Agreed.
Kudos to Reid getting that Curtin deal done. In affect Curtain for Doedee. Massive win.
I think we have to look at Hamish though with Oscar.
He used a round one pick on a speculative player that may have floated to the end of the draft. I don't recall him in any phantom drafts.
If he was in our plans, we should have used our fist rounder and traded for an early second rounder plus a future second.
I agree that Oscar Ryan is not a good pick at all, game footage is ordinary at best. Moir, McCauliffe were still on the board and another half dozen with real potential

I've gotta say .....this was a great haul of draftees

Curtin, IMO an equal top 3 in this Draft with McKercher .....only Reid & Walter in front of him, and arguably the best Draftee we've taken in this rebuild .....Rankine being a trade

As I said pre-Draft .....Edwards was the tall midfielder, and I do like the Adam Cerra comparisons .....Wilson the winger, surely we're happier taking a Mid over a flanker

Oscar Ryan ...who ?
That said, another quick 187cm player with aggression

The Draft has continued Nicks theme, of speed & power .....all three boys have speed, and use their legs to drive out of contests

With Curtin and Edwards we should hopefully get that instant sugar hit. Goad looks like a freak of a player for his height but will probably take a few years to fully get up to speed. For a team that was pushing the 8 this year it'll be very handy to have at least 2 that can slot straight in.

Hamish and team does their best work with picks 20-40. This is where Worrell and Soligo have come from. We don't always get A graders from these picks but I like him having the chance. I reckon they get about 1 in 3. I am pretty cool that Oscar Ryan will end up being better than the other players picked around him at worst and a very very good player at best. Just give it some time (like about 3 seasons).

Every AFL club’s 2023 draft haul analysed, and how their new recruits fit in: Report Card

ADELAIDE CROWS

Picks (at start of the draft):
10, 14, 20

Selections: Daniel Curtin (8), Charlie Edwards (21), Oscar Ryan (27)

Their aggression paid off. Did all their work on night one — and pulled off the biggest trade coup, winning a hot race for the Giants’ top 10 pick to select key defender Daniel Curtin. While the Crows have a few tall backs on their list already, Curtin looms as a big upgrade should he blossom at AFL level and could play early in 2024. His intercept ability and excellent composure with ball in-hand was eye-catching throughout the year across all levels. Despite trading, the Crows still kept two more first-round picks and got their man Charlie Edwards — a 190cm bolter from the Sandringham Dragons who’ll give them a big-bodied presence in the midfield — before adding to their defence with medium backman Oscar Ryan, who went a little earlier than most clubs thought. We know how strong the Crows are forward of centre, so they used this year’s national draft to address their midfield and defence.

Grade: A-

Extremely well and the Powa given their hand did alright too, 2 very clever small forwards that offer speed, goal sense and plenty of forward pressure, Will Lorenz is Vic Metro's Ashton Moir, came off an exceptional underage year and failed to live up to the promise in his top age year....can he find the 2022 form at AFL level is the question much the same as Moir.
Funny you say that about port - I thought similar with Charleston likely being a real pest for us in showdowns in the future, but their board is fairly non plussed with the picks from what I saw

These gradings can't be taken seriously, only club that got a straight A was the Suns who did nothing extraordinary just taking 4 players that weren't available to other clubs.
Oh I totally agree .....I posted it, because it's the first time we've ever got past a B-

Probably because they've never seen them play but still have an opinion based on SFA, it's not uncommon on Big Footy. I've seen all play and if we had the list spots I'd have had no problem taking Anastasopolous or Charleson, they're both great small forward prospects and would have been in my top 5 small forwards in this draft. 1 Nick Watson, 2. Lachie Charleson, 3. Phoenix Gothard, 4. Tom Anastasopoulos. 5. Koen Sanchez. Lance Collard didn't impress me at Nationals maybe if I'd watched his WAFL games I may have had him in the mix. Koen Sanchez surely will get a rookie spot or a train on shot somewhere.
I can't say I saw Anastasopoulos play or Lorenz play (highlights packages i mean when I say play), But I did look a fair bit at Charleston's highlights and it would seem Port might have got just as good a haul of players with their picks last night as they might have if they had 3 2nd rounders instead to use. Although they looked to have selected on need and just were lucky the needs also appear quite talented. But generally small forwards are back end of draft.

Might take another Academy lad Defender Nick Williams I reckon.

I was more about how GC have so many pick and massive concessions. The AFL need to reign them in a bit.

I dont really mind Gold Coast being given plenty of concessions.. especially when they are concessions that grant exclusive access to their local talent.. they have little chance of getting Father Suns in at the moment..

And if they dont get player buy in they will never go anywhere.. that buy in will come mostly from having local lads that want to stay home and play for their local club.

What shits me to no end is when Vic clubs are given concessions.. especially the smaller ones like North.

These clubs should be sent back to the VFL instead of propped up by concessions. There are too many Vic clubs.. need to cull 2 or 3 of them.

Start with the shite ones.

F/s is minor issue. We have had only 1 that has played at AFL level. MM.
Agree on the VFL clubs.
That club has been about over 12 years. Massive concessions each year and still do not look like playing finals.
