Truth be known maybe we didn't have a problem with Powa or anyone else taking Borlase...

AFL Draft 2023: Port Adelaide takes Xavier Walsh in rookie draft, Crows redraft Hamill, Borlase

The Crows played a dangerous game, but were rewarded at the rookie draft, redrafting two former players as the Power claimed an athletic key forward from WA.
Got to wonder whether Patton might have a higher ceiling as a KPD/3rd tall than Borlase.

First of all well done on nailing the draft, excluding the two charity clubs who were always going to get good players I thought Crows and (unfortunately) Freo made off like bandits given their picks. Would have been a perfect draft for you blokes had the tin rattlers not pinched Goad and he was available with your last pick but Curtin is going to be a star. Enjoyed the pre draft banter, particularly with Big Dub and 119others and the rest, let’s do it again next year as we are odds on to have a pick that will get Draper.

If anyone has any intel on this bloke Rawlinson (rookie draft) from Sturt who I’ve never even heard of it would be much appreciated. If not, I look forward to a bit of banter this time next year. Well done.

Hey Peeps,
First of all. Really well done on your 2023 draft.

Nabbing Curtin, C.Edwards (one of my favs) and Oscar Ryan who looks rock solid is a really good result. Cudos.

We've had a few ask on our board about the actual trade offer. It's been directly confirmed by someone from the Eagles who's part of the draft team, the offer was F1 for 8. Nothing else, just a straight swap.

So potentially Curtin for Draper I suppose.

I hope this help all :thumbsu:

Cheers,
AE

* edit - eaglevision just beat me to it.

West coast have possibly had the best record of playing finals consistantly in the AFL since it became a national comp.

West coast at Optus stadium is never an easy task.. and they play half their games a year there.

I seriously think west coast could finish anywhere between 10th and 18th next year.. would never rule them out moving up the ladder.

Had a list decimated by injury this season.

It wouldve been a massive risk for the crows to do 8 this year for west coasts f1.. especially considering the crows could potentially have a F/S in Tyler Welsh next year that could end up a top 5 pick.. which, if WC did climb the ladder a bit would put that WC F1 at risk.

I imagine the crows wouldve factored all of this in and considered it too risky to just take WC’s F1 for 8. Too many unknowns.

So the best option was to just grab the gun lad this year.

actually yes mate you were the poster i was referring to pre-draft. many thanks for your respectful input on our board.

genuinely the vast majority of crows posters are decent and if you pose the question about Rawlinson on our board I am sure any of our keen draft watchers (JeffCrowe, Mutineer, Thunderstruck, Danger In Texas) would be very happy to share any information or knowledge they may have on him. Personally I dont follow the young guys too much so outside of the top 10 or so draftees I aint much help sorry!

You may be right about next year chatting again about pick swaps etc. There is always a remote chance (I certainly hope not for Crows sake) that Curtin does a JHF and asks to be traded after a year...

EDIT OOPS - sorry I thought I was still posting on Eagles board where I have been over the last hour or so. Good bunch of posters who very respectfully thought that the most likely swap for Curtin was just a straight swap for their F1. Feel free to read on their board the last couple of dozen posts

How so?

Twomey had us linked with all 3 we drafted, admitedly Curtin only came to the forefront when we got wind the GWS pick was possibly gettable for the right price, when that deal was done Curtin was a no brainer.
Ryan is specifically mentioned.
The only question mark they've left out is Goad vs Edwards.
Given this is left out, it's possible there's footage of us talking about wanting him with our second pick.

Maybe we wanted Curtin, Goad and Ryan.

Vader

it seems it was pick 8 for eagles F1 based on the above

Every AFL club’s 2023 draft haul analysed, and how their new recruits fit in: Report Card

ADELAIDE CROWS

Their aggression paid off.
Did all their work on night one — and pulled off the biggest trade coup, winning a hot race for the Giants’ top 10 pick to select key defender Daniel Curtin. While the Crows have a few tall backs on their list already, Curtin looms as a big upgrade should he blossom at AFL level and could play early in 2024. His intercept ability and excellent composure with ball in-hand was eye-catching throughout the year across all levels. Despite trading, the Crows still kept two more first-round picks and got their man Charlie Edwards — a 190cm bolter from the Sandringham Dragons who’ll give them a big-bodied presence in the midfield — before adding to their defence with medium backman Oscar Ryan, who went a little earlier than most clubs thought. We know how strong the Crows are forward of centre, so they used this year’s national draft to address their midfield and defence.

Grade: A-
Where are the posters saying we are a risk averse boring footy club?

- Again this year we have pulled off the biggest pick swap/draft coup by far on draft night. We have got a likely elite player due to our maneuvering both on draft night and prior (getting GCS pick 14 was integral)

- Last 2 years we have brought in elite players Rankine and Dawson and had red hot cracks at others inc Day and Redman (hard to extract clearly). Better in-bound elite players than any other club. One for a bargain price. The other for market value (which will be unders over time)

- We aggressively chased Petty to the point where it now seems fait accompli we get him over the next 1-2 years

- We have executed more exceptional pick swaps that probably any other team in recent years (the Blues pick which would have nabbed Anderson if the AFL wasnt so corrupt, the Pedlar pick from a 2 pick slide, various other picks grabbing us extra points or extras second rounders). Even this year ending up correctly identifying Kangas and Suns as bottom 4-5 teams and ending up with their second rounders - excellent forecasting and pick swaps by our team

- We have chased more AFL 'bad boys' than any other club - Oliver, Martin and even Carey previously. What other club has chased as many other bad boys. Totally contradicts the narrative of many here

I am sick of hearing about the club being boring and conservative. The above proves we are NOT - once and for all

After swapping our future second we weren't allowed to swap our future first under the rules.
So if anything it would have to have been another pick in 2023 if anything else.

Maybe Pick 8 and 20 for F1.
We wouldve been allowed to swap our future first.. because even though we’d swapped our F2… we already had another F2 (Melbourne’s) in our posession..

Having that F2 even though it isnt an original pick of yours allows you to do it.

We have another F2 though, so we could
