Their cap is so farrrked up they cant afford to pay the Bowes contract or the contract of the pick 7 draft pick. After the initial 2 year contract pick 7 must get min $450,000 contract. Plus they are going to receive pick 5 from adelaide for rankine. Pick 7 is expendable, they will do the deal for a late draft pick.

That is my understanding anyway.
What?

Begs the question on how GC was going to pay Rankine if he stayed. Ditch even more contracted players?

Please in future refer to him as Taranto. I skipped a few pages and had aminor heart moment when I thought you meant our TT. How can this be was the alarming thought that ran through my head.

Apologies for the heart attack!

Sharp, Rankine, Bowes, Fiorini are going which should open some space for them now.

Amazing to have such a surplus of talent and picks that doing this makes sense.

How much better would we have been this year just by inserting these four blokes on our list?

What's the likelihood we just take cadman at 1? Will we bid on ashcroft?

If we held pick 1 I think we would draft with it, no point handing Ashcroft 10k for nothing.

As for who we take I'm none the wiser, on a given day it could be any of Cadman, Wardlaw or Sheezel IMO and even then I can't rule out Tsatas. Full blanket on four.

At a guess Tucker would be 300-350k
Bowes 850k.
He would want to be better.
500k is another good player.

Tucker costs us draft capital. Bowes give us another top 10 pick.

I wouldn't care if Bowes was a complete dud, a 2 year deal for a role player with pick 7 is worth it. Especially for us when we need more elite talent and have stacks of salary cap space.

He wont be signing anywhere for a 2 year deal. 4 min I reckon.
That is a lot of the 13.5mil salary cap.
I would be fine with it if we had already extended LDU, Buckets and JHF.
He is a decent player I agree with you and pick 7 would be lovely.
But he needs to pick us before it is even an option.
Tucker will be cheap depth which is perfect for us.
Sign Logue and Tucker and we still have 3 open list spots for senior players.
It is not one or the other.

If the Bowes deal goes through to Geelong, then I would want Geelong and Gold Coast's recent trading history to be investigated by the AFL.

It would essentially be:
2019: Geelong traded pick 27 for pick 15 and pick 67.
2020: Geelong traded pick 52 for pick 27
2022: Geelong traded pick ~20 for pick 7 and Bowes

Bowes would be an upgrade on a lot of bloke that played regularly for us this year.
If it’s just cash and a future 2nd to get Bowes and 7 then we should be all over this.

After Logue it should be our number 1 priority.

I hear you. But just throw caution to the wind for a moment, and imagine getting the two highest ranked KPPs in the whole draft this year.

Logue, Clark, Bowes, Tucker.
Cadman, Busslinger, Harvey.

All its missing is a small forward and - financials aside - its a perfect haul for where we are at.

I think Logue means we don't necessarily need Busslinger as much as we did a couple months ago.

Bollocks, bid and make brissy pay full whack 10k is irrelevant in a good contract

100%. Basically one of the most successful sides in the last 15 years hugely benefitting from the AFL's GC draft compensation

I think people need to remember that you are not getting Bowes and 7 for nothing going the other way. GC will want something in next years draft. If we offered either of our future 2nd, yes, we get 7 this year, but then we are most likely out of the second round next year if we also bring in logue, tucker, clark and anyone else we are looking at.

List spots also come into it.

Personally I would be happy at not having a second rounder next year, but not sure I could stand all the sooking for a whole year when people look at our draft hand and complain we have pick x in the first round and nothing until the 40s conveniently ignoring all the players we brought in with those picks
