Agree with you , a future first rounder considering the range p16-18 won't access this years top 5 necessarily, however 2future first rounders begins to be interesting.

Not when they are both in the same range! Can you guarantee one is going to be a top 10 selection?

Its looking like the first 7 are close to set

Cadman

Ashcroft

Wardlaw, Sheezel

Tsatas/Phillipou

Humphrey

Tsatas/Phillipou
Pretty much. Some speculation that Gold Coast like Ginbey too but I think they go for Humphrey as you've posted

If the main knock on Phillipou is his confidence, he’ll be fine
Yep, he came out and said no matter where I go, I'll be a one club player if possible

Wants to be the star like Kobie, MJ and Ronaldo

I would love that confidence at Essendon

That's a little overblown, we still drafted Rayner and Wilmot from Melbourne and Robertson and Starcevich from Perth.

Perhaps the lesson is, when the team is struggling, target country players, and when they've built a strong culture, then you can take almost anyone. Premiership contention has a magical way of getting players to stick around.

I can see why West Coast, GWS and Gold Coast wouldn't want someone like Tsatas who is a perceived flight risk, as none of them have strong cultures just at the moment. They are better off taking country kids or home state talent.
It’s not really overblown. We certainly changed the type of kids we drafted, looking at both on field make up, and more importantly off field make up.

WA kids are told through their age group camps/teams, from U15 onwards, that most of them will be drafted interstate.

Potential flight risk is still very much factored in to our draft strategy.

Hardly over blown. It was well known to be Brisbanes drafting stratey.

Yes, there are 4 players that didn't come from Vic country, but these guys were obviously seen to have little go home factor.

Nothing wrong with it, it's clearly been a very good strategy from the club.

Just stating that it's a pretty silly comment from a Lions fan to suggest Suns should just back their system and go best available if a player has a an issue with moving interstate.

Can’t argue with this.

Apparently GCS interest in Ginbey has waned.

From all reports it will be Humphries, apparently have interviewed him close to 10 times

Good lord, I feel like that's a bit ridiculous if true.
Well i think if rumors are true, we are up to 6 interviews for Phillipou

I don't dispute that. What I'm saying is the Vic Country factor specifically is overblown.

It's a wonder that there are multiple of them requesting trades to WA every offseason, then.

That you're saying this shows why it was overblown, because there are numerous exceptions to the supposed concentration on Vic Country players.

Yes, there are 4 players that didn't come from Vic country
Others too, like Noah Answerth, but I limited myself to high picks.

but these guys were obviously seen to have little go home factor.
Cam Rayner was being discussed here in 2017 as a potential flight risk. The thing is, you can't be 100% sure who is a flight risk and who isn't. Josh Schache was definitely not thought of as a flight risk at the time, and ended up being one. Point is that it's not as simple as just drafting a whole heap of country boys.

Well that's for the Suns to decide based on feeling. A lot of people would have put money on Ben King leaving for Victoria at the first opportunity, but he re-signed. Some players can be talked around.

Or they could have traded it for a player, or they could have traded it for a huge amount of 2023 points.

You take the best asset offered - if the Crows had offered the F2, the GCS would have taken it.

They cant trade it for players if the players dont want to come and/or they dont have the cap room.
