I think Fish was a reach. Predicted at 6 likely because information got out he was pretty much locked in for us.2017 - Callum Twomey's 2017 Phantom Draft Fog picked to go at 4
2018 - Callum Twomey's 2018 Phantom Draft Jones predicted to go at 14
2019 - Cal Twomey's 2019 Phantom Draft: Top 30, your club's whispers Predicted to take Fish at 6. Worrell predicted to go 19 (28), Shoenberg 25 (24)
2020 - Cal Twomey's 2020 Phantom Draft: Top 30, late picks, your club's whispers Thilthorpe taken 2 predicted 2. Cook predicted 14 (25), Pedlar 24 (11)
These guys are all taken around the mark predicted so development would seem to be a bigger issue?
I tend to agree on, problem with that draft is. Say we identify we need a KPD that year from what I can tell it's only SDK or Fish. SDK has come on really well this year but that's only this year... Our development of Fish (swinging him back and forward) has been average. I think there are a multitude of factors involved with our current list shape, some to do with previous management (coach, fitness, football manger, CEO) some to do with bad list management (assume it probably falls to previous foobtall/list managers although on Reid too)I think Fish was a reach. Predicted at 6 likely because information got out he was pretty much locked in for us.
But otherwise yes development is a big issue.
Whether they were the right selections to use in the first round is another discussion.

You draft for talent, not for need, especially in the top end of the draft. If you're lucky you can get both, but look at how going need with Gallucci worked out.I tend to agree on, problem with that draft is. I am all for getting rid of Reid & Hamish IF we have reviewed what decisions were made were their fault
How many HBF, inside mids that can't use the ball and 3rd tall defenders do we need though? You draft for talent, not for need, especially in the top end of the draft. If you're lucky you can get both, but look at how going need with Gallucci worked out.
It doesn't matter if you duplicate it, you may need it later. We didn't "need" Tim English in 2017, 2 years later that story had changed. How many HBF, inside mids that can't use the ball and 3rd tall defenders do we need though?
Maybe the issue is not picking the best avaliable midfielders with our first round pick.2017 - Callum Twomey's 2017 Phantom Draft Fog picked to go at 4

It's the Suns
I thought Dylan Stephens was more of a reach at the timeI think Fish was a reach. Predicted at 6 likely because information got out he was pretty much locked in for us.
But otherwise yes development is a big issue.

I was floating a suggestion that development could be just as much / more of an issue than recruiting. You have decided to be judge jury & executioner. You are very fixated on us drafting the wrong players which is a pretty simplistic view. The above list shows some players we picked were predicted to go before & some were predicted to go after. The key thing with this is it was done at the time not years after with the ability to see how the players look years after being drafted.Fog predicted to go at pick 4 by Twomey who got it wrong and he slid all the way to 12 and us, why?
Jones, we were predicted to go Caldwell at 10, instead we went Jones. 4 picks earlier and made him a top 10 pick.
Fish, only club who showed any interest besides us was Fish. No mention if he slid would another club grab him.
2020, no issue with our picks but Pedlar at pick 11 needs to get fit and if he doesn't produce you'd have to question why we went so early.
But in a nutshell, all you have produced is one guys opinions on where they might go and in the examples you've provided, they don't support picking them when we did.
Ditts has aparently has also said it the Suns after Tex..Definitely not happening but I'll mention it anyway
*******
For two years he might.Ditts has aparently has also said it the Suns after Tex..
They can have him..
Straight swap for Luko and Rankine thanks!..
Cant see Tex turning his whole life upside down, with the young family he has, just to get another year of football in..
I reckon he will be at least 45 yo when we are next pushing for the flagI hope the crows trade McAdam. Best form of his career, but is 27 now.
Are we anywhere near pushing for a flag? No.
When we are he will likely be 31-32 and our "push" would result in needing to replace him if we make it that far.
Get value out of him whilst he's having this career year.
I think we need to work on getting as many of our youth together to peak at 26-27. It's what generally wins flags.I reckon he will be at least 45 yo when we are next pushing for the flag
It’s a hard one as we need some decent experienced players but you’re right , he may never be worth more at trade table than this year
Yep we have plenty that will peak then if they last on the list for long enoughI think we need to work on getting as many of our youth together to peak at 26-27. It's what generally wins flags.
I throw the term cargo-cult around a lot here. But this is almost the definition of it.I think we need to work on getting as many of our youth together to peak at 26-27. It's what generally wins flags.
Anything in the top 25 I'd say.Yep we have plenty that will peak then if they last on the list for long enough
I’d only trade McAdam if we got a deal too good to refuse and had a plan to get a certain player we like at the pick
What is a deal too good to refuse for McAdam is next question ?
Yep I’d have to do it for that tooAnything in the top 25 I'd say.

but then why did he sign a contract extension? - he could have bided his time and got out at the end of last yearI might be harsh, but McAsey didn't look interested from the moment he was drafted to us. As in, literally on draft night.
