l would think Hill, Hall and Ziebell will be automatic inclusions for the first game ...

This was our round 23 side this year. With all the players coming to the club who's positions do they take. l'm looking at Logue, Tucker, Hill, and Clarke, ..also bearing in mind we still have Ziebell, Anderson (unless delisted),Hall, TT, Curtis, CCJ, Xerri, Turner, Polec if fit, and Phillips, (when ready) to come back. Seems we may allso be looking at Bowes, Gunston and Bedford. Players highlighted would be the players l would expect to make way for them..So what would our 1st round team look like....Thoughts please!

[39] Flynn Perez,[23] Ben McKay,[4] Aidan Corr

[17] Lachie Young,[11] Luke McDonald,[16] Aiden Bonar

[31] Josh Goater,[9] Luke Davies-Uniacke,[8] Bailey Scott

[44] Cameron Zurhaar,[30] Charlie Comben,[5] Curtis Taylor

[35] Charlie Lazzaro,[20] Nick Larkey,[6] Jason Horne-Francis

[22] Todd Goldstein,[12] Jy Simpkin,[10] Ben Cunnington

[1] Jack Mahony,[18] Hugh Greenwood,[24] Tom Powell,[42] Kallan Dawson
Well you did ask for thoughts. I appreciate it's a small glimpse and a lot to play out blah blah, but imo there's no way in hell Goater's making way for anyone.

He's exactly the prototype our recruiters ( when we get some) should be using. Tall, rangy, quick, good tank and can hit targets. There were about 15 of them running around with the Pussies on the weekend.

l agree that Goater should play but it's most likely he would be one to make way for 1 of the imports..

The Hill talk seems to have run it’s race. Thankfully.

If it were good enough for Andrew Swallow to run around in the 2’s in his last season, it’s good enough for Ziebell.
Yeah, the Sydney game was great but if an emerging player had similar output they’d have been dropped well earlier. It sucks because he’s been great for us over the years but we need to address the issue of output across the board and his 2022 does him no favours and a resurgence seems unlikely. That said a new game plan might help him

"If a club tries to dud another, those who feel they’ve been on the wrong end of the bargain will remember. With live trading on draft night, you never know when you might need to call in a favour.

“The occurrence and the regularity of a win-loss scenario is very rare now".

^^^^

Good hope we remember that next time we're dealing with the Tigers!

oh well

On the bowes thing what if….

(Need to do the sums here balance out the pick side as you wish to balance it up)

Assuming they get 5 for rankine.

Pick one and PPf2 for 5, 7, 2nd rounder, third rounder and Bowes.

Bowes would be an upgrade on a lot of bloke that played regularly for us this year.
If it’s just cash and a future 2nd to get Bowes and 7 then we should be all over this.

After Logue it should be our number 1 priority.
I think it's the cap squeeze tbh. Don't want to end up not being able to offer mckay a monster deal next year.

Hill is apparently staying at Saints.
If Hall has to be in then he replaces Perez/Young. But I would prefer them.
If Ziebell is put in for politics then he can replace one of Powell/Phillips/Taylor on the interchange.

im running on the assumption we can get picks back with the pp trade as long as a player is involved

I don't think we have the list spots available. Even Bowes plus 7 would be two list spots we've not considered.

This is a fair point. That said hasn’t stopped Carlton splashing the cash

I wouldn't trade our first next year for 7. I wouldn't even trade it for 3 from GWS. Let alone paying for the salary dump.

Next year's draft is better and our pick could be number 1.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing here.
Why would anyone be giving GC anything substantial back?
Bowes is owed $1.6m.
The club that owes him $1.6m is Gold Coast.
Bowes doesn't have to do anything and he gets $1.6m over the next 2 years.
Why would he want to spread it out over a longer period of time because the GC accountants messed up?
Why would anyone pay $800k over two years, for a player who isn't AA level, to take on a contract that isn't their problem, just to get pick 7, if it meant they had to give back a future 1st rounder?

I think we can get 8 spots with further delisting and moving players to rookie list. But yeah ideally we’d have the picks on draft night and offer spares for futures I guess.

I just want a shot at Cowan

But if we were counting hill there’s one spot

I refer you to our learned friend, Mr Buttox KC.

So out of contract 2022 we currently have the following

Turner, J Walker, Jed, Atu, Kyron, Mcguiness (cat b), P Walker.

Orange = on thin ice
Red = Already Delisted this year.

If the oranges all go.
We will have 8 open list spots.
Players coming in so far
Logue, Tucker and 3 minimum national draft picks. So 5 of the 8 are already spoken for. 1 of Turner, Jed, Atu and Walker is already gone.
Clarko said he wants to bring in 5-6 senior players. Only way that works is if all the guys in Orange are gone.
That is how it stands currently.
For mine the best we can do with the last 3 spots is
Clark
Gunston
Hill/ Bowes
Hope this helps.
So in this hypothetical I think we could do Wardlaw/Cadman + Harvey + Tucker + Logue + Gunston + Clark + Bowes + pick 7 before we're full.

But if he stays at gc and gets his 1.6m and plays seconds.... then what type of deal is he going to get post that? Be minimal. otherwise he goes to a team where he will be playing firsts and be exposed and potentially get a much better deal in two/three years

Sure but I guess the push factor here seems to be that GC is running out of cap space fast, more so than his interest in getting game time?

Suppose trying to say win win win.... win for gc cap space relief, new team get a good player with heavy price tag but offset with high pick, player still gets his money plus the stage to play on to get a good contract again in 3 yrs
