Payne is pretty shit though. Andrews playing the more interceptor role these days. He's more the Wilkie hold his man to a low score type. I guess they want to use Dougal like they use Andrews.

We’re killing it because our trading/drafting has been first rate. If anything we criminally underrate our players and trade them for unders while talking up everyone on the market as worth 2 first founders, that’s the joke on here imo.

It sounds like they are going to hang Gags out to dry in the review. Possibly due to narrow terms of reference but if that's where they are concentrating their focus his buying high and selling low is probably a very big part of it. He seems tight with the purse strings so it isn't excessive contracting

Ross was played out of position last year and was playing a team role. The crap he got was way over the top

He did a few really soft efforts in defence....possibly like me doing housework tasks I don't like, you do it so badly that no-one ever asks you to do it again. He looked like he tried to slow his game down and he's shocking when he stops and thinks. All his best work is when he picks the ball up and moves it through instinct. That's something Bevo encourages his players to do. Go fast and instinctive over slow and methodical.

Gardiner is a strange one. Not knocking him but I would’ve thought they’d go for a bigger bloke. Howard is solid but I reckon we need someone to compete with him for a spot.

Billing’s always looks like he is reacting to the game and fazed by what is happening around him. Which is frustrating because he has some good qualities as a afl footballer but the reason mentioned above I think stops him from taking the game on.

I remember early on he played games in which he took control like the bulldog game where we came back from 50 points. Other moments that come to mind are against McVeigh and Burgoyne were he only had eyes for the ball, got the ball, took the contact and moved the opposition player off the ball. Moved forward and delivered it to one of our forwards.

Is it the way he has been played? The way he was coached early on in his career? Or is it just simply his mind set?

Nearly the whole team was awful last year. I actually think Ross is often good with the ball from a free kick. He actually takes a look and tries to hit the best option. He does slow down a bit too much sometimes tho but he often does pick out a decent option.

Agreed, his confidence looks shaky at best. We all know he can be a match winner, not sure what it will take for him to finally flip the switch.

“He’s always had a bit of a knock on his disposal but I’m just more thinking for him he needs to explore another opportunity and try and resurrect an AFL career, which has kind of just stalled at the moment.

“He’s dominated VFL this year.”

I think the way he's been coached has affected his mindset.

His foot skills are not great but we need a mid with pace.

Had my attitude to key defenders changed finding out May was only 193 cm.
If we can utilise Doogs height, AA or thereabouts Wilkie's nous, Battle who keeps improving, and then we have Coff, Highmore and even Sharman down back for depth, a key forward like Gardiner would be fine.
Have lost Darragh, would say Highmore might go for more opportunity, Webster either at the Saints or gone, Coff coming off a knee.
Hopefully they settle Sharman into a position, don't do a Battle on him and muck him about.

Unless Carlton are desperate to get rid of him (alarm bells) then the cost pick wise would be an issue (especially for someone who would be a fringe player at best).

If we're trying for value & to take advantage of Carlton's bulging paper bags, then Setterfield is OOC & a big body. His last half of the season showed he still has some talent.

May is an absolute monster of a man. He's 193cm but like two Josh Battles gaffer taped together. His lack of height is negated by his strength & body work... it's absolutely elite.

I don't mind Gardiner as a Nathan Brown like cheap FA option to play FB. He's as honest as the day is long & would release Doug to be used elsewhere.

If Hill leaves for Norf with the highly rumoured end of 1st Rd pick coming to us for him, that’s 2 top 10 picks & 2 picks in the 20s…

Then just hit the draft & take 1-2 free agents

Despite being quicker and having around 40 games more experience by the end of 2021, comparing his 2021 season to Jack Bytel's gives.

Richo made a lot of players doubt themselves and billing has had few opportunities since when he’s been injury free to prove himself. I’d like to see him challenged to play the high half forward roll and hit the scoreboard.

He’s produced nothing at Carlton and I’d nether call him quick. I watch the blues as my son in law is a massive blues fan. I’d say Dow is worth a chance based purely on his under age form. Carlton supporters have been all over him since almost day 1 so maybe a change of scene might turn him around but he’d need to be cheap.

Agree with this and Rors initial post.

Hit the draft if we can do what Rors proposed especially if we got say DeGoey and Darcy Gardiner as FA's.

Only fly in the ointment is the Hill trade. Still think North are doing the chasing and need to make it happen. Hill is after all contracted, and we aren't in fire sale salary dump mode.
I have a feeling the AFL will give North and end of 1st round PP and stipulate they need to trade it. Clarkson and North have made lots of noise about Hill, and I feel that the AFL would want them to make a splash with a 'big' signing and Clarko is still in honeymoon period. Saying that we aren't going to make off like bandits, mutually beneficial if we got the PP and even paid 200k of his salary. Frees up over a mill and then our FA's are well and truly in play and Rors evil plan could come to fruition
