Was he? And is he?

Heart & soul shinboner Robbie Tarrant has jumped ship. First cracks starting to show. Fabric of the club starting to unravel ;)
Yep, I take it back BB! Glad to see the back of him! Hopefully he doesn't drive superstar Polec out of the club also [emoji6]

Noble leaving us is a disaster. What is going on at North is fantastic, they are getting the right people and players into the system. Norths performance was greatly improved with him at the helm. There will more improvement in 2022 with him there. Very active. It looks as though we are going to sit on our backsides, watch and hardly do anything. Cannot see us improving in 2022 by having a reactive approach to obtain quality players. Most will say we have the players but Rayner and Co have not played for a season - are they going to be good?. Is Hipwood going to come back any good? - there are many question marks over a lot of players mentioned that are needed for us to improve. One or Two might improve greatly but alot won't. We need some good player injection to go the next step. We are not winning in finals!
North are at where we were 4 years ago. You might need to reflect and have a look at the changes our club made player wise over that time. We are at totally different places.

"Top 4 team doesn't trade in star! FAIL! Literally wooden spoon team brings in new players! WIN! HOW CAN THE TOP 4 TEAM SURVIVE?!?!?"

I think we'll be fine.

Comparing North to us probably is not a great comparison. North are trying to build their core so they can get off the bottom of the ladder. We have our core in place and are trying to get into a Grand Final. Whether our core is good enough time will tell. Noble to his credit knows how to get a team off the bottom of ladder.

So, couple of so called football journalists are having a chin wag in gibberish about the trade period and discuss how this year's is boring as batshit. No big names discussed, so how do we create some controversy and get some click bait happening? Hang on, let's get Neale's name out there again.

Sam McClure is the least credible journo working in football. He has been found out and exposed many times that he makes up stories and plain lies about it. How that bloke keeps his job is another story. Anyhow back to watching grass grow in my back yard.

This is classic Fox Sports clickbait. More than half their articles are based on a tweet/insta post/soundbite and subsequent tweet/insta post/soundbite reaction to initial tweet/insta post/soundbite. Anyone thinking this is an exaggeration just has to scroll through that site and count the number of headlines with quotes in them.

Nothing new in that. What's sad is that I gave that prick Rupert some money just having to click to read it. Perhaps in future we could post the relevant quotes.

Just an each way bet by the bored journos. Keep throwing stuff against the wall and bound to get something right.

There you go, I'm a trade pundit too !!

I don’t mind Kane Cornes usually but saying “watch this space, that’s the deal we need to happen” re Neale is all a bit desperate in a time where journos are generally seen as untrustworthy trigger happy speculators.
Why does it “need” to happen? For you and your slimy operator mates? If there’s no trade news then there’s no trade news.

He isn't slow but doesn't have anywhere near the tank that Lyons or Neale have. Spends a lot of his time TOG with his hands on his head taking in big gasps of air.
Yep, agree with all that.

Still not the point I was making to the OP.

Short answer no. But when your disposal is worse then the 2 you mentioned. Kinda leaves a question mark over him.

I actually like mathison for his bullishness unfortunately I think if we are to improve next year he won't be in the team or on the cusp. He will be surpassed.
I agree.

I didn’t understand the re-signing either.

My view is, currently Robertson and Matho are 1a and 1b as our two best reserve mids to come in should any of our inside mids go down with injury.

Minimum wage depth midfielder. What's there not to understand?

And is a core energy provider of the group and a selfless attitude which Fages Mentioned after his signing.

Is he on minimum wage? I assume he's not on a big salary but maybe it's a bit more generous?

Look like many fans i spend way too much time worry about numbers 38-45 on our list during the off season. He has played some decent games, having him on the list is hardly going to be a disaster. But if it's Mathieson versus Joyce, who has more of a chance of becoming a best 22? Maybe Joyce as he might improve. Mathieson won't.

2 years seemed odd as nobody else wants him so why not just go year to year contracts? On the flip side, Mathieson seems very popular with the group. I think you can get some loyalty if you show some. So again given we have a list of 44, not the end of the world.

I do really hope he is not a regular sub though. He really only has one main position (inside mid) and can only really replace Lyons or Neale. Neale did have an injury hit year but has been extremely durable otherwise, and played through injury in matches. Lyons I don't think has ever been subbed off. Two of the games Mathieson was subbed in for that are strong in my memory were St Kilda and Melbourne. What was notable was that we looked flat once the injuries happened (McStay and Hipwood) and he really did give us nothing. It's not his job to save the match obviously, but a bit of a spark would have helped.

Dev Roberston is a better option as he is just as good inside mid but a better option in the forward line or wing.

Lester is perfect as he can go forward or back. Not terrible as an inside mid if we need him in there for a couple of centre bounces.

Ah Chee obviously excellent for versatility if not in best 22 (I think he is).

Prior also very versatile.

And if Mitch Robinson is not a lock for best 22 (i think there is an argument even for giving him the odd break and having him at maximum mad Mitch levels when he plays) he would be a perfect sub. Can play a few positions and can you imagine how much pent up energy he would come on with?

I know he is low-possession but I even think Tom Berry tends to come on with a lot of energy.

In short, no more Matho as sub please!

Matho seems like a great bloke and good contributor to the club culture however I agree with the points you made.

Joyce looks more likely to provide a spark to me.

Likewise Lester was a surprise when he went forward in the Dogs game . Showed he has some football smarts and maybe making him into a backman was not the best option for the team. He could be used in spurts elsewhere . Not that you would him permanent elsewhere. In the Matho category except he can create opportunities occasionally.

I can guarantee that anyone on here who says they know for certain are almost definitely lying. I think when he re-signed for two years, most of us assumed he traded off a higher salary for more security. I also doubt he's on the actual minimum, but I can't see how he'd be on anything above the average for example.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Neale traded this trade period.

That is not based on anything other than my own gut. Games within games…

If so, I certainly hope it isn’t being driven by the Lions because that would make it harder to get true value.

I doubt it would be. IMO all the announcements coming out after Neale sat down with the club would've been primarily to quieten down the media noise about it which was rather nasty and vitriolic towards the couple from quite a few sectors.

So from that regard I personally take anything said publicly with a grain of salt. Unless you were a fly on the wall in the meeting you'd have no idea.

Nothing changes really, if he really wants to head back now rather than in two years then we'll try to facilitate a fair trade given he has two years to run on a contract. If not then he'll stay & be a consummate professional I'm sure.

Tbh if Neale goes now it's club driven not Lachie driven and would be on the back of an offer of serious overs by Freo.

Agree 100%. Could be a good thing!

Bring in a free agent for free as a replacement, or even mitchell (who will be a late first round pick) bank two first round picks including at least one top ten pick (6) and fix the speed issues in the middle.

Personally I’m not against it.

I'd rather Neale at the club, but happy to back the club in.

Can’t possible be serious.

I'd make that trade.

As far as opposition trade scenarios, I don't think we can accuse brutus76 of being unreasonable here.

14+18+50 for 11+2022R1. That's 2 late first rounders and a 3rd rounder for a mid-first rounder and a likely mid-first rounder. Certainly not ripping us off...

I think the criticism is more likely coming from people suggesting that we don't need 2022 first rounders. That's only somewhat correct. There's nothing wrong with us holding 2022 first rounders. We may trade them down a bit for points before the 2022 draft, but they're still currency, and we have this draft and next trade period to cash in the currency for something else we want at the time.

I'll be slapping $100 immediately on Essendon to win the 2022 flag if this happens.

Purchased a house in Queensland for his parents and collects old cars. Out where he brought the house land blocks are large so I guess thats where the cars are going. I a fan of Math the block, even since he got in a dust up in his first practice match for the Lions when Rocky tried to find out what he was about. Not the most talented footballer but I go to war with him any way. Yep his is a bit hypo but you need one of those around the team. I'm glad we kept him, he is a good fill in and wont get de-motivated being that.
