Ppl quickly forget how good McAuliffe is and has been throughout his junior career. Super strong, never dies wondering, in the trenches, goes from the first bounce to the last. He'll likely make a captain one day. He might not look classy or pretty with the way he goes about it but he is a good footballer and has a powerful leg. Makes the ball travel through the air quickly. If not for his injuries he'd be in first round conversations.

Clubs are smart enough to know whether he’s a 1st rounder despite injury

So be interesting to see where he falls

I think in the mid 30s or so but only takes one club

Melbourne fave up 14,27,35 to get 11. I doubt they would be interested in getting not much to drop 5 spots

I agree, but if I come in hot on an opposition board generally it is met with instant resistance so here’s the kicker:

WCE OUT: 37,58,F1
ADEL OUT: 10,14,20,F1.

Would you still do the deal? I acknowledge need high end talent but we also need a lot of youth. If Crows are happy with this deal I would do it. There’s definitely two camps on our board, one that is a hard no on trading F1 and one that is keen to trade into this draft and sliding next year.

The deal that should be used as a bench mark was ours with Carlton. If WCE see a player at 10 they really want or 14 they really want, then we trade that pick and do a swap of 24' 1sts. Don't forget we finished outside the top 8, WCE had a horror run with injuries and will have Reid and a few others in their team and could move away from the bottom if they have a good run.

Yes absolutely. Four first-rounders in total (none premium quality this year admittedly) and the unknown outcomes of both teams next years F1 is what JR would call “walk away price”

Hawthorn likes small forward Nick Watson and Western Bulldogs are eyeing gun midfielder Ryley Sanders, leaving star goal kicker Nate Caddy for Melbourne.

Highly-touted Western Australian key defender Daniel Curtin could slide to GWS Giants, although the Giants are well-stocked for key defenders, prompting clubs to eye a potential pick swap with GWS.

Geelong also likes 193cm Caddy, who can play forward and through the midfield, although he would have to slide to their chance after the Giants.

But generally clubs are not keen to slide back in the draft order as the bulk of the top talent is inside 10.

Surely North, who now definitively have the worst key defensive stocks in the league (their best in this area is probably Logue, who is out with an ACL anyway), and who already have a solid batch of talented young midfielders - LDU, Wardlaw, Simpkin, Thomas, Powell and Phillips (once he finds some more consistency) - wouldn't then go and select another two midfielders in this draft, right? Surely there's no chance they pass on Curtin.

2. Trade up for a specific target. Would be done on draft night if the player we desperately want is still sitting there in picks 6-9. Unlikely, but not impossible.
3. Keep and use our picks as they are. Might include trading a pick out (20) for a future pick. Seems most likely.

Interesting that Reid said the other day that Thilthorpe was not a ruck, but was a forward ruck, putting that commentary to bed.

Clearly, the intention is for ROB to ruck for at least another 3 years, he could probably go until his mid 30s to be honest, that's a possible 5-7 years. He's super fit, get's his body right for each week better than most, and has been durable so far.

There's not many here who think that a ruck is overly important to winning a GF - likely the club thinks ROB is good enough.

Reid made the point that we have had 4 rucks on our list before, and it just doesn't work, you can only ruck one at a time. He also said (or alluded) that we could always pick one up mid season if neccessary.

My thoughts are we are not getting a ruck this year, and that ROB will be ruck for the crows for a while yet...

Despite the fact that the AFL said they’d review whether to give them those picks if their form improved significantly over the course of next year.

I listened to the Sensible Crow Podcast for the first time the other day and was genuinely impressed on all levels:

• the hosts knowledge, pacing, guest interaction and overall delivery which isnt always easy (I used to host an hour radio show per week on local radio a few years ago and its not hard to bugger things up)
• but also the guest specializing in draftees focussing on Crows needs and likely candidates around our range
• then having JR speak for a decent time and being as open as he possibly can be (which clearly is limited)

Why in the hell would anyone criticise this Podcast and poster? Gets better access to the club that almost anyone else here and its produced well with lots of work going into it for our benefit. Well done Feenix

thats almost the exact analysis I posted to Bicks the other day. Pick 8, and possibly 7, are seemingly the only options and we still miss out on the elite mids unless Sanders is deemed in that category AND he falls that far

Id be very open to trading with Geelong with 10 & 14 for 8 & 25. We are in need of that ideal player. Geelong need more 1st rounders to pick talent as they are thin on the ground with young talent..that sort of trade on paper should work really well
