If we're selecting players based on how good they are at SANFL instead of where we project them to get to at AFL level then we're as dumb as shit.

Its probably not fair to compare these lads current form/games given Turner has only just returned from a foot injury..

But none of this is what pisses most of us off..

Whats infuriating is that we couldve had both these players..

Carmichael with our first and turner with our second as no other team was even going to pick Turner.

Its yet another bewildering decision from this moronic club.. and if Carmichael turns out to be a bloody good player our supporters should rightly be *ing ropable.

I’m at the point where I actually expect these moronic decisions from this club. Less *ing ropable these days, more numb to it now.

Of course he would have watched footage and had input but the local scouts and likely Godden, Nick's and any other coaches that were in attendance at the Glenelg game where he performed so well would have had input.

What people are not factoring here is had we taken carmichael, there would be next to no chance he would get a game with the AFL side anyway. Heck we have Cook, Newchurch, Worral, Borlase, McAsey running around week after week in the SANFL and they can't get a gig and they have been here far longer.

They're the very definition of 'immediate', talent ID is about projection, if we've deliberately gone with bolstering our current SANFL team or adding yet another accumulator with limited hurt factor, then we need to gut the entire department. Why don't we just recruit the best handful of SANFL players each year?

I must be different to most on here, I actually hope Turner turns out OK and gets to add to our AFL midfield/forward rotations as he certainly has a point of difference to several on our current AFL midfield roster. But in keeping with this board most appear to want him to fail as some form of vindication just so they can get their jollies.

You've just verified you've never watched Turner play if you think he's an accumulator with limited hurt factor.

If we’re being honest, Turner could potentially fill a need at high half-forward. Seemingly knows where the goals are better than Murphy or Ned, has a bit more size to go with a good pressure game (won’t get shrugged off as easily as our current smalls), and wins a good amount of the ball

Sure, we should’ve considered selecting Turner with our 2nd pick given the rumoured lack of interest from other clubs, but let’s not write him off as an ‘accumulator with no hurt factor’

Any fair minded person would at least wait for a season or two before passing judgement on either player.

No I haven’t, but I dare say recruiters across the league have and none of them thought Turner worthy of interviewing.

Look I hope he makes it, but he’d want to, otherwise it will be another Hamish stuff up, you might not want to admit it but there’s been a few costly ones and when rebuilding we can’t afford it.

Actually no, that’s bullshit. We are sceptical given Hamish’s record and not one other club was interested in him.

You can back in Hamish all you want but you’re not objective when it comes to him, I can’t recall one criticism of him ever from you. Hell you’ve tried to palm off Turner onto Nicks and Godden so you mustn’t be overly confident.

Not many , if any , posters have said they hope he fails

Most are pointing out - quite rightly - the method the club took to get him

You have quite rightly pointed out we dont know the ins and outs of contract demands etc but on the surface it seems odd we went with Turner

Presumably we felt that we could only take one pick due to list numbers at the end of season, and the limited number of out of contract players.

We rated Turner higher than Carmichael. So we drafted him.
