I think North would win the trade as they'd almost certainly be able to draft a few decent players from 5 attempts

However for us I think it would be borderline as to which haul is better
If you changed that question to we get JHF and North get our 1st this year and 1st next year would you do the deal?

I would caution be very careful as unless things change, we are in line to get at least one top end mid in this years draft and if its a Philipou or Tsatsas or maybe even a Wardlaw, are they themselves much less a player than JHF? then you factor in a probable top 5 pick next year...you would want to be very sure JHF projects as the next Dangerfield / Bontompelli type player

Bob Neil writes a great post about list management

Nekminnitt Ben Davis named in squad

Been thinking about JHF and I don't care if he sooks about playing in a bad side.

I don't care if he sooks about playing reserves.

It means he wants to win.

I would do this year and next year 1st

Wow, for all the incessant whinging that goes on in these threads, and this issue gets NO traction.

I am well and truly pissed off we didn't get this bloke.
Massive oversight ... only 21 and has the attributes we lack as a big bodied mid with penetrating kick who can go forward and hit the scoreboard .

Should have taken him and decided on Turner if he was still there ... and by the sounds of it he would have been .

We continue to Amber the bed .

Did you his father Wayne was a pretty handy footballer as junior too, Captained the St Patrick's College first Vlll in the late 70's...

Let's not get too carried away just yet though.

If he turns out a good player and Turner not, what will you say about Hamish's decision? Or will it be hindsight is a wonderful thing?

Turner had 1 VERY good game against us, but a younger Carmichael was consistently good in the SANFL, and that same consistency has transferred to VFL.

Watch him play this weekend, I have no doubt we've royally fu(ked this one up.

Younger, higher ceiling, big bodied like we've been looking for and can score goals.

Hamish wouldn't have had a lot to do with Tuirner or Carmichael, that would be down to our SANFL scouts. Hamish is Victoria based. I don't know who our SANFL head scout is, Steve McCrystal used to do our VFL mature age scouting. But hey bring Hamish into everything as you do if it makes you feel good.

He is the head recruiter and if he isnt across the ONE selection we made in the mid season draft then I would be shocked. Then he takes recommendations but still has the final say.

That has to be the weakest defence of Hamish I have seen.

Mutineer what are you actually disagreeing about, that the head recruiter isnt responsible for who we draft or its not the weakest excuse? If its the latter, do you have another example?

Oh I agree, given we were the only club to talk to Turner compared to the multiple clubs who spoke to Carmichael says it all. In the end though we could have had both.

That's the ridiculous part of it all, we could have selected Carmichael first and then got Turner, no one was picking Turner.

He's the head recruiter. Criticism is warranted here.

I would have thought our head recruiter would have had a pretty big say in the 1 player we selected in the mid season draft. Surely he is watching every SANFL game via video and can have some input into who we select?

Carmichael's stats vs Richmond VFL last week 25 Disposals 18 kicks 7 handballs 4 tackles 5 marks 0.3 taken from the VFL app (3rd VFL game)

Turner's stats vs Glenelg SANFL 24 Disposals 12 Kicks 12 Handballs 1 mark 1 tacle 3 clearances 5 i50's 2 r50's 1.0. (1st SANFL game for the Crows)

You know and I know Nicks and Godden would have had major input in Turner coming to us....both were at the game when he played so well against us.

These are not players Hamish would have been tracking closely the last couple of years.

Turner's 89% disposal efficiency at SANFL in 2022, pretty decent DE for a midfielder and likely a reason why we were attracted to him.?

Jack Carroll but you'd likely need more than a swap for Sholl.

Liam Stocker no doubt would be of interest and Paddy Dow perhaps though no doubt the Boards resident "spud" marker would be upset re Dow if we had interest.

Dow IMO would be great value if it was a level swap.
Agree I’d go for Dow for Sholl every day of the week

Probably looking at pick 50 or a 3rd round pick upgrade
I’d say we would be wanting to stockpile a pick to help match Michaelanny bid

Hard to say where is comes at this point

Solid SA carnival and a league debut likely bid in 30-50 region

How he finishes the carnival and Norwood season will tell us more

That and a list weakness for mids that can play also play small forward

I agree that Nick's and Godden most likely would have been pushing for us to select him, but Hamish would have still had to have reviewed hours of footage of each of our main targets as he would be the one making the final call on who we decided to select.

I am not writing off Turner, he hasn't even played a game for us yet. I really hope he turns out to be a good pivk. I am more annoyed with the fact that we could have had both Carmichael and Turner. Just seems like a big fail not to use the first pick on someone else and then use the 2nd pick on Turner.
