I am trying to think of cap space that could be freed up at the end of next year.
witho - 350k?
Mitch - 400k?
Zorko reduced contract - 200k?
Cey - 400k?
Ely smith maybe save 50k
Theoretically a bit going out.
so how much is earmarked for improvers?
If it’s true we didn’t do an across the board cut like others, we shouldn’t need to increase pay by as much as others to make sure players stay.
So maybe room for one established player next year?
That said i think there is enough improvement within the group. Add in two first rounders this year plus one hopes Ashcroft and minimal retirements, and we seem well-placed to stay in the window for a while.

You can add Ely’s entire salary to that list.

I wish we'd gone for Weidemanns team mate Ben Brown instead of the Essendon fella. Just think, a guy who can take an overhead mark and can ruck and with the money we would have saved we could have Gunston or anyone as well.

We blew it!

Pretty creative way to work a dig at daniher into the conversation. A+ for effort

Did Daniher run over your dog? Might be time to stop trying to shoehorn in your criticism of Daniher into every thread.

He would know a one trick pony when he sees one.

nah forget the Essendon fella. How good would Brown have been and we'd be rolling in cash.
From what I understand, Brown almost cost Melbourne as much as Daniher costs us.
Might have saved 100-150k max
Not much more than what a rookie would cost.

What has Joe done to you to be so consistently negative about him...poor form!

I think Liam McBean would be a much better option for us. Taller, more mobile like Hippy,27 not 31,good mate of Joe's and proven accurate goal kicker having kicked 60 in the SANFL this year. He would only cost base plus match payments and I think would relish another chance on a list.

I remember I picked that guy for supercoach one year which ended badly from memory

Didn't get a real crack at it at Richmond just took a while to grow into his 202. Great budget option for us as a Hippy fill in and Ruck back up. Has played mostly forward in SANFL and leading goalkicker 3 years running. Allows time for our young guys to develop and went to school with Joe Daniher which suits our mates together strategy.

And another 'Mc' in our forward line

Is he playing for Glenelg? Mark Stone come from there, would have a good read on him you would think.

Daniher kicked 45 goals whilst playing back up ruck most of the year. He was also going at about 20 possesions a game when up the ground. He is ALSO coming off 4 years of not playing footy. He is a rare talent with 5+ years of his best footy ahead of him, he is just warming up.

He is a great acquisition and fun to watch.

Give it a rest.

Watched the Glenelg final on Saturday and I thought a particular player for the bays went ok up forward. looks like it was Liam McBean. They are playing again in the preliminary on Friday night. I watched it on 7Plus I think it was from Brisbane so should be able to watch this weeks preliminary as well that also will have Sam Skinner playing for South Adelaide.

Wonder (given our Hawthorn connections especially) whether we'd have any interest in Tim O'Brien to fill that role we're looking at Casboult for. Less useful in the ruck (though has played as the chop out at times), but can play either end of the ground and is four years younger. Similarly can take a good contested mark.

You'd hope we're considering him. A bit undersized but a great kick

Article for context

Speaking on Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight, Morris said it was a “difficult position” for the duo to be in, but not an unfamiliar one for players right around the league.

“Tim O’Brien, who’s a free agent, is in limbo. He’s being made to wait to see when he’s going to get a new deal.

Free agent as well.

Tim O'Brien sounds like a good option if we can afford him

Would he be willing to be a backup/reserve player at this stage of his career? I'm not sure that he is any more than that mind you, but when you've been in teh system this long surely you look for a team where you might have a chance to be first choice.

You'd think Hawthorn might be one of those sorts of teams, but maybe not from this report.
