covid but because they’re shit at pitches.

if he did that, he‘d have to kill you...

spill the beans tinman

😉
Oh no biggy, I've worked in law enforcement for years (not police) and seen some pretty sad stories which aren't really for a footy forum. I've also seen employees end up in a downward spiral and with very sad consequences. It's going off topic, the point is that if people are in a position where they can be useful to criminals they will be targeted.
This happens in policing, and many other occupations. It's been shown in many other sports that professional sportsmen and women, and umpires are useful.
Most people don't think of this stuff, and fair enough because of whatever they do in their life they never need to. Some people might think that outlaw motorcycle gangs are just a bunch of guys who get up to mischief and share a common interest in motorcycles.
I'll keep it football related, and I have absolutely no evidence that several WCE players were involved in fixing results, but their heavy involvement with OMCG's and criminal elements certainly haven't ended happily for them.

No, MCG have already put their hand up and said they are happy to hold the Test. As the Test players are already in Melbourne they would just stay on.

In addition, the crowd capacity is larger and guaranteed - the MCG would have no issues selling out 30k per day.
So if Mcg gets the 2 tests in the one year they'll miss out on the test match next year and Scg will get 2 tests the next year to make up for it next year? It's only fair similar to the Afl.

Sounds a pretty heavy handed approach for a breach of Covid Quarantine .....how many others breaching Quarantine are put into isolation cells ...solitary confinement

He was issued a move-on notice by officers in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Northbridge entertainment precinct, which led to the 20-year-old being charged over the alleged quarantine breach.
After a magistrate refused his bail application on Sunday, Stack was transferred from the Perth Watchhouse to Hakea Prison, where – under the prison's policy – he is required to restart his 14 days quarantine in an isolated cell.

During a brief hearing in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, Stack's matter was discussed in his absence, with the duty lawyer revealing Hakea Prison does not allow people in custody for COVID-related breaches to leave their cell to appear via video link.

Magistrate Jennifer Hawkins adjourned the matter until January 6, "given Mr Stack is unable to speak".
Outside court, his manager, Paul Peos, said he was worried about Stack's short-term health while in custody.

"It's been very difficult to have communication and we're very disappointed but we'll continue to try and engage with him as best we can," he said.

"He's having a very difficult time but it's the consequences of the times we're in, these are the charges and this is what he has to do.

"He did not sound OK, he sounded very distressed and very upset."

Must have been a hell of a fight to get him a week in jail over Christmas.

I reckon it's pretty harsh.

He knew the rules and broke them not once, but multiple times. First time as part of the AFL hub, and now multiple times in this one incident.

If he doesn't think the rules apply to him, he can cop it sweet

Does sound like he can't handle his drink terribly well. Seems to end up in fights a bit.

2 weeks in jail ....next Court Hearing Jan 6th ...only Covid related

If only there was some way of giving evidence remotely. Possibly with some form Star Trek-like hand-held communicator.

Ahh, the future.
