I'm surprised the club have done this, but glad they have. At least gives us some options.

Seedsman is a concern. I heard recently that he is really struggling. Still has headaches, still struggles with bright light. It is genuinely impacting his quality of life. Twice he has gone out to play golf with the boys only to have to pack up and leave a short time later. It's horrible and I really feel for him.

That sucks. Hopefully time eases the symptoms and the brain heals.
Think he needs to retire. Another knock and permanent damage just isn't worth it.

Just read that he has been living in Vic in recent weeks. Imagine at his age he and having lost a lot of fitness he won't be playing again. AS you mentioned though that is not important considering the impact it is having on his life. Crazy to think that's from a training drill 6 months ago. Hamill & Smith worry me in this regard, both have had multiple big hits to the head

I reckon Seedsman will retire at years end.

Sadly.

In terms of players we might look at, there are a few that I like the sound of (going by the reports not having seen them play).

I wonder if we have any interest in a KPD? There are a few available and it is clear that McAsey, Murray and Frampton aren't the answer. Do we try one here?

Jacob Bauer has some real promise, but a 191 cm forward isn't high on our list of priorities I'd guess.

Carmichael sounds interesting and still has scope for improvement, but is he likely to be better than what we already have?

Carrigan we have supposedly been interested in for a while. Speed, endurance, left footer with skill. Sounds perfect. Injury history a big concern though.

Culley at 193 cm and having proven he can play midfield is definitely of interest. Will be gone before our pick though you'd think.

Ramsden at 202 cm and with a good engine might be of interest. Could do worse than having another developing big.

Turner is an interesting one. 185cm mid who dominated against our guys this year. But at age 25, do we really need him? For what purpose? A quick gap fill?

Yeah, especially at 30 years old. Not much time left in the game at that age anyway, and it's not like we're in any danger of winning a flag in the next couple of years. The very limited potential rewards are not worth the risk to his health of playing on for another season or two.

Finally.. so Nicksy was taking shit in an interview a few weeks back..

And I really cant believe poor seed is still considering trying to continue his career.. its been 6 months and he’s still feeling the effects..

Thats game over you’d have to think unfortunately..

Not sure what they see in Turner to think he's worth drafting. Reminds me of another Patrick Wilson. Too good for SANFL, but nothing about his game or physical attributes that makes him stand out at AFL level.

Real sad about the Seed. Career best year and now can't even do minor things in life. He would've made a huge difference to our side this year IMO - his mix of speed, run and carry along with a booming kick is a game changer these days. He was an ELITE wingman, not just a good one and a big loss.

Carmichael and Culley will be gone, if not I don't think we'll read their names out fast enough.

Turner would be a "ready now" type but I just don't think he's necessary. Voss would be a better option.

That's my thinking. Even if he suddenly was free of symptoms, back to running and feeling great - why risk the potential impacts of another head knock? It would be crazy and we would be negligent to even let him try.

Not to mention the amount of conditioning required to get back to the level... Wonder if he is contracted for next year?

My thoughts exactly. I just don't see why Turner would be on our radar at all. He played well against us in one game. So??
What else does he offer that is so important? I'm not sure we really need his type of player for the future. Just seems such a weird choice.

Keen to hear your thoughts. If we use both picks, who would you (realistically) take?
Good decision by the Club. At least it gives us options, and it can't hurt.
It's a no brainer really. Both players aren't playing again this year, so moving them to inactive list doesn't impact on that. In the end it just gives us flexibility to make some selections if we want to.

From the addy...

INSIDE WORD

Adelaide is zeroing in on Glenelg midfielder Brett Turner in the AFL mid-season rookie draft.

Currently sidelined with a foot injury, Turner is understood to have met with the Crows but his selection could be determined by whether they take one or two picks in the June 1 draft.

One spot has become available following the season-ending knee injury to captain Rory Sloane while the club is yet to make a call on whether wingman Paul Seedsman, who is battling concussion symptoms, will play again this year.

Turner caught the eye of Adelaide’s recruiting department with a standout 38-disposal, four-goal, six-clearance display against their SANFL side in round three.
So he had a good game in Round 3 against us..

Has he played any other games like this?.. what other runs on the board has he got?..

Why do I get the feeling this club gets stars in their eyes when they get resoundly beaten by players or even an entire club and they then do all they can to emulate their conquerors.. as if they go “thats where we need to be”..

Ever since we were beaten in the 2017 GF by the tigers mosqito fleet of midfielders and midfield/small forwards.. have a look at how we have drafted our midfielders.. we’ve worked on building a mosquito fleet all around the 180cm mark!..

Now we have a player towel us up in ONE game at SANFL level and it sounds like our solution is “geez, maybe we need to grab him in the MSD!”.. like he must be good if he can beat us.. forgetting that we tore the Bays a new one in the first half before falling asleep completely in the third and having 10 goals kicked on us..

It screams of an organisation that struggles to think for itself..

The Turner one sounds more like we can't believe someone could be better than our players. You know, because we are sooooo good. If he can beat our guys, he must be incredible!

He's a good player, probably very good at SANFL level TBH, but it's also a case of "we'll pick him for the sake of it".

I'd go a developing ruck with the 2nd pick personally

This is why we need an AFL reserves side. Hurts the sanfl sides chances of winning a flag by taking them from their side, and into our side to play against them.
Surely we're not that narrow minded and focus purely on the bigger picture of improving our AFL team.

What benefit is there for the b's to win a flag?

They should be embarrassed to even put that trophy in the cabinet.

I don't think it's remotely about winning sanfl. But the reality is it's unfair to other sanfl teams to have their best players taken mid year and play against them.
It's good for the player, they get the shot they deserve, but it hurts the integrity of the competition.

I expect Culley, Derken and Ramsden likely gone before our pick. Possibly Carmichael too.

Carmichael - big bodied mid/forward that hits the scoreboard

Carrigan - athletic tall outside mid/wingman

Jamieson Ballantyne - skillful dual sided outside mid/wingman with speed, agility and great endurance.

Surely if we're taking Turner it would be with our 2nd pick as I can't see him being in great demand at 25 personally?
