I obviously don't follow the Vic pool as closely as you guys, but out of interest if a club does draft Ryan can she go on the inactive list immediately and then the club signs a free agent after the draft?

I would think that would be how it would work, although there might be a stipulation that injury replacements have to be signed after a certain date in July.

Did she get injured again? She was playing for the Southern Saints recently.

Oh yeah, I wasn't having a go at you ☮️. Just pissed at the AFL "system", I didn't mean it was you being disrespectful, sorry.

Do they think we should be happy with moving our pick to 28 by calling it "first round"? That's like saying you won the lotto but have to share it with a million other people. In reality it's the same as 5th division. AFL, don't p*ss on my leg and tell me pick 28 is considered "first round". I'm glad they're not doing my tax return.

Ha I didn't even realise the extra "first round" pick was 28

It's a shambles - honestly reckon it feels like the last 4 clubs get a better shot at building a squad than the last two sets of expansions

My mistake, it was Charlotte Ryan for the Southern Saints apologies Vacuous . So Charley Ryan blew her ACL at the Metro game? I thought it was just an ankle.
Nah, I understand. I got really excited when I saw the name on the Saints team sheet a few weeks ago. I know my C Ryans though. Just don't ask me about Drew Ryan.

It was a bit of a weird injury. Vukic cannoned into her back with Ryan's right leg planted and, presumably, did the damage when she put her weight onto her left leg awkwardly as a result of the contact. It was hard to tell on camera since it wasn't that close to the camera. I was also hopeful she rolled an ankle rather than anything more serious.

I thought Sydney may have signed Senna Gulden sister of Errol of Swans. Moved to SANFLW South Adelaide and appeared in Team of round a couple of times and played Winter series between 2 x Sydney v 2 x GWS Academy matches.

Hoping Gold Coast entice Alex Ballard from Sturt to head north to join brother.

Ouch. Well that sucks. The last thing we need is talented players missing altogether. Will there even be enough talent to fill Round 1 of the draft?

I'd still be happy for the Saints to draft Ryan in the first round, especially after being knocked back a couple of picks.

I'd be curious what the RMC crew thinks of the depth in this draft. I start to run out of NAB League names around the 20-25 mark, but I don't watch everybody (I have a strict no Gippsland rule, which I only rarely violate).

There should be enough for the first round at least, but existing clubs are going to have to dig for diamonds later in this draft. That could mean more NAB Leaguers than usual get drafted or potentially more VFLW players. I'll be surprised if we don't see a delisted player or two re-drafted. Melbourne's comment on Chaplin was interesting, but I may be reading too much into that.

I thought Chaplin was unnecessary. She's young, and has shown good signs in the past. I imagine like myself you have a mock draft moving the pieces around, trying to see were St Kilda fits. Honestly I think Sofia Hurley would be perfect for you guys, and she's deffinately around your range unless Hawthorn want to snatch her up earlier. I don't think St Kilda can afford to wait for Ryan considering their current circumstance.

Lastly, I approve of you Gippsland rule.

Is it just me or are Adelaide screwed in this draft?

The AFL have taken all the power away from Adelaide and given it to Port. Here's a scenario: Looking at the draft combine, Ports' likely academy signings are Keeley Kusterman, Sachi Syme, and Lana Schwerdt (If they can sign three). Now Power has the first five draft picks from the SA pool and U18 All Australians Hannah Ewings, Sarah Goodwin, and Amelie Borg are signed. Chuck in Ella Boag and Jemma Ellis and that's Round 1. Lastly, the Power trip ends with their open age signings. Kiera Mueller and Ella Little can now be taken and signed before the draft, and then there was no talent left on the SA draft combine for Adelaide.

Something tells me they'll be able to cry into their three premiership cups....

But more seriously, there's more talent than just the top-age talent. They can't sign unlimited players, and even pre-listing there would be a limit, so Adelaide will still get a crack at topping up serious talent. After all, the Crows have only lost three players, albeit one who is the best of the AFLW era, but that was always a formality they had planned for.

I agree 100% that the Crows would take keeping the core of their (3 times) premiership side and current young talent plus one poor draft hand over being raided heavily and getting an even split of season 7 draftees.

My theory is Essendon takes two mids; Hawthorn takes two mids and two taller players. It wouldn't surprised me, though, if it ends up being: Ham; one of Baskaran, Fleming or Clarke (with Essendon taking the other two); plus Goldsworthy and Eardley. I'd be a little surprised if Hawthorn ended up taking all midfield types given how their list build has gone so far. That leaves Hurley to the Saints, which may just be me trying to manifest that result into existence, since that's what I've been hoping for for a while.

I'm totally fine with waiting a year for Ryan, if that's the path the recruiters decide to go. I'm biased, though, having watched a ton of Dandenong while she's been there. Ultimately, what's important is getting the player that's going to be best the longest, not the fastest. I'm not sure that anyone else offers the combination of size, versatility, skill and athleticism that Ryan does (other than Ham, who's not an option). I'll be envious of whichever team winds up selecting her on draft night.

There is a limit like you said. But if we are looking at the previous rules for expansion on top of their first five round draft picks, it's hard to see Adelaide catching a break? Because open age signings cap at 10 (I believe) and they've only signed four players so far. Previously, clubs were allowed to sign three u18 players within their academy zones (Although I don't believe anybody signed more than two, but the option was there).

That being said, they have won three premierships, and lost only three players (two over 30). They haven't lost much aside from two good players heading towards the end of their careers.

Everybody has Ham going to Hawks. Clarke would be the next best bet for Essendon, I think the Hawks will look at Goldsworthy next (A pationate Hawks fan apparently). Both are decent sized mids that know how to hit the scoreboard. Then Essendon picks up Fleming and the Hawks take Baskaran and Eardley, possibly.

The more you look into the draft order (and inability for the top 13 picks to be traded), the reality sets in that players who might not be drafted in other draft pools, will get taken ahead of the country's best player. I can't wait for the day when it's a full national draft (which will obviously only come with full-time wages or heavily subsidised contracts for those relocating).

I don't think Kiera Mueller and Ella Little can be signed as over age signings as they were not in last years draft pool. Both have zoomed from nowhere this year. Little could be included in Port Academy as she is from WWT. Hoping that Duursma follows through and nominates SA pool to be with brother. Adelaide could try to trump Port with Schwerdt as F/D rather than Academy. Also Port are to trade with Gold Coast for Kate Surman Gold Coast would like Port's 5th pick at 34 to get in before Brisbane at pick 41.

Scherdt is an interesting one for F/D I was hoping Goodwin would be F/D, but I don't think there is any relation to Simon (Or am I wrong?). As for Brisbane and Gold Coast, they have their own zones so their draft positions don't really matter (Unless it's finally become an all Queensland zone). The only use those draft picks have is to trade on for players. And I imagine, Gold Coast are very happy with their academies coming through.

What was meant is that the pick 34 is traded from Port to Gold Coast for Kate Surman and Gold Coast would use it before Brisbane has their 1st pick at 41 and the bonus to the Crows is that there is one more talented player in the SA pool prior to the Crow's first pick.
