International borders should be open by then 🤣🤣🤣

The winner is...Bris-a-bane

South East Queensland already has quite a bit of infrastructure in place for sporting events. I’d say they’d probably build a new swimming centre, and they’d need to work out whether QE2 or the Gabba would be the athletics stadium.

If anyone can pull it off it’ll be Brisbane

End of the day it's a moronic rule change.

I'll be shocked if it's still in existence come May.
I don't understand why people are crapping on so much about this.

The person on the mark stands still until play on is called. It allows the player with possession to swing around and move the game on quicker.

It's a small change and actually could achieve some good.

It's a rule designed to solve an issue which doesn't exist
The issue is a slow congested game. There's no magic bullet to fix that. Having people on the mark not move sideways but actually stay in the mark could be one thing that helps.

I'm happy to wait and see with this one. The umpires need to be hot on calling play on as soon as the player with the ball steps off the line.

I think it's a good thing to stop players on the mark coming right around to try and cut off more dangerous options.

It's easy for players to adapt to it. You wait until they kick or you hear play on. Umpires just have to be switched on when calling play on.
There will only be a couple of times a 50 is called, and it will just be a brain fade. Standing on the mark instead of moving side to side is a pretty easy change to make.

They have $4m on their books as a Federal Grant to help redevelop Alberton.

Have held it for at least four years.

They can't raise the funds to fully fund the project.

Wasn't that targeted for an indigenous leadership centre? I don't think they can fund the operations of it.

Moving on the mark should be a 15 metre penalty, just like the old days

50 metre penalties are too severe to the point it discourages umpires from paying it

who else remembers Jim Stynes running over the mark in the 1987 prelim, leading to a Gary buckenara shot from 35 out to win the game at the siren?

that was a 15 metre penalty and more than enough

making everything 50 metres just means things get called less and matter more when they do
I actually don't mind two levels of infraction - some others may be better served by 15 or 25 instead of 50.

They held the 2018 Commonwealth Games so that would have helped.

It is good to see the IOC amended their bidding process - stops the wastage of money by cities bidding and not getting them. In addition, the IOC delegates don’t need to go to each city and put their snouts in a trough.

Wuhan is like

What if someone 10m+ away is the closest player to the mark but doesn't realise and continues chasing his man?

Is that a 50m penalty?
Depends on how the umpire is feeling that day and who the opposition is.

Athletics would be QE2 or Metricon Stadium
Opening Ceremony would be Suncorp Stadium

2022 Winter olympics - Beijing National Stadium is the host for the opening and closing ceremonies, nothing else
2026 Winter olypmics - San Siro is the host for the opening ceremony and Verona Arena host of the closing ceremony, nothing else

Winter Olympics are a bit different.

Depends on how the umpire is feeling that day and who the opposition is.

Number of 50 m penalties in 2017
Melbourne 28
St Kilda 28
Brisbane 27
Essendon 25
Fremantle 25
Greater Western Sydney 25
Port Adelaide 24
Richmond 23
Adelaide 22
North Melbourne 22
Carlton 20
Sydney 19
Geelong 18
Western Bulldogs 18
Collingwood 16
Hawthorn 16
Gold Coast 15
West Coast 12

We were middle of the pack. Despite this, I'm absolutely convinced none of our 50's were justified and every other team's were.

Brad Crouch laced out Jack Higgins for the Saints first goal today. :)

I watched footy religiously 70s 80s 90s 2000s played... what the FECK are the AFL twats doing? There was never anything wrong with the game and this rule when the game was amazing to watch... poor young fans today... homogenised, factory made 'music' and the AFL rule changes...mmmm
I think that the centre square is a great rule introduced way back when.

Asides from that instead of letting coaches figure out ways to counter flooding, Pagan's paddock etc. the AFL have relied on rule changes. I honestly believe that the coaches would have figured this out.

You don't see the rule changes to soccer or basketball every year, or cricket (OK T20 aside but that's a different story).

I also don't mind the kick in rule. A player having to kick the ball to himself is pretty ridiculous, so that's one other that gets the tick.

This one is an absolute shocker. The problem with the whole game, which I played, and I love, is the rules. A player is tackled you have absolutely no way of knowing which way it will go. Play on, holding the ball, holding the man, in the back, too high, or ball up.

Perhaps the AFL could introduce a rule where when a player is tackled they bring out a wheel which is spun, just to add extra excitement to the game? It's close to becoming a f'ing circus already.

And are we expecting to see AFL in the Olympics by then? Awesome as we may be a chance to medal.

This is the non-Crows AFL discussion thread.

Just sayin'

Any mods out there? Anywhere?
