And you think we should put our head in the net for Grundy?
His contract length is a joke more than the money 💰💰
No, I thought you were talking about how easy it was to get players.
If someone wants Grundy they’ll get him easier than if he wasn’t contracted.

We complain that ROB is on an overinflated contract and isn't performing, and then propose to bring in a 28 year old ruckman that is on an even more inflated contract and is performing even worse?

I wouldn't go near Grundy with a 40 foot pole.

We all do but that isn't the point. By his contract year he had shown he couldn't shake a tag and then had a foot injury that made him even slower. The guy is a fan favourite and he got his when it came to contract time but it is more than fair to say he has not delivered on the contract he sought from us. That is on us, we bent and accepted his terms for a good many reasons but for him to suggest he wants to go on in 2024 (even next year) scares me because he won't want to drop from 900k to 250k, he will still want to be there about as the highest paid player and he just isn't that player anymore.

It was half way through 2017 when he showed he couldn’t beat a tag.

What about David Mundy?

12 months playing and then on to Assistant Coach.

We lack a big bodied mid. He's still playing great footy. He seems like he has a mountain of IQ and is very well respected. We've now seen Keays on the weekend go forward and play brilliantly and we know Laird can play other positions besides midfield if need be, which allows us to still give enough time to Berry, Soligo, Schoenberg and if the likes of Pedlar and Taylor are good enough.

I think Mundy could complement what we already have and are developing in the midfield.

If we get Phillipou in it gives 12 months for him to see how someone like Mundy goes about it and Mundy can take him under his wing.

What's an example of that occuring in AFL history?

North tank again and they'll spend all year listening to people plan for them to be kicked out of the league.

Not sure another hopeless season makes sense for them - and not sure the legal challenge that would surround them re-derafting a player that doesn't want to be there would be worth it.

Re-drafting your own player would be a declaration of war against the AFLPA, and North just isn’t important enough to get support from the AFL.

They’ll be screwed like pinky tuscadero in the Malachi crunch

Absolute no.

All it would do would give us a brief sugar hit that maybe wins us an extra game at the expense of our long term development.

Grundy and Mundy teaming up in the centre square.

You are correct, but to say his 2017 season(as a whole) was rubbish is so wide of the mark that it's laughable.
He was runner-up in the Club Champion award.
He was in the top 10 players in the AFL in 5 categories, including 1st for tackles.
He was 2nd or 3rd in the club in a couple of other categories.
Were you thinking of another season perhaps?
Also, putting down a poster simply because you thought they got their facts wrong about a player's season, 6 years ago, is out of order.
The only thing more dangerous than ignorance is arrogance(A. Einstein said that - smart man, so I hear).

I don't think they need to 'tank' to win the spoon next year. Who are they going to push past? There might be a club drop off massively next year, but there's no doubt that Roos will remain bottom 3 and be up to their eyeballs in the spoon.

Hard to say this ....circumstances can change quickly ....Jackson goes home, Gawn has 2 years B4 he retires

A couple of players get poached on good $$$$ ....it can all change so quickly

As GWS are finding, giving LONG Contracts on big $$$ , can bite you in the arse .....giving Brayshaw a long Contract was madness

There’s always a but with fact adjacent types

He fell off a cliff from one of the best in the League in the first half of the season, into nothingness when opponents realised he couldn’t or wouldn’t work his way off the tag

Grundy is the last thing we need. I can’t believe people are seriously suggesting it when we’ve already got ROB’s contract to deal with.

How do people expect to re-sign:

Fog in 2024
Rachele in 2026
Thilthorpe in 2026
Berry in 2025

AND bring in free agents to add to our side as will likely be necessary, if we have the enormous dead weight of Grundy’s contract.

Indeed. There is a reason why Collingwood want out from under that contract

So I'm thinking they will want to see some immediate improved performance as well. It just might be that they are looking for players like Matt Crouch, or especially Doedee. If we are brave, we might be able to put together a trade for JHF that is more suitable for North than adding another pick.
There's not a snowflakes chance in hell, the Club would trade Doedee

Are you allowed to buy picks like that?
Is there a precedent?
If a Victorian club did it then AFL media would give them plaudits for being smart.

If we did it then AFL media would be up in arms wanting sanctions, and the league would react accordingly.

shout out to our brilliant tacticians who tried absolutely nothing and had the strength to keep plugging away with that strategy.

Spot On ! .....besides, Grundy is being linked to GWS .....we're not even in the conversation

Freo already did it and are being lauded for it.

Why make up shit about Vic bias when there’s already so much real ammunition to use.

If he goes there, they must be certain they are losing Taranto and Hopper to fit him in the cap.
That's the word .....lopping a $M off their salary cap

Hopper is being heavily courted by GEEL .....understandable, given Dangerfield has i year left ....body is in decay
