Hello everyone, I've just finished up with the BigFooty Phantom Draft picking for you lot. Figured I'd throw a quick summary in here to get some feedback.

Pick 10. Bailey Humphrey | 186cm 84kg
Powerful forward-midfielder in the mold of De Goey, his set shots need quite a bit of work but as a mid he provides so much power and agility he was hard to pass up. Just a high-upside prospect with the power and speed to break games open off his own boot.

Pick 31. Max Gruzewski | 193cm 84kg
Versatile and athletic swingman, he plays as a third tall in both defence and the forward line. Good kick for goal as well, with plenty of potential to develop in the VFL for a season or two as he finds out where his best position is.

Pick 35. Harry Lemmey | 199cm 94kg
Another high-upside forward, Lemmey has all the tools to dominate and just hasn't put it all together this year. A great kick up the ground and marking force deep, he plays well in a structured and consistent forward system. Battled illness and injury throughout the year, after a season in a professional program he has every chance to recapture the form that made him a potential number 1 pick early in the year.

Pick 45. James Van Es | 197cm 94kg
Athletic tall backman who plays strong as a lockdown fullback but with the speed and vertical leap to be a dominant force as an interceptor. Another pick with a lot of talent and upside, JVE needs to translate his speed and spring into a weapon on the rebound. As low-risk and high-reward as you can get this late in the draft.


I'm not 100% up to date with the Saints list needs, but I figured some developable x-factor in KPPs would help stabilize the spine around a strong midfield with some developing talent looking to rotate through in Clark, Gresham, Owens, and Windhager.

I’m so nervous about our pick. Mckenzie & Tsatas the safe natural midfield options. Humphrey looks like a bonafide match winner. Phillipou could be Bont or he could be Daniel Healy.

The main guys I hope we avoid are Ginbey (man-child dominating smaller bodies) & Clark (vanilla stat padder). Of course I’ll be totally wrong & those two will be the best from the draft. Also don’t particular want a tall with our first pick.

at 7. We need to think about what we could be giving up. Use our seconds / future second to push up if the draft falls to our advantage. Even if next years reportedly strong draft doesn’t quite measure up to 2018 , it still would have to be better than this years draft where the touted top 10 , is sprinkled with kids with kicking issues.

Got to give to get, and if we're all in, we're ALL IN.

We trade our future first for a top 12 pick. Most non-Saints fans are putting us down for a 2023 ladder finish of 14-16 so most will jump at that. Even if we do end up giving up a little too much, we won't get absolutely reamed unless we burn the pick.

After a year of playing under Ross, all our key players should improve, thereby improving their market value. At the same time, there is bound to be at least one player who either finds Ross too much, or a player who Ross feels won't take the team forward and we'll be looking to trade a decent player or players out after the next season, leaving us open to trading back into the first round for the '23 draft.

I'd do it personally for the right player in this draft.

Seems like pick 10 is a great spot to be (Get ferked all those who say finishing mid table doesn’t get you elite talent). Please just take Cam Mac with it.

But If our recruiters think they’ll have to pick between Cmac and one of Tsatis, Humphrey or Phillipou, I’d be okay with them trading next years 1st for Carlton’s pick 11. Would need to be done pre draft I reckon as too much premium is required to do it in the moment.

Carlton can point to this so called super draft and say they’re loaded up for next year and the media will call them heroes and predict a bottom 4 stk finish. Cue blues fans pandemonium. Meanwhile we take a CMac/Tsatis double into year 1 with RTB and get to work.

Billings was the best kick in the draft but has no drive, Mccartin was beautiful set shot but didn’t know how to touch it, Hunter Clark

Give me Steele, Owens, Windhager. Not renowned for their skillset but the determination is well above average.

Even if we were guaranteed pick 11 in 2023 , pick 11 in 2022 is worth more, its getting a player in faster with a years development.

I'm banking on the promise of the 'Super Draft' to account for any sweetener being required and assuming we'll be around 9-12 again.

It‘s more of the same he gets a lot of the ball which is a skill in itself, he has speed and endurance. His skills are ordinary at best, he’s hardly turning on the magic and dazzling us with his kicking. There’s something about this kid that doesn’t thrill me and clearly I’m not alone or he wouldn’t be falling. Anyway we’ll find out soon enough and like every draft crop it will take years before we know who actually nailed it. Who would have thought after Rowell‘s first 4 games and his tac cup form that Anderson would have gone past him by quite some margin.

I don't know about that. It really is a superdraft. The attraction is obvious and we'll wear a lot of initial ridicule for being the only suckers to trade out of it.

But that's why trading back into it for a disgruntled/less integral of our players is an integral part of the plan.

And who knows, there may be a young player on our books with huge upside end external value who despite our best efforts to retain him, is adamant on returning home and there simply is nothing left to do except get decent value for him.

Ive raised this before but can someone PLEASE explain to me how the * Brisbane get Fletcher and Ashcroft when according to the table in the sticky they are nearly 800 point short of matching a bid JUST for Ashcroft and some 1800 points short (or the equivalent of pick 5) of both?

Like, seriously what is the ******* point of the bid match system if you can just roll into a top 5 picks worth of deficit to match them?

Also Ashcrofts younger brother is 2 drafts away i believe (and supposedly as good if not better) will they be allowed to match for him if they still have residual "debt" from this years trade and draft period?

We might have the same problem with James, Will & Teddy

Should the Bombers overlook Tsatas, it remains unclear how far he could slide down the order. Non-Victorian clubs are wary of drafting Tsatas, meaning it’s unlikely Gold Coast and West Coast would take him with their respective first picks. And with speculation the Hawks and Cats are wedded to other players, recruiters believe St Kilda would be a chance to pounce on Tsatas late in the top 10.

Happy for you to have that opinion on him, but if the argument is that he some how makes it to ten than it must mean hes no good, then wouldn't it be the same for any draftee not taken by then?

Id be disappointed if we don't pick Tsatas over Mckenzie if it came down to it. there's a reason why one was touted as a no1 pick before his ankle injury.
Ill also be surprised if he isn't picked up well before our pick
