Completely agree with this, if we lose Big O then we’re in trouble no matter what and I can’t see Fort helping us a great deal, having said that like it better than the Casboult move.Depends how good Lane is, which I have no idea. Fort can't get a decent run at Geelong whom don't have a great ruck division. Buyer beware I reckon. I guess he is more for a couple of games if Big O goes down. Don't think Fort will help if we lose Big O for the season. But then can't we cover the Big O for a couple of games with what we have?
Be very surprised if we cut Lane. Especially with Smith gone.

Definitely wouldn’t be getting rid of Lane, he’s a long term player that was brought in to compete with and takeover from Oscar in a few years, if we move him on now we’re back to needing a project ruck.

I don’t think either of those guys are the pure ruck that Lane is.Sounds like we're super keen on replacing Archie
Still got HSmith and Fullarton
Both Fullarton and Smith have been playing forward at VFL levelIf we have Fort, Lane, HSmith and Fullarton all playing reserves. How do we develop HSmith and Fullarton in the ruck?
Pretty sure most would have been extremely worried when Stef come in as the back up option for Luey.Completely agree with this, if we lose Big O then we’re in trouble no matter what and I can’t see Fort helping us a great deal, having said that like it better than the Casboult move.

Smith is being held back because he is still growing.HSmith and Fullarton where already on our list when we got Lane which maybe suggest they are not considered viable for the ruck.

Lane seems the better ruckman. Nice tap work too. Would just be surprised if we went out and drafted a young, developing ruckman and then delisted them 6 months later.
I would need to have a look back through the circumstances as I can’t remember how old Stef was when he came to us. Hickey definitely exceeded expectations, however he was always a number 1 ruck and was stuck behind Nic Nat, then got pushed out because Oscar Allen offered more as a forward ruck. I don’t think Fort is a pure ruck and with all the trouble Geelong have had with rucks he hasn’t been given much of a look in.Pretty sure most would have been extremely worried when Stef come in as the back up option for Luey.
But one game in, you knew those feelings were wrong and he never looked back.
Still feel as though he was a little hard done by but he hasn’t played many games in his year and very well could win a Premiership on the weekend.
Fort, if given the opportunity to be the sole Ruck (if Oscar went down), could well surprise? Think Hickey this year.
I think it is way to early to be making definitive statements on Smith.Smith is being held back because he is still growing.
He is going to be a unit when finished growing and will spend more time in the Ruck.
I agree which is why I’m hesitant to be adding another fringe ruck/forward.They don't have to be pure rucks but their likely position will be ruck/forward however they need to actually ruck to be considered that
If we don't develop the ruck/forwards then we're left with either part timers getting smashed in the ruck or playing 2 rucks who don't contribute enough as forwards
We were really hurt this year by not having developed Fullartons rucking more.

Fort is the type of replacement we need on our list for next yearWhen I have seen Fort play I have been fairly impressed and I honestly do not know why Geelong have not played him more. I would have him in my team every day of the week ahead of Stanley. I think he is better as a starting ruck but he can provide a contest up forward although I think this is not his strength. He would be a good safety valve though whilst the younger guys develop. Geelong are absolutely stacked with young ruck options over the next few years including Neale who I rate very highly and De Konig who I am expecting them to start playing more next year. I think Geelong are likely to be fine to trade him just to clear a list spot.
If we do not think Lane and Smith are ready to contribute next year then Fort makes a lot of sense to me.
We don’t have the list spots for a few.Fort is the type of replacement we need on our list for next year
I would doubt that Lane & Smith both 19 years old would be ready to step up next year. Maybe a game or two but unlikely
Not great to be a young ruck on a AFL list in the early years
I would think Lane goes if a pure ruck comes in
You never know Fagan may play Fort (if traded) as ruck and Oscar as forward ruck until Hippy gets back
Hopefully a few others we can afford get linked to the Lions
I know, out of all of the possibilities for a short term replacement for Oscar(if he's injured), I'd be going Archie by a mile.Sounds like we're super keen on replacing Archie
Still got HSmith and Fullarton
I realize that. Did say "linked to"We don’t have the list spots for a few.
Especially as he has come a long way in a very short time. Basically plucked from country footy into the WA colts and then the WAFL in a bit over a season.I will be shocked if Lane goes. Looked okay and makes no sense to bring him in and then cut him after doing basically what was expected of him.
Seeing the Lions are in a premiership window the Club may feel a pure ruck that's AFL ready is needed on our listI will be shocked if Lane goes. Looked okay and makes no sense to bring him in and then cut him after doing basically what was expected of him.
Smith has been playing mainly forward in the VFL and looked promising but is clearly a ruck prospect of some potential. Lane has come from a long way back (country WA footy) in a very short time. I can't see either being delisted.Seeing the Lions are in a premiership window the Club may feel a pure ruck that's AFL ready is needed on our list
Lets say Fort or another pure ruck comes to the Lions.
I don't see either of the two 19 year old's Lane & H Smith getting a run in seniors
Lane OOC, Smith still contracted
Who will we cut from the list with only a few spots available
Their are a few others OOC to choose from but Lane would be my choice under the circumstances
I don't think we can carry too many pure rucks on our list
