Kayvon Thibodeaux calls himself Jadeveon Clowney 2.0

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2022, 7:31 AM EST

Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux has been mentioned as a potential first overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, and he sees himself as similar to the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Thibodeaux said at the Scouting Combine that he sees himself as similar to Jadeveon Clowney, who went to the Texans in the 2014 draft and has also spent time with the Seahawks, Titans and Browns.

I’m like Jadeveon 2.0,” Thibodeaux said, via the Houston Chronicle.

Thibodeaux said Clowney “was great” but “didn’t have all the skills and tools as far as pass-rush skills and things like that.” On the other hand, Thibodeaux described himself as having “a lot of skills” and “the hunger to keep going.”

Thibodeaux isn’t lacking for confidence in his ability to make a big impact at the next level.

Shemozzle of a combine this season, so many players opting out of the 40 and the bench press.

Combine schedule change prompts prospects to skip the bench press

Posted by Charean Williams on March 4, 2022, 10:16 PM EST

The Scouting Combine moved the bench press to the same day as on-field drills this year. That prompted most prospects to opt out of showing how many times they can bench 225 pounds.

Only 18 of 59 offensive linemen opted to lift Friday, the Associated Press reports. Other positions saw similar numbers of non-participants in the bench press.

“I’m just going to do it at my Pro Day,” Colorado linebacker Nate Landman said, via the AP. “My bench would be at 10 a.m., and my 40 is at 8 p.m. You don’t want to rile up and go back down and then try to rile back up again, which a lot of guys are finding out.

“And it’s a lot of stress, this whole process. And so, when I can relieve that by pushing some stuff to Pro Day, then why not? Just to be at peak performance.”

Organizers suggested the change was made to shorten the time players are in Indianapolis and came in response to previous post-combine surveys. Some players complained that soreness from the day after lifting impacted their workout results.

The Associated Press also indicated the schedule change was made to accommodate the shift of the workouts to prime time for television.

Zion Johnson, a guard from Boston College, has the most reps of participants thus far with 32.

Amaré Barno runs fastest official 40 for a defensive lineman since 2003

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2022, 7:20 PM EST

Amaré Barno is big. And he’s fast.

The six-foot, six-inch, 245-pound defensive lineman ran an official 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine on Saturday.

Per the NFL, it’s the fastest 40 for a defensive lineman since 2003.

Obviously, speed in a straight line is just one piece of a broader puzzle. As someone told me years ago, the only time anyone runs 40 yards in a straight line during a football game is when something very good is happening, or when something very bad is happening. And it never happens without the player in full pads and a helmet.

Still, Barno is fast. That’s always better than the alternative.

Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson ran a 4.75-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

It's another eye-popping 40-time for a very large man at the Combine. Hutchinson, who stands 6'7" and weighs 260 pounds, is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2022 draft, perhaps remaining in Michigan with the Lions. The 2021 Heisman finalist is confirming his status as an elite defensive prospect who has a shot at being the No. 1 overall pick.

Kalon Barnes generates second-fastest 40-yard dash in Scouting Combine history

Posted by Mike Florio on March 6, 2022, 4:04 PM EST

Baylor cornerback Kalon Barnes is extremely fast. Officially, the second-fastest guy to run 40 yards in a straight line at the Scouting Combine.

His official time of 4.23 seconds puts him at No. 2 all-time for the event, behind only receiver John Ross and the 4.22-second 40-yard dash he generated in 2017.

The next fastest 40 came from running back Chris Johnson in 2008, with a 4.24-second 40.

Most of the guys who ran the 40 in the quickest times never did much in the NFL. With the exception of Johnson, really fast in the 40 often means really short NFL career.

So congratulations for now, Kalon Barnes. Condolences, possibly, later.

GG.exe This one's for you

its a touchback. but kicking 75yds with no rush is like the guys who can make 60yd FG's pre game but struggle to hit 45yds in game.

I want guy thats compete at combine, not lets work out under perfect conditions cos that never happens in a nfl game.
TBH, the Combine has jumped the shark. The NFL has turned it into a made for TV event and the demands on the players have become excessive. Most players will end up doing their drills at their pro day.

The Vikings podcast I listen to was more interested in the GM and coach discussions than anything related to the draftees. Even those types of interactions are at risk with some coaches and GMs skipping the Combine this year.

Have done my 2022 QB and almost done with RB, still a fair way to go before I complete all positions.

My QB rankings is pretty controversial.

They all suck so I would assume lots of people have different opinions.

Willis and Strong my clear top two but im not in love with either. Corral #3 ( but hes an injury prone bastard) and Zappe #4 on my next tier then Ritter #5 only cause I think hes slightly less overrated than Pickett and Howell.

I cant overstate how much Kenny Pickett sucks. The ball takes an age to reach targets and dies in the air half way there. Two glove wearing noodle arm.

If drake London isn’t your wr1 we can’t be friends anymore

My qbs would be a bit different aswell

So far this is what I have....(RB, i've done 40 of the 110 candidates. I don't think many of the 70 left will make my final list.

As you can see I've left off completely some QB and RB that are touted. I just don't like them at all -- Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker. And for QB, Cole Kelley didnt even make my list, he's shit, the next John Skelton. Also a bunch of others not worth even listing, like Perry, Crum, Purdy, etc.
