OK, this was very tough!!
Tried to make it realistic as possible with what teams are actually trying to do (Coll and WB getting points this year, STK wanting picks this year, GC happy to move out of this years draft a bit), but also had to add some players that might not move, like Hunt.

Tigers to go hard at this draft.

Trade Saints 2021 1st (Pick 9) for Tigers 2022 1st. They can then dream about bringing Ben King in all year.

If the idea was for us to trade both of next years for King, it wouldn’t work as we traded last years first.

If the idea was for us to trade both of next years for King, it wouldn’t work as we traded last years first.

Saints traded their 2020 1st for richmond’s, so still “used a first round pick” as far as the AFL’s “use 2 every 4 (rolling) years” policy is concerned.

Nevertheless, I believe St Kilda would prefer to trade (next year) a 2022 and 2023 first for Ben King, should a trade happen, rather than trade a 2021 first for a 2nd 2022 first. St Kilda need more midfield talent and would rather start development now by drafting one in 2021 than in 2023.

I’d forgot Matt Allison was technically a first rounder

Sorry man, From a Collingwood perspective, they get absolutely shafted in this scenario. Losing a great 25 year old who is still getting better for like picks 28/48/52 is really bad. Ned guy isn't around anymore.

Fair enough. I struggled to find anyone else to trade for you guys to get points for Daicos.

I wrote this on the Cerra thread..
How about this potential 4 club trade? (I know it’s complex but see summary at bottom). I think all clubs win here

1) Carlton and Geelong:
- Geelong receive Dow, lose R2 pick (tied to Geelong; currently pick 35)
- Carlton receive R2 pick (35); lose Dow

2) Geelong and Fremantle:
- Geelong lose Clark; receive R2 pick (tied to Fremantle; currently pick 27)
- Fremantle receive Clark; lose R2 pick (27)

3) Brisbane and Carlton
- Brisbane lose R1 pick (tied to Melb; currently pick 18); receive 2 x R2 picks (24- tied to Carlton and 35- originally from Geelong)
- Carlton lose 2 x R2 picks (24 and 35); gain R1 pick (18)

4) Finally, Carlton and Fremantle:
- Carlton receive Cerra and future R2 (tied to Fremantle); lose 2 x R1 picks (6- tied to Carlton, and 18- tied to Melb)
- Fremantle receive 2 x R1 picks (6 and 18); lose Cerra and future R2 (tied to Fremantle)

Summary;
- Fremantle ins: 6, 18, Clark
- Fremantle outs: 27, Cerra

- Carlton ins: Cerra, future R2 (Fre)
- Carlton outs: 6, 18 (24+35), Dow

- Geelong ins: 27, Dow
- Geelong outs: 35, Clark

- Brisbane ins: 24, 35
- Brisbane outs: 18
Can't work> Geelong would never accept. None of the players or trades net them a player over the 33yr old minimum.

Hawthorn Gain- Lynch, F2(Melb)
Out- Gunston
That trade is almost as bad as the Treloar one for the Pies. Collingwood give up a borderline AA halfback who can also play mid and a lot taller defensively and a decent ruck prospect, gain a forward who has shown bugger all potential and should be cheap as chips and a pick in the 30's then the 50's, that is a joke. Sorry.

No future picks or free agency compo nonsense, but something for everyone to complain about.

It's terrible. I love it.

Why?

You’re going to get some draft picks for points, for one or two players at the trade table.

I’d prefer the maximise the return on such a selection.
I don't understand your point.

Obviously they're going to trade their first round pick - are you suggesting they're better off doing it for something other than later picks?

I'm very sure we'd trade (as it currently stands) 14 for 26 and 28.
We're in a good position to trade down with Collingwood already doing so last year and no one else really needing to stockpile points.
Both Richmond and Geelong are currently loaded with second and third rounders but there will be a few picks moving around across the trade period.

I'd be tempted to orchestrate a 'non bid' trade down for Norths second rounder +, then look to split that pick further.

Yes.

Bulldogs only have to make sure they don’t have to go in to deficit on next year’s first round pick.

They also have a one or more nga or father son kids later in the draft. And senior list spots they can push in to the rookie draft if necessary.

So they trade their first round pick for a future first round pick, and late second or third round picks this year.

They also have a couple of players that might leave for second round picks.

So obtaining enough later picks to match a first round bid on Darcy should be possible.

It really doesn’t matter if they accrue a deficit on bids on their other kids in the third round, because that deficit only comes off their future third and fourth round pick/s.

So they then have two first round picks in next year’s draft, and maybe another later rated father son kid that they can take a deficit on in to the following year (2023 draft).

If you have a production line of late academy or father son kids, you can keep pushing deficits in to the future, while protecting first round picks.

This would be great, but we currently only have a first and fourth rounder this year so it will be hard to make up the points needed for Darcy without using our first unless we have a lot of players asking for trades. I would say we will likely trade in one or two experienced players also so may need to tap into our 2022 picks for that.

The issue with this is;

The dogs first round pick this year will be 15 (Assume the under dogs both lose this week) after the daicos bid.

Whos trading a future first + a 2nd/3rd rounder for pick 15? No one.

Definitely sounds very optimistic for Doggies, would be shocked if they dont just trade their first for points in the end

It happens, Collingwood wouldn't have thought they were giving up Pick 2 when they made the trade with us last year, things go wrong in footy. A Geelong/ West Coast may fancy themselves a chance to come out winners of a trade like that

That would be one balls to the wall trade by WC. They would need to win a flag to come close to breaking even on that trade.

E: Geelong I suppose might do it but I'm sure they'd prefer to do 2 of their 2nds this year instead
