I would prefer Neale stay, however if he does request to go it's not a disaster. We as a club are now much more resilient and able to deal with blows like this. The club may look at this as an opportunity. It frees up maybe 900K of our salary cap and gives us many options.
Option one, stock up as much capital in trade picks from Freo as we can and use them in trade situations to build up capital for this and next years draft, for obvious reasons, Re: Ashcroft/Fletcher.
2. Look at bringing in another free agent such as Parker that will not eat into our capital. (Not my preference. Parker is 28 and wants a four year deal. That's a long term to lock up $$ on an ageing player)
3. Look at established replacement such as Hopper and use some of our draft picks to get him.
4. With the gathered booty hit the pre OOC and Pre-free agents such as Walsh and Oliver and hit hard to extract them this year with the threat of they will be available next year for much less.
5. Gather the capital use minimal (two) high end draft picks this year trade the rest in next years draft and do nothing just let the current list, without Neale develop organically.
6. Wait twelve months with the salary cap available and hit the very tempting Free Agent player list next year.
This may yet turn out to be a great opportunity for the club to take a breath and decide on re-loading for the future.
