I would prefer Neale stay, however if he does request to go it's not a disaster. We as a club are now much more resilient and able to deal with blows like this. The club may look at this as an opportunity. It frees up maybe 900K of our salary cap and gives us many options.

Option one, stock up as much capital in trade picks from Freo as we can and use them in trade situations to build up capital for this and next years draft, for obvious reasons, Re: Ashcroft/Fletcher.

2. Look at bringing in another free agent such as Parker that will not eat into our capital. (Not my preference. Parker is 28 and wants a four year deal. That's a long term to lock up $$ on an ageing player)

3. Look at established replacement such as Hopper and use some of our draft picks to get him.

4. With the gathered booty hit the pre OOC and Pre-free agents such as Walsh and Oliver and hit hard to extract them this year with the threat of they will be available next year for much less.

5. Gather the capital use minimal (two) high end draft picks this year trade the rest in next years draft and do nothing just let the current list, without Neale develop organically.

6. Wait twelve months with the salary cap available and hit the very tempting Free Agent player list next year.

This may yet turn out to be a great opportunity for the club to take a breath and decide on re-loading for the future.

I really don't mind if he goes as long as we get the right deal. Would happily take 6 and 8 for Neale. 6 and 8 as part of the deal is non-negotiable for me. We don't get it he stays and we push for a flag. No first rounders going the other way either. Just ridiculous. One of the best players in the comp with a few great years left and we're in a premiership window. Two years left on his deal they have to pay overs if they want him, simple. Different story if he's out of contract. Try to lure Dawson from Swans with future first and a nice pay rise. Luke Dunstun might be a handy short term stop gap who is a proven accumulator at AFL. Would suit our game style too. He was BOG against us this year and given the saints don't want him/ need him I don't think he would break the bank. Dev to play full time mid next year, no wing, with Rayner back too. Taking four first rounders to the draft and having Ashcroft boost future mid area next year is a no-brainer. Cya Lachie, thanks for the memories.
I think two top 10 picks is overs. On the other hand, we are in our window and, if the rumours are true, about to lose a Brownlow medalist. Stop gap players being offloaded by lower ranking clubs is not what we need while waiting for rookies we don't yet have on the list to develop. We need to aim higher.

Surely we get 6 and 8. Even if we have to trade something back to keep them happy. If 14 is involved then maybe future pick upgrade (exchange of second and thirds) to help us next year. Stop gap probably not the right word. I like Dunstun and think he could be starting 22 player. Would be a good money ball option. If the big knock on him is his kicking it won't be a big issue for us. As long as he runs both ways. Got a few mids who don't track runners already. Gabba is all about the territory game. Neale has great hands in close but not necessarily a brilliant kick.

Freo rate their chances in the next couple of years. If they lose Cerra as expected, there is no way they will trade both those picks for a guy that is three years older than when they got picks 6, 19 and change for him and pick 30.

Dont understand how Freo fans can expect Pick 6 "a starting point" for Cerra who honestly yeah good player but probably there 5th-10th best player. Neale proven, still has 3-4 years at an elite standard (If body holds up) So for me that pick 6 + pick 8 for Neale & either pick 18 or a future 2nd is the only way this gets done or else we go again next year with a fit Rayner, Hipwood mid year and hopefully Neale for every game and we go to the draft with 2 first rounders.

Sam Edmund "Swann, Fagan & Daly to sit down with Neale this afternoon, statement released shortly"

If Brisbane got picks 6 and 27 for Neale could we on trade 27 and our later picks for the Western Bulldogs first round pick giving Us 4 first round picks this draft
Clubs will be lining up to do deals with the Doggies.

How many will be offering near enough points, plus a future first round pick.

My guess is 1.
We'd want to be certain Ashcroft will nominate us before doing that deal.

Carlton
In: Cerra.
Out: Pick 6, SPS.

Fremantle
In: Neale, Pick 47, Future 1st.
Out: Cerra, Future 2nd.

Brisbane
Out: Neale, Pick 47, Future 1st.
In: Pick 6, SPS, Future 2nd.

Genuinely think Fages could get the best out of SPS. Lions fan growing up.

Freo should back themselves in to improve next year. Especially if they grab Neale.

this seems like a fair deal and I have long quietly thought SPS could become something for us.

I want to remind everyone and freo ,to put Lachie‘s worth into some type of perspective. He is a Brownlow Medallist, two times all Australian while at the Lions ,winner of the clubs best and fairest and a 46 possession game against Melbourne (who were the benchmark this year and may well win the Premiership this year.
non negotiable-6 , 8 and one of either Michael Frederick or Brandon Walker. Reason both have speed and lions desperately need speed.

In return we give Fremantle Neale and picks 49 and 51. To me it is a take it or leave it option. Anything other than that is treasonous.

To use a metaphor- lions have the keys to the house and freo will need to pay well above the reverse price to secure the house they want because this house Neale, has an absolutely awesome resume.and if freo are desperate to replace cerra they must pay overs. We owe nothing to Freo.

I don't mind it, although SPS can only really be considered steak knives at this point. Freo would be over the moon to turn Cerra into Neale and then some. Would think Neale is the more valuable player - despite the age differences.

Considered not doing the future pick swap with Freo for that reason.

Rumour and not confirmed:
Treloar wants to move to QLD to be with his wife & newborn. She plays for the Firebirds.

Not sure of his trade value or IF it’s true but I imagine a first round pick would be involved.

Wasn't that the same rumour last year that he might have moved to QLD for family reasons before staying in Victoria and signing with the Bulldogs?

One year too late.

Intriguing. Always seemed a bit odd last year. Any chance you'd give us Dunkley with him?

I'd probably do it though. Didn't you essentially get him for pick 14? Would think his value has dropped a fair bit from a bit of an underwhelming season - but in saying that, you were also paying below value price in a firesale.

Not from us. Suggest he tries the Suns.
