Gee, you make some outrageous statements sometimes
JHF and Rankine are different style players .....my preference is the "X" factor of Rankine, who creates opportunities from nothingSorry, should have included the words ‘should be’. I’m not saying he is, just he ought to be.
JHF comfortably a higher priority than Rankine.

... JhF is the closest thing to Danger since.. Danger.JHF and Rankine are different style players .....my preference is the "X" factor of Rankine, who creates opportunities from nothing
JHF, I'm in no way underrating at all ....but you can get similar players in most Drafts ..... "X" factor, is a term that's overused IMO .....they're are rare, Rankine has it
It's a bit like comparing Selwood & Dangerfield .....both great players ....but the "X" factor of Danger is what I'd always take ...a very rare combination of strength & speed

Port only have a better draft hand because they're not chasing Rankine. If we were only going for JHF we'd easily outbid themDo you really think the club doesn’t see JHF as a priority?
We put together an enormous offer to get him last year, in the middle of the Dawson negotiations.
The problem is Port have a better draft hand to make a deal, JHF reportedly prefers Port, and he’s in contract. My guess is that the club has spoken with JHF’s management and North and decided the likelihood of getting that deal done is pretty slim. It would be foolish of us to put all our eggs in the JHF basket instead of bringing in Rankine.
Well that was clever wasn't it.Port only have a better draft hand because they're not chasing Rankine. If we were only going for JHF we'd easily outbid them
AND ....Rankine would be watching & enjoying that we still have him as #1 priority .....rather than making his transfer more difficult & risky, to try and accomodate JHFIt would be foolish of us to put all our eggs in the JHF basket instead of bringing in Rankine.

That's what I have said since it was announced and shot down.Good strategy by them. Make the big play before we can get the job done. We end up caught sleeping

Interesting thought. If JHF's ceiling is a dangerfield and Rankine's ceiling is an Akermanis...which do you prioritise?... JhF is the closest thing to Danger since.. Danger.
Not sure how you could on one hand say Izak has X factor, JHF hasnt, and then say Danger has it and JHF doesn't.
Because I don't see the Dangerfield / JHF comparison ......I think too many of these comparisons are loose & more designed for supporters enjoyment .....Danger was a rare specimen... JhF is the closest thing to Danger since.. Danger.

I don't think we want to get rid of him though. If he wants a trade then the onus is on his management to find a team willing to take his entire salary, otherwise it's "sorry, but you're not going"Surely we’d be paying that if he was heading off.
Why would we chase Rankine after Drafting Rachelle .....if both were going to be small fwds .....that's a lot of Draft Capital in 2 yearsI think we need to improve what is very clearly the worst midfield in the comp. We’re going nowhere if we aren’t focusing on that. Laird needs to be our 3rd or 4th banana in there. Pedlar has the qualities that we lack but I’m not confident any of the other kids will push Laird down a peg. Rankine is a nice to have, not a must have.
That said, I’m definitely keen on Rankine as long as a near certain gun mid isn’t the opportunity cost.

He looked pretty gettable to me throughout the year.Caught sleeping? Not sure about that.
My read of the situation (this is all a guess) is the chance of JHF requesting a trade after a single year was pretty remote, he was going to see out his 2 year contract. The Clarkson developments are huge in this.
We decided to get Rankine in this year, retain our future first pick, front load Rankine's contract then have another real crack at JHF when he is out of contract.
The Power has effectively Bradbury'd their way into this position as soon as the Clarkson situation hit. It gave JHF some cover to leave and AFC were already committed to Rankine.
Hopefully he can kick better than clangerfield.... JhF is the closest thing to Danger since.. Danger.

Rankine a dead cert to play midfield, tear opposition mids a new one .....and free up teammates, not to mention, he'll be the best FWD 50 deliverer in our team
I don't see our midfield as poor ....it seems to be getting defined by the absense of a big bodied mid ......but did RICH win flags with a big bodied mid ??
Doubt his contract would sit well if it sounds like good $ (didn’t he confirm money was a big part of his decision) with no/minimal behavioral clausesIf Willie Rioli goes to the preseason draft and he's cited family reasons for SA, should we take him?
We should be making it clear we are interested.
Port have the Amon compensation pick which gives them a better draft hand, unless there’s someone really specific that North want who is likely to be there at 6, who won’t be there at 9, I don’t see North preferring a deal we could put up.Port only have a better draft hand because they're not chasing Rankine. If we were only going for JHF we'd easily outbid them
That's true ..... Endurance wasn't a strong attribute at U18 level ....however, he's had 4 pre-seasons to work on that, and this year, looked the fittest he's been .....allowing him to play higher up the ground a lotThat’s a hope, not a certainty. Need a big tank to be a modern a grade mid, that’s a lot of work, talent alone won’t do it.
SOUTH Australian excitement machine Izak Rankine has lit up day three of the AFL Draft Combine at Marvel Stadium.
The silky smooth forward is known for his eye-catching goals — and would’ve certainly stood out to those clubs watching on from the corporate boxes ahead of the draft on November 22.
The likely top five pick narrowly took out the agility test, recording a time of 8.039 seconds, while also placed in the top five in the 20m sprint and the standing vertical jump.
we might be using our PSD on rankine, dunkley etc - rioli no hopeIf Willie Rioli goes to the preseason draft and he's cited family reasons for SA, should we take him?
