I'm no fan of Weideman but he is only 24 so as 198cm tall forward, he may be worth a punt but not for either picks 1 or 20. Happy to give up pick 38.
Yep 49 games for 49 goals

Would rather have van rooyen or half a dozen of the other Tall forwards avaliable in the draft than Weidman or CCJ.
Unfortunately for us those talls won't be ready for a few years. Weideman is now. Unless you want to see Campbell partnering with larkey again or relying on Comben staying fit.

Weidemen won't cost more than a nickel either.

If we overpay for that muppet I’ll be furious

You always pay a little overs but our biggest draw would be starting lineup KPF in a transforming and dare I say exciting forward line of Larks, Cam , Steph/TT amongst others

picks wise- surely a 4th/5th string forward out of form couldn’t be more than a third rounder?

To be honest we could front load 2 years of a Buddy contract atm so it’s all a bit moot the money side isn’t it?

Interesting re: tarrant

If bulldogs miss out on the flag i could easily see them throwing tarrant a 1 year offer. I definitely don't think he's cooked like some do in here. The lure of potentially winning a flag might be appealing.

I certainly hope he doesn't of course given we'd get nothing and don't exactly have another young KPD pushing through to join Corr and McKay.

Would expect the Dogs would be keen on Taz and Goldy. They have an embarrassment of riches on their list. We should be open to anything.

They'll want a second rounder. We'll do well to escape paying with a third.

no need to be slagging off Sam, been nothing but a true gentleman since his delisting, now if you had of said "Sam Weideman was also rated as one of the best key position players in the draft.... enough said." I would not have cared less
Sam Weideman is still on an AFL list.

Regardless of who it is, my point is that do you want to take a guy who could potentially be another Durdin, based on the output so far for a downgrade from Pick 1?

For that to even be considered you would be asking for next years first as well.

Dunno about Weideman. If Comben gets a proper run at it then he shouldn't be getting a look in as a forward with us. That's before we even consider where Edwards fits in moving forward.

Further, key back is obviously a more pressing need and I don't think there is any appeal for him in coming to the 18th placed team to be tried in a new position nor should we be paying much for a bloke who has played 49 games as a forward only to try him as a defender.

Its all depth vs established players though.
Most teams have 6-8 talls in the forward/ruck mix and we currently have about 4.
If larkey got injured we'd be screwed but yeah lets not bring anyone in because comben or edwards may come good.
Xerri hasnt even locked in the 'ruck of the future' position yet either. Would be looking at another to compete with him for the top job in 2022.
Matt Flynn perhaps if we can get him cheap enough.

Comben is only 20 and could easily spend some time actually playing VFL and growing into himself etc. We have very little KPF depth and Comben is injury prone , with Edwards 2 years away.

I think a young kpf isn't a bad idea at all - we need options .

I don't think he has much of a choice in the matter. At this stage in his career he's almost run out of options. It could be this or playing out his days in the VFL.

The option also worked for Ted Richards. Failed forwards at bombers. Moved down back at Sydney...all Australian.

Weideman’s stats were pretty good last year when McDonald turned to shit and he was carrying the forward line.

Started the year on fire then got injured and then had no VFL football because of the lockdown.

Feel he’s a little underrated.

Remember when everyone turned their noses up at McDonald when he was offered around and they wanted to include him as part of the Brown deal?

Wideman has something to offer if the price is reasonable.

Weideman was pick #9 in the same draft as Josh Schache went #2, who i thought was a bust, but he surprised me, and actually played a role in the Bulldogs win over Port on Saturday night, maybe big men do take time :D

He needs to convince us he’s worthy not the other way around

You are completely missing the point. With a fully fit Comben Weid doesn't get a look in most likely i.e. he isn't best 22. So he's leaving the best team in the comp because he is depth to join the worst team in the comp to be depth? That doesn't make sense unless we pay overs financially - which we shouldn't be doing. Agree re Xerri but not sure what relevance it has in relation to Weideman who is key forward.

Also Goldy, Larkey, Comben, Edwards, Xerri and Walker if needed is 6 who can fwd/ruck, not 4

I’m not interested in chasing a player who has played 49 games and not shown anything, how is he magically going to develop into anything of value. Third rounder or walk in my opinion even that is generous.

I believe Brady is a hard arse so I dont think we will be doing anything silly.

I dont think we will pay him silly money but money isnt a big issue to me.

Melbourne want him so he probably stays anyhow.

Honestly I hope that plays out that way I don’t want us chasing to hard and giving up draft capital. There’s mr right and mr right now and SW is the latter

I dont know if Comben would be best 22 if fit.
Reckon he might need some more VFL time.
1 AFL game isnt exactly looking like a huge lock for me right now.
Pressure for spots as a tall forward at North is something we really havent had for the last 5-6 years.

I think Weideman could have been better this year but I also feel like Melbourne vindicated the Brown signing at stages. In a young forward line working with Larkey and Comben I think he's a great option for our third pick and beyond.

All depends on him wanting to leave but what value our club put on his abilities.

it’s a no brainer to me we need a good young KPF that is age or there about but ready to go.

see what happens
