Unless Hayes or Busslinger are absolutely best available… Not sure I’d want to use a pick 10 on a KPD that’s not really an area of need…

We can’t play 3x KPDs, Weitering and Young are our main KPDs for the next 7+ years, IMO we only need another depth KPD…

Use pick 10 on the best available mid or forward, where we need class…

Busslinger can play third tall, medium defender, key defender, and CHF IMO. He's super talented, you take him regardless of our defensive situation.

End of next year, I doubt we have Newman, Plowman, or Durdin. Year after that, Williams, Saad, and Docherty will be 30.

Marchbank and McGovern are still question marks for getting an entire season out of too. I'd be happy for us to trade out Newman and Plowman, then take Busslinger.

With the latest Bluemour I'm doing to infer that we're going to try and reach for Humphrey or Busslinger. Talk of trading up or out of this draft makes me think we won't be after one of the run of the mill top 15 mid types and those 2 are the only unique players in that range. Sheezel will likely go top 4 which would be impossible to trade up to from 11... So I'm tipping if we can't get either we'll trade back and load up for next year.

Busslinger and Humphrey expected to go from about 7-10 at this stage. Will be interested to see how it goes, I have a lot of questions over Humphrey but his upside is undeniably enormous.

So about 3 perhaps even 4 seasons left in them.

;):p

Still believe Hotton is a strong contender for our 1st pick
What do you make of Forty3's rumour in regards to moving up or trading out Arrow? My two bobs worth is above but as you'd know I'd be a happy man with Hollands and Cowan. Not as big on Humphrey as others but won't deny if we got his kicking right he's a complete freak talent

We don't know how things are going to go with Docherty and Williams given their histories. Saad is one who I am wondering how he will perform once his pace starts to drop off.

But we've got Boyd, maybe we'll get lucky with Byrne, and we've got the ability to start drafting over the next 3 years if needed. Busslinger would supplant Durdin by end of next year if required.

If we drafted Gibcus last draft, he would have played most of the year this year, history shows we will struggle for defensive cover next year, if we draft a key back, they will get their chance.

Actually not a fan of any of those 3 with where they are likely to go

Trading up, could only think it would be with Port, 8 + a future 2nd for 10 & 28. The 2nd rounder they get for Amon, will be used on Rioli, so they may want an extra 2nd this year

Trading out will be harder to determine, unless Lions want more points. Our 1st for 33 + a future 1st. Still gives us 2 2nd rounders, but 2 1sts next year

Mmm I wouldn't have thought Port would look past Philippou if he's there at their pick. Definitely an interesting one to think about. Haven't really got any indications from the club on what we're looking at either

Wouldn’t imagine Port would do that deal and wouldn’t imagine we’d do the Brisbane deal…

Could work with Geelong if they are to pick up Bowes and 7 as the rumours suspect. 7+36 for 10+28. Gives them currency for trading in Bruhn with 28 and a stab at a young KPP like Jefferson at 10.

We take 7, 36, Jones compo and 64 to the draft.

I am not completely sold on Hollands kicking skills, not sure pick 10 is where he should be rated.
If I remember correctly - the one knock on Sammy Walsh in his draft year was his kicking. His highlights showed a lot of balls falling short of the target. But at afl level I would say his kicking is quite good and his other attributes that he showed at juniors are what makes him so good.

I think Hollands will be a ripper from what I have seen.

Not sure why Geelong would do that deal after all the cap they’d spend to get pick 7 & 25…

Pick 10 & 28 for pick 7 more likely, then we have gone away from our list management goals…

More likely we could trade back, say Richmond pick 12 & 19 for pick 10 & 28 & Dow, if GWS want a top 10 pick…

Sam Walsh's dedication to self-improvement is not necessarily going to be shared by every draftee.

Walsh is about as ferocious a competitor as they come

Going by 43's rumour, that seems unlikely too, nor do I think it is equitable for GWS

A
IMO if Busslinger is still on the board at our pick we simply must take him.
If not the it gets interesting.
Agreed.

Thereafter, I'd love Keeler too but there are many who would be a nice fit and after watching the Country v Metro game the lads who were meant to be the stand outs didn't stand out much, looks a pretty even field (after that Reid fella - wow).

Any VFL watchers out there?

Thoughts on Ethan Phillips from Port Melb as a mature-age defender?

23yo, 197cm, intercept marking machine. Avgd almost 20 touches and 10 marks a match this year. Just won the VFL best young player award.

I have only seen highlights, but looks to do his best work loose and intercepting. Not sure about speed on lead and one-on-one. Maybe needs a couple of pre-seasons in the gym?

Looks like he could provide cheap cover for Weiters and Young and in case Marchbank's body does not hold up.

In general, I think mature-age defenders on rookie/min wages is one of the best value plays out there.

Thanks mate! some clown at work told me this evening i can upload mass videos and edit titles! hahahahahaha so now they are all up but last 30! so enjoy the staggered content in the morning mate

That clip of you and your mate celebrating Cripps brownlow win was absolutely glorious !!!

Anyone else agree with me that we should pick up a ruckman with one of our picks either in the National or Rookie Drafts .?

Feel like we need another one, I like SOS being able to pinch there in some situations, but it's not really a viable long term solution

Also coming around to the idea someone mentioned on Trade Radio about trying to make TDK a defender like his brother.
