Pick 6 & perhaps a 2nd rounder sounds about right. Won't be two top 10 picks

I think that is objectively overs given his age, we did get 2 firsts for Beams but that involve Eddie overruling the Pies recruiting department to ok the deal. Will probably be some complicated swaps occurring but I'd take that.

Cripps moves like a 35 year old.

No interest in mitchell either, less dynamic and same type as Neale.

Parker probably unlikely but would add serious, serious grunt.
More versatility as well, bigger size, good above his head and can kick a goal. Now I’ve got my hopes up for Parker.

Us trading next year's first rounder to Doggies for their first rounder this year was basically missing a 2nd rounder to ensure they had enough points to get Darcy for free and be willing to do the trade. A 2nd rounder is just what we need.

I'm 99% certain they are just fishing for someone to spook the swans and he'll re-sign, but do hope we have a red hot crack. If not Parker, pay Jordan Dawson who would solve a serious deficiency on our list by either slotting in for Birch or onto the wing letting Clug go inside more often.

Beams had a bit of off-field baggage though and also wasn't a Brownlow medallist - I suppose the Pies did think they were in a premiership window when they brought him in though, hence paying a premium.

I think one top 10 pick is probably fair. Good chance we'll ask for 6, which will become 8 with the F/S bids anyway - and 8 feels about right for a 28 year old Brownlow medallist.

Put it this way - if Lachie Neale was on the market coming from another club and we could afford him, I'd trade pick 8 for him quite happily. That makes me think it's a reasonably fair trade.

I guess if you stop and think about it from Freo's POV that Lachie makes sense. I know Fyfe was out late in the season, but adding Fyfe and Lach back in the mids probably has them thinking they are a legit to 8 team. Hard to argue with a mid set up of Darcy, Fyfe, Lach, Brayshaw and Serong. That blond HBF also looks very Rich like, so I think they may think that it presents a great opportunity for them and sets off the loss of Cerra that they may just pay up or overs to get this done. I hope so lol

I don't think it makes that much sense for Freo if it involves giving up more than a single high pick. Midfield not their issue imo.

They're about to lose one of their best midfielders though.

What comes first, free agency signings or the trade period? Are we actually able to sign someone to a big deal before trading Lachie’s contract?

Free agency opens the week before trades.

I feel like we are undervaluing our position a bit in this thread. Lachie was a Bronlow medalist 12 months ago and just got 46 possessions in a final with a game not dependent on speed or agility meaning he has years ahead still, we should be looking at pick 6 plus more from Freo to make it happen, use recent elites trading while still contracted as a precedent. We have the position of power.

Does free agency stay open during trades?

Pretty sure it does but it's just highly unusual for a free agent to sign after that period.

Can you still sign a FA after the opening FA period closes?

If Neale is going then testing the waters with Parker seems a no brainer. Then if Swans re-sign Parker go in heavy for Dawson as a Rich/ Birchall replacement. They won't be able to keep both.

Titch is always waiting in the wings if you need a midfielder.

I suppose we can que the footy media by tomorrow saying we'll be bottom four next year and our premiership window will be shot. I know I was a little upset last night and quite glass half empty, but I see this as a massive opportunity to re-shape the midfield, I just don't see the footy media seeing it that way. Not that I care, but you can almost see it a mile off now, bombed out of the finals again, no Lachie, Joe is useless, Hippy gone for ages, Cam won't be any good and everything else.

I hope that happens. I thought we came into the season believing our own hype a bit too much and got trounced by Swans in Round 1. Took us a couple of weeks before we got going.

I'm unsure about trading out next years first if Lachie is going. It now might be a smarter idea to see how we fare next year without him, and then make the trade for a 2023 pick, so there's no risk of doing a Collingwood.

I wouldn't mind getting Connor Blakely from Freo in the Neale trade, because I think he's a decent player who might just need a change of scene. We already have a packed midfield and are tight for list spots, though.
