Of course we gift games and have done so for years.

The difference is we don't gift games to young players. We exclusively reserve our gifts for "experienced" players no matter how badly they are playing
Hopefully you knew what I meant .....young rookies

Not one team member would object to a gifted game for a milestone ....or senior players being persevered with after a career of great service

That said, there's always a line ....this year, Brown was replaced by Parnell ....again, no gifting there

You're naming Worrell simply because you want to see him and NewChurch at AFL Level .....not because those players have banged the door down with outstanding SANFL form

Cook ....7 games from 17 completed rounds

So who has out performed McHenry, Jones & Murphy ? .....Rachelle, and McAdam :whitecheck: but both are injured

McPherson would challenge Jones ....but again is injured
Actually Worrell has banged down the door with a stretch of good games both this year and last year for 1 solitary game in Cairns wasn't it?

The club released this the day it was announced he was to debut.

Should be an automatic in when Doedee isn't fit to play.

195cm 94Kg athletic running/intercepting defender.

Keays talked today about him and Laird taking slightly less midfield time going forward to accommodate the likes of Soligo. Good idea in theory, but Crouch still being there throws off the mix completely still IMO. He got the majority of the minutes in the 1st quarter in the midfield last week and then pretty much got removed completely after that and looked to spend most of the game trailing behind the other mids for handball receives. Add in Hately as well and we've got contested bulls sitting outside the contest and it leaves us incapable of being able to move the ball quickly.

What a lot of the talk seems to be missing about Crouch is it's nothing to do with his individual performance. It's basically the same as it's ever been, but given the mix of what we have, how he performs in the SANFL becomes completely and utterly irrelevant. He is what he is, he's not a bad player, he's just a bad player for what we need and is currently a big puddle of oil to the water of our midfield mix. It's just head scratching stuff that we force the issue, they know the midfield we're trotting out doesn't work, but they continue persisting with a player(s) that doesn't work because A. they're desperate for experience (even if he handicaps the team on field) or B. Nicks is too nice to leave Crouch out and is caving to media/senior pressure to keep him in.

Do you think Worrell will be retained or delisted, at years end ?

And that wouldn't even make the top 10 gifts we've given.

Remember us gifting Sam Jacobs his 200th game even though he was leaving and we needed to get games into O'Brien?

Or the Mackay recall without playing SANFL at all?

Or Thompson and Van Berlo's last games?

There's been some shockers
Milera has been getting gifted games for the last half of the season. Probably for the right reasons but it's still a gift.

Blight would throw a young player in there without worrying if it was the right call.

What's important to understand is that plenty were stuff ups - Tom Gilligan, Brent Williams, Lance Picioane, Linden Stevens, Andrew Eccles - which you need to have so that you get the Simon Goodwin, Kane Johnson and Tyson Edwards right ones.

For some reason we wait for guarantees?

If we pick Newchurch in a few games for instance and he SUCKS, looks scared, goes into his shell or whatever then that's a good thing because we can delist him and move on. If he shows a few glimpses but battles overall that's also good because we can see into the future that he's got something and gives him a clear picture of what he needs to work on.
It's the Davis/CEY routing all over again. Keep a guy for 5 years having barely played double digit AFL games and never finding out if they're good enough or if you can find someone else who is better.

Like I wasn't super into drafting Brett Turner, but if he's on a 6 month contract, why would you not give him a shot? He's quite clearly shown what he can do at SANFL level the past few years, he doesn't need to play any longer there to prove himself, if you drafted him then you should be drafting him because you think he can contribute, so go find out.

yep.. god only knows what club Wayne’s been following the last few years..

but the crows have been gifting games to their older players for years now.. even when they are clearly injured or way out of form these older players waltz on in on match day and take their spots.

keays has been absolute dogshite for about the last 8 or 9 games and no one’s even questioned it.

murphy has been barely sanfl standard all year.. gets dropped, comes back for 1 game in the sanfl.. gets handed 2 goals on a platter by newchurch, who himself has kicked 4 adn set up several others, and its murphy whos given the call up.. and its murphy who played like hot garbage.

and it will again be murphy who gets the call up to the AFL side before Newchurch.

murphy wasnt even picked up in the rookie draft in his draft year.. Why?.. because he’s shit.

Worrell is about to going into his 4th season having played one game, a year ago.

Why did we re-sign him? There must have been something they liked, his form this year has been decent and there have been opportunities.

So either Nicks hates him or doesn’t rate him, if it’s either, why did we re-sign him?

I knew what you meant but I think it's important to make the point.

In selectively choosing who we gift games to, we erode the "selection integrity" we supposedly establish by not gifting games to young players

Wasn't the knock on Worrell that he was pretty immature ? .....might have been a comment by NBV last year

Which position do you think he ends up in ? .....Doedee doesn't look to be changing his role anytime soon
For starters my money would be on him making a better fist up forward than McAsey who has been afforded that oppportunity and has hardly set the World on fire. A lot quicker, way more agility, better leap and equally as good overhead.

Running 3rd tall defender or even a tryout on the wing....Isaac Smith type wingman...

Never heard anything like that from anyone at the club and unlikely it would be the midfield coach anyhow.

Our handling of Worrell has been disgraceful any way you slice it....Ben Davis Mkll

Absolutely hated we dumped him after one game in the AFL. He didn't play great (but the team in general was pretty shit that night even if we did fluke the win), but just do not like picking a guy for a debut and them immediately dumping them.

Wtf - you haven’t watched one Sanfl game, have you.

Worrell has been consistently solid all year. His non selection is a disgrace.

its pretty clear he either hasnt watched a sanfl game this year.. or if he has its been with his eyes closed.

i think there are a fair few around here that pass comment on how our players are going in the SANFL based on a “vibe”..

'Get the boys to 50 games and everything will be fine'

I don't think this is going to be the magic bullet everyone thinks it will be. Those players still need to have some underlying talent to begin with.
At least at 50 games , say two to three seasons you should have a clue our problem is it takes us so long to work who is worth persisting with we end up with a squad of cloggers

Strachan also. Would be the number one ruck at Geelong.
I bet you he wouldn't...Blicav's has been killing it. Rhys Stanley and Blicavs are a big part of how Scott plays his rucks, both way way more athletic than Strachan especially Blicavs who plays like a tall midfielder once the ball hits the deck.

Esava Ratugolea waiting in the wings another highly athletic Ruck/Forward.

In my mind, as small as it is,
I will let this slide :D

I believe we are patch quilting the side, to look at players / roles ....with a view of year end delistings & getting games into a wide array of players .....
I'm not sorry but this is rubbish. This is first year stuff not 3rd.

By the third year he should have the core of who he believes can play his game plan / style

The 3rd is when he starts asking to value add deficiencies he feels he has

Patch quilting in your 3rd year means the moths are bigger than you can handle
