Re-drafting your own player would be a declaration of war against the AFLPA, and North just isn’t important enough to get support from the AFL.

They’ll be screwed like pinky tuscadero in the Malachi crunch
Thanks for looking after the over 60’s ha ha.

Viscous manoeuvre that was!

Shannon Hurn been told to seek opportunity elsewhere

Main board rumour

Surely not playing opportunities?
It's been said on this board how valuable a player like He urn could be.

I do think his worth for us is now negligible but someone might take him

But yes they won't stand in his way of a trade deal

Seems like almost all of GWS players are getable, they're about to have a mass exodus. Including contracted players. What's a smart move we could make here? They might need players and we can give them some for some decent picks as they'll have a bucket load

Nothing. GWS has been set up as a feeder club for Victorian clubs. It's the only reason it exists.

Or so it appears.

We complain that ROB is on an overinflated contract and isn't performing, and then propose to bring in a 28 year old ruckman that is on an even more inflated contract and is performing even worse?

I wouldn't go near Grundy with a 40 foot pole.
The part that's even riskier is there's minimal incentive for him to get back to his best, HUGE long contract. How often do long contracts back fire?

GWS aren't interested in anyone on our list that we would be willing to let go. Their list still has a lot of high quality players, they have had a long injury list most of the year.

A number of GWS players are likely to leave however to ease their cap problems. Can't see any of them wanting to hitch themselves to our wagon as there's 10 clubs in Victoria after them.

GWS and Melbourne
Rankine was in there too, he's not contracted for 2023.

Yes Rankine should be the clear target. People thought Betts was offered too much when we brought him over as a free agent. I feel almost as bullish on Rankine as I did about Betts except we're going to get more years out of Rankine. Must get.

Then you begin working on JHF. If North concede they're losing him next year and want to abort now you make a move.

Grundy I wouldn't entertain unless Collingwood paid some of his salary AND gave us a decent pick as compensation for their horrible list management.

I’d be happy to throw money at Rankine, especially if we front end it. If he’s actually available we should be doing it, like Dawson he’s a rare talent, and we should load up on the talented SA kids when we can.

JHF would be unlikely, if North think he’s checked out it makes sense to get rid of him while his value is highest, however if I’m the new coach I’d be filthy if the list management traded him before I’d had a chance to establish myself and convince a talent like him to stay.

The money is only half the issue with Grundy’s contract, the length is obscene. He’ll be 33 when it ends and he’s already becoming injury prone. DO NOT TOUCH

Like how posters want all these stars or future stars from other clubs , not understanding if actually got a Rankine or JHF or even Grundy there goes our first round pick at the least .
The only way can get a player from another club without costing good picks is if they are a free agent .
I believe should go with the draft but maybe take gamble on a cheap addition like able to do with Keays and Hinge .
