No one wanted him last year for free
I wonder whether our contract was simply better than other clubs.

We could have already been offering 2 years at $600k thinking that was a lowball, but really other clubs were only offering 2 years at $350k

No I haven’t, but I dare say recruiters across the league have and none of them thought Turner worthy of interviewing.

Look I hope he makes it, but he’d want to, otherwise it will be another Hamish stuff up, you might not want to admit it but there’s been a few costly ones and when rebuilding we can’t afford it.
Were Greenwood, Keath stuff-ups .....what about Strauchan as a backup Ruck ?

Last year's MSD, Parnell ....is he a bust ?

What about Butts, Murray, and Gollants ? .....all Hamish picks

OK ...I've picked selectively the success's .....but likewise you've cherry picked players who "may" fail .....however as I've stated my position, players who are slower developer's, can't be classified as failed picks

When they're delisted ....then yep, they've been failed picks ....and IIRC you were banging the drum on Fogarty being a failed pick

Then, to draw some correlation, you have to measure our failure rate on picks versus other clubs .....no-one does that, as it doesn't suit the narrative

Actually no, that’s bullshit. We are sceptical given Hamish’s record and not one other club was interested in him.

You can back in Hamish all you want but you’re not objective when it comes to him, I can’t recall one criticism of him ever from you. Hell you’ve tried to palm off Turner onto Nicks and Godden so you mustn’t be overly confident.
Crouch was coming back from 12 months off with groins .....it would be understandable that clubs would be wary, at the contract price / length he would have been asking for

I reckon he would have been in Luke Dunstan territory. Few offers from teams, but no guarantees of playing time.

He knows Nicks is favourable to seniors, so why uproot your life for a bigger unknown?

He was potting the decision to rookie Brett Turner not Crouch..

What’s his success rate with first rounders?

Watched some VFL today JHF looking very much like a footballer, late in the 4th up to 29 disposals a goal 6 marks 2 tackles 7 clearances.
Good to hear, could easily have sulked and played shit.

How's Josh Carmichael looking for the Pies today, I see the Roos are in front looking at the scores?
More handballs than kicks, so most posters on here would write him off to start with.

6 and 8. 43% DE. 0 goals 2 behinds. Sounds like he got involved.

Looked a goer ....not what you'd call a polished mover, just hard at it ....probably, in style, most like Taylor Adams

14 possessions, but just 60% TOG ....so he's got some fitness to build

I must be different to most on here, I actually hope Turner turns out OK and gets to add to our AFL midfield/forward rotations as he certainly has a point of difference to several on our current AFL midfield roster. But in keeping with this board most appear to want him to fail as some form of vindication just so they can get their jollies.
Nobody wants our listed players to fail, except maybe you with Lyons, the discussion surrounds taking him ahead of other free hits when we could have gotten him with our second pick. It’s not a hard concept to understand. We can separate the player themselves from the discussion as to why and with what pick. Whereas you refuse to entertain the possibility that an error was made at a talent ID or list management level.

Thank you.

You've just verified you've never watched Turner play if you think he's an accumulator with limited hurt factor.

Of course you were steadfast that Lyons was no good and Gore was going to be a great player. Once players hit the AFL system, your judgement is hopelessly compromised by what they did at junior or SANFL levels.

We’ll see how much hurt factor he has at AFL level. If he’s great, then awesome, but it’s unlikely.
He's taken up a rookie spot on minimum wages so what are your expectations?

If he makes it great.

He has a very short window to prove himself worthy of a further contract.

Are you aware of any of the players taken in the mid season draft having been extended beyond 2022 yet?

So we should hire a gun recruiter for the 1st round then Hamish can take over on half pay from the mid 20’s right down to the the rookie and mid-season drafts. I could live with that.
