Thought Damo made a good point in his sliding doors column on AFL.COM.AU.
Very evident of the last few years with below average drafting and only ever targeting one player. I laugh every year when Poort fail to get players but i admire how relevant they try and be every year with recruits

IF...

Izak Rankine from Gold Coast is already a "lock" and pick No.5 in this year's draft will at least in part be required to transact that...

THEN...

why not also have a throw the stumps at Jason Horne-Francis, particularly while the Power and the Roos remain poles apart on what needs to be done? It may be 100-1, but why not engage with the Suns on a creative way to utilise pick No.5? And then obviously offer your first pick in next year's draft, as well as a very good player? But I bet they won't because this club has become pretty boring.

Lol. Barrett.

IF...

Adelaide smashed this trade period and secured the Bont, Daicos and Gawn...

THEN...

Barrett would find a way to twist that into a negative Sliding Doors story.

But then again he has a point. Although I'm not sure putting pick 4 on the table along with our 2022 first-round pick and Melbourne’s 2022 first-round pick for pick 1 qualifies as boring. But then again... Reid.

How are we going to have the draft capital if pick 5 is gone? Who can we even give up to get more? Lastly JHF didn't choose us...

Barrett might be a flog. But he’s right. We are boring. And we should be doing everything we can to come over the top for JHF. Laird and next year’s first. Thanks for coming.

We operate in the shadows moreso than other clubs. Would be a bit depressing hearing about constant failures to lure players.

Even if he is right about us being boring, he's wrong about the reason. Why the **** would we even attempt to get JHF with pick 5 already gone on Rankine? They will want two firsts at least, which we can't offer.

If Matt Crouch does have interest. What about Crouch out Poulter in. I'd like Poulter on our list.

We've become boring because previously every time we made some noise, the Vic Croc-of-Shit media came down on us like a tonne of bricks

Purple Enuff said.

Another that finds it hard to grasp the reality that we don't have the collateral just for starters with Rankine coming in who we apparently committed to a year ago....and like Powa are finding North want player/players that are off limits.

I think Barrett is full of it - and last year we were anything but boring. I reckon if you went back through his comments he was criticising us for not handing over pick 4 for Dawson and how unprofessional we were. Then Reid pulled out a massive deal to get Melbournes pick and the rest is history

I agree with the below average drafting. I acknowledge it is harder for SA clubs WA clubs etc to attract players then if we were in Melbourne for example. Lists sports haven't helped but as we lets say before Rankine we have 4 areas/spots that need attention for instance then Rankine fills one of those spots. In they ideal world I'd like us to fill a couple spots this draft period and a couple next draft period. Not the one spot a year approach.

I'd also love it if we targeted our most pressing need a big bodies powerful mid and we haven't had one since we lost Danger at the end of 2015. That is not far of a decade as we wont have one in 2023 either.

Here's a scenario ...

What if JHF doesn't get done this year (unlikely but possible), would we be interested in a trade with Power for their first round pick this year + something for our first rounder next year?

Power will need capital for JHF in 2023, we could get something decent this year to go after Mattaes Phillipou?

I do not see how JHF ends up anywhere but Power, might as well see if we can leverage that.

Who are the "bodies powerful mids" we haven't gone after since 2015?

We had a huge crack at Dustin Martin in '16 (5yrs, $6m), Richmond just went with a longer deal (7 years).

Stacked! There's that magic word again.

I mean, it depends on the viewpoint. Maybe the Crows think,

'We have a number of young midfielders - Berry, Hately, Schoey, Pedlar, Soligo, Taylor. We think that, with time, they will provide us with the talented midfield that we need going forward, and we are betting on that.'

Whether or not that is correct is another thing. But 'stacked' with potential talent? Maybe.

Stacked with current talent - not so much.

what, havent we provided these blokes with enough column inches over the last 5 years?

What a tool. I'd rather be boring than having scandals and negative stories coming out like we have in the past!

And how is trading our first round pick for 1 of the most exciting your prospects in the league boring? Boring would be doing nothing and sitting on our hands.
