My respect for Cal has dropped and not because he’s the ‘newsmaker’. He is more gleeful about the deal than fireman Kane in making sure it happens.

Honestly, he is simply reporting this and hasn't potted us at all. When to great lengths to suggest that this might be the opportunity to get ducks in a row at the same time and cited examples of GWS & Adelaide. Let's not let our personal disappointment have us turn into desperados on a witch hunt because someone was given the information first.

Isn’t a witch hunt and has nothing to do with personal disappointment. The guy has been tweeting that we must take an offer all night and morning. Doesn’t scream impartial.

Isn’t a witch hunt. The guy has been cheerleading for a move and that we must take an offer on Twitter all night and morning. Screw him.
I agree with him. Take Pick 8 this year, the first round next year, and perhaps a developing player and move on. Great deal for us. We get three talented footballers whose character will not be questioned this time with Viney at the helm rather than Luff asking the questions. We get this year's best talent outside Ashcroft from our own pick, another exciting talent with pick 8, we will be in the bottom four next year (probably bottom again potentially) so will get a superstar there as well, and hopefully Port fall and finish in the bottom 8 as well which gives us a second early pick in a deep draft. Furthermore, the bullshit around will he won't he is gone and we have one less distraction while building our next contender. It's all about committing to a path and executing it. Remember the joy at watching Will Phil, Laz, Ford, and Powell in year one really get after it and the optimism that gave us at the start of this year. We can mirror that enthusiasm in 2023 now we have moved the big ego out of the way. This is a huge win for us, get the deal done.

That was the bare minimum offer and the wording suggests there will be some sweeteners on top. Not too bad honestly. I wonder if there's still an interest in Miles Bergman.

Yes would be similar to the Henry situation and be the feel good story we desire, the reuniting of two non brothers at North.

I doubt that we’ll get that deal that involves a decent player because there won’t be a decent player that wants to leave. They’ll offer their mid-firsts and leverage the go-home factor. The Ashcroft bid will push that out. If we are getting a crap offer this year, I’d rather wait until next year to get the same thing.

I have doubts JHF would even try to stay professional, I'm of the opinion you have to move these sorts of blokes on when they've clearly been thinking about leaving for a while, and carried on like JHF has. Holding him to the contract would just bring out more of the sulking and petulance, and would we want that around our young playing group?

Respectfully disagree. And listen to the media shit storm for another 12 months??? It's time for us to be united and clear on a path and if that means we get two mid-first-round picks then I could live with that. I am sure there will be more to it though, even a mediocre player or their pick 27. It's time for us to completely reset and it gives us that opportunity to do so. No south bound passengers on a north bound train.

This isn’t just my stance though and in the end we are just offering up different possibilities. The club statement and the contract make it a distinct possibility that we aren’t selling if we are being offered a crap deal. Now Rawlings may wilt like he did on the CCJ trade, or get his back up with Viney over his shoulder, who knows.

Would use the Papley example here, albeit, under different circumstances.

Tbh, I fully expect us to accept some variation of 2 picks, but I doubt it involves a decent player too.

It will be a top 10 pick this yr and either a player or a future first rd pick imo. That will be the major thing we will receive there maybe some late swaps as well .

young was given a 1 year deal - bonar not going anywhere....

Yes my post was a tad tongue in cheek. And we did much better drafting shitmen, no other club wants them so they never leave. Just looks good in the player retention books.

The minute you start drafting talented footballers you're at risk of losing them to elsewhere.
