I'd still give our second for Rankine. Get him infront of a crowd at AO and who knows. Some of his under18 state form was incredible. The man has talent.

Agreed, he'd get less attention from opposition behind Rachele, he'd come into a Darren Burgess program as well as having competition from McHenry, Rowe to get a game. I think escaping those slippery GC conditions will also go a long way, he wouldn't be the first player to become instantly better after leaving (Prestia, Lynch, Brodie, Lyons, Scrimshaw to name a few).

Can anyone actually think of any high-talent players who, in recent times, coasted at their first club for a good four years without putting up consistent AFL performance, then actually went to another level at their second club?

I’m struggling

Will Brodie and Jordan Clark look like first round picks again now they are playing well at Freo.

I wouldn’t say they ever ‘coasted’ on just talent, though. Brodie seems to be their version of Keays - finally found a role and situation where he can develop and flourish. Clark’s been building to this year as well, finally found consistent opportunity

Steven May never showed his current level at the Suns, was either injured or suspended most weeks.
