when Gawn was out a few weeks back Sam Weideman came into the AFL side and rucked..

maybe we’re worried that Himm is gonna go to Freo, Frampton to Pies and that Strawnie might also be offered something to go elsewhere for more AFL opportunities..

leaving us down a back up ruck, a back up KPF and a back up KPD..

and weideman can do all three..
Sam is the same player as his father Mark .....great marks, but not quite good enough for AFL

He's a one trick pony .....mark & kick man .....once the ball hits the ground, he's lost.

Does he work hard enough on repeat leads ? .....the fact he has so many games, where he's invisible, suggests not

Big, Big No, from me

Can he do any of them well?
Weideman, I cannot understand our interest (if true) .....he's under Contract anyway, MELB are looking for tall fwds .....and Brown is 30 YO next year

He's a depth player

Could be a swap of Himmelberg for Weidemann. I think we would only take him if we think he can play back.

That is an opinion cut from the same cloth that lead to us ******* Fogarty around for five years.

The dude is a CHF and has the potential to be generational one at that. It's just a case of sucking fat for a couple of years and let Rahilly work his magic.
Exactly .....for Thilthorpe to compete in the Ruck, he'll have to add more weight, thus impacting his mobility

Rucks are not as important with reduced ball-ups ......less, if the last touch rule comes in, as expected

A FWD line of Fogarty, and Thilthorpe, is a fantastic spine .....sure, let him relieve in the ruck ....sure give him a roaming licence to come up thru the wings to HB

Don't waste a matchwinner FWD as a Ruckman

Personally I don't think Weideman is worth much at all. So probably equivalent.
Right now he's a failed draft pick.
Yeah even though he's contracted, I can't see him being worth a lot at all

If all of Himmelberg, McAsey and Frampton leave, we'll probably chase Weideman

Michalanney is a slightly different type, but regardless - pretty weird that we keep naming Davis in the 23 if we plan on delisted him in a fortnight.

Not really. The sub role is a waste to put a Taylor or Newchurch etc. rather they get full games in the Sanfl

Davis perfect for the role - capable enough to fill a hole forward or back but not wasting development time for a younger player

Any other interesting news from the interview ? Hope he is enjoying Adelaide

He said he is keen to stay on and has settled into Adelaide really well. Got spoken to by 16 clubs prior to the draft and didn’t know he would be going to Adelaide but was excited to move interstate. Sloane and Keays have been great mentors - were the key bits I heard. Was working while it was on.

You’re absolutely right, Davis is the perfect sub.

Was thinking Sholl might’ve suited lately if he’s heading out the door, as the potential playing time shows suitors he’s still getting AFL minutes.

With recent talk of getting players traded in to Adelaide and the talk of whether we can afford these players has me thinking about how we may have managed our salary cap over the last couple of years.

Being the youngest team in the competition you would think that the last 2 years we have re-jigged and front ended a lot of contracts and therefore we have a lot of money to spend for the next couple of years.

With the list profile as it is you would find hard to imagine that we have hit the floor of the salary cap.

Maybe we can finally produce the elusive war chest!

This is essentially how the salary cap is designed to work.

Be shit > pay players less > front end contracts to meet floor > create room to spend money chasing high talent > become good > have lots of good players to pay big money to > lose some players to weaker teams

Equalisation!

Unfortunately a lot of clubs mess the system up by being poorly managed.

Decided to compare Weidemann against Easy, remarkably similar stats, I’d say Himmelberg holds a slight edge over their careers.

I do think we, as a board, underrate how useful EH is as a backup (obviously not a perfect player, but solid enough to fill in)

That said, if he leaves for Freo, Weideman would be fine to go after
