He's proven he can compete in a ruck contest and if you're legitimately suggesting he can't offer anything as a forward I'm gonna assume you haven't watched any Blues games in the last five years. Though I won't blame you if that;s the case.
I certainly haven't watched much, I will say if he's able to get the third defender after Daniher and McStay then he should have the advantage size-wise and should be dangerous.

Just go backwards through the thread
Don't want to do all the work for you even though said please
I've searched your posts in this thread and you haven't mentioned where Payne has rucked before at any level.

A 201 CM monster like Levi should theoretically run amok in our forward line with the defense focusing on Joe Dan Charlie Linc and probably Rayner

Being the third tall man in our forward line has to have a lot of appeal. Juicy role. If you can tackle too you're locked in.

They've already locked in Ottens.
They've heard about a young buck called Cameron Mooney that once played at NM that they're trying to get as a delisted free agent.

Also remember there are no guarantees Casboult even plays a game.....
Fullerton may have an incredible preseason, as might Lane, Ballenden or Smith. Andrews, Adams or Payne might show a bit as a forward in match simulation. The coaches might feel Joe plays better footy up the ground in the ruck, rather than the primary target up forward. We might even draft Amiss or JVR who jump out of the blocks and demand round one selection. Hippy might discover a Sharman on his end of season travels who gives him some herbs and Jo Jo healing juice and he makes a remarkable return for round one.
Now some of those scenarios are a bit far fetched, but do illustrate my point that recruiting Casboult does not mean he is locked and loaded as best 22.

If bringing in Casboult pushes Fullo to the next level massive win. Fullo needs time, we need a stop gap. Everyone wins.

If we got Levi then we'd have 3 forwards/ rucks who can't do either roll well. Tom Fullarton isn't a good ruck, not a great mark , not a natural forward.....YET. Joe, Can't ruck, not a great mark, not a great kick. Levi, can ruck, can play forward, ok kick.
Thing is all three are not up to the roll as ruck/forward.

IMHO we play Andrews at FF, Payne plays in defence and takes the second ruck. Job done.

It's a pretty attractive prospect imo
I don’t know if he’s married or has kids.

If he’s single, and can move in with another player and share rent, fair enough.

But if he’s got a family in tow, and has to rent a house, he’s going to have sfa to show for the year, except for maybe another $30k in his Super.

Has a wife and child. Moving to Queensland is an attractive prospect unless wifey is career tied. I tend to think if we want him he'll be a Lion next year.

And if it's an issue, he'll decline our offer and we'll both move on with our lives. It's why I don't stress trying to guess what players are going to do in a scenario like this - from my pov he's either coming or he's not. We can discuss his fit or lack thereof, the wisdom of recruiting him, but there's no point making broad claims about whether or not he will come or not and why.

If he has a family they're not uprooting their life for a year up north. Levi comes up pockets the 120 K and comes back.

Who says it would be for a year? I want to come home but this s**tstain premier won't let me leave the state despite freedom of movement being a right granted by our half-assed constitution.

Could make a decent amount playing for a club like Port Melbourne even a well to do Amateur club in Melbourne without uprooting.

Not likely with that VFL team cap as $200k and AFL aligned clubs $100k.
