Gonna throw 24 year old Frankston Dolphin Mitch Cox up in lights here with another brilliant, clear best on ground match last night.

30 possessions (19k, 11hb) to go with 4.2 last night in a rout against Port Melbourne t add to his dominant 29 & 5 game against the Bullants upon the resumption of the VFL season.

At 190cm, 81kg, he’s right in the hitting zone for someone to use his traits. At 24, he could come in and play games early. Certainly one to watch at SkyBus Stadium

I'm really keen to find out about guys that could potentially come in and help our midfield out.
What are his strengths and weaknesses mate?

Be interesting to see how Sam Collins from Tassie and Chargers goes on debut for Collingwood tomorrow
game on Channel 7

Charlie Dean the only one invited to the draft combine. Depending on who gets Gibcus, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to GC or GWS somewhere in the second or third round. Maybe St. Kilda

Wouldn't be surprised to see Fergus Greene or Vincent Aducci rookie listed by Hawthorn depending on how the trade period works out.

Are players allowed to be drafted from local levels or do they have to be aligned with state based competitions like VFL, Wafl and Sanfl.

Local is allowed but rare. Think Abbott was the last one

Am I right in saying that the under 18s hopefuls have to be linked to state based under age competition and can't be plucked from nowhere.
Nope. If you're 18 or over you can register for the draft

Matt Rendell said Collingwood were keen on Tim English as an 18 year old but couldn't draft him as he had only played school footy and not WAFL colts.

Pretty sure they are.
If they’re not recognised by the AFL they don’t count anyway. 😂😂😂 the link literally says the rule.

(A) been previously registered with the AFL; or
(B) been registered continuously from the 1st day of June immediately preceding the National Draft Selection Meeting and has played at least one game in the season immediately preceding the National Draft Selection Meeting in the State league competition conducted by the WAFC or SANFL; or
(C) been registered continuously from or prior to the 1st day of June immediately preceding the National Draft Selection Meeting with any recognised club or school competition in Victoria (including without limitation the VFL, VAFA, VCFL and VMFL), Tasmania, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland or the Australian Capital Territory; or
(D) been a bona fide resident for the continuous period of 3 years preceding the National Draft Selection Meeting, in a country other than Australia.

It’s interesting that the only recognised competitions in WA and SA are the state level ones. The rest of the country can be a club or school comp as long as it’s recognised
Presumably a defensive clause written in by those leagues to retain state-level primacy and control of development.

Ferg was probably unlucky to have been delisted by us. We ended up taking Bedendo in the ND who is pretty much Ferg with less development. I hope he gets another chance, good fella
