With Croft being touted a first round pick, think that forces our hand to trade up to get a highly talented mid. I’m still personally all in on trading for Harley Reid.

Personally I wouldn’t even bother West Coast would ask for a lot for pick 1

We won't get him. GWS have expressed an interest and currently hold picks 4, 6 and next years first. Demons also said to be interested, hold multiple picks, which are a better hand than ours. We would have to trade out an established player to have any chance of triumphing their deals.

If they suspect Croft will get an early bid they’ll like trade out for a future 1st. The bid might come before our second 1st (Brisbane’s) but surely it won’t come before our own pick

I’m not a really a watcher of tac cup football, but I was seriously impressed with Nick Watson.

I think he would change our forward line from day 1. If we get a look at him I think we should take him even with the understanding he probably won’t be a primary centre bounce mid for his career given his stature.

JUH is playing very good footy forward at the moment, but if we are in desperate need of a mid to change the rotation I’d like to see him run through there next season. I feel he could add another dynamic at centre bounces at least.

He was my number 1 target before the season started, we may need pick 2 to get him though. Would be very unusual to see a 170cm taken that early, but his athleticism is through the roof and is one of the best performed players this season.

It would take both the 1st's we have plus our Future 1st. And I wouldn't do that for any player. It's too high a price when our midfield is in need of a big refresh. Reid would be a great addition, just can't see us paying the price required to secure him.

We need to keep our future 1st for next year, looks like we will have some good midfield options to pick from next year. A fair few of the bottom aged midfielders are out performing the top aged prospects thus far.

I'm not as sold on the midfield prospects this year, apart from the ones in the top rung.

Only really liked the look of the two Tasmanian boys as high end mids

Most of what this draft seems to look like ATM is talls and flankers from what I've seen of the champ games. Might be able to sort some issues with our forward line or wings this year would wait for next year on the first round mids where our picks are standing at the moment.

In your opinion, who are the standout mids so far this year and where do you think they’ll go on draft night?

Agreed. Copped a bit of flak for not taking a genuine midfielder in the 1st round of big footy phantom draft thingy, but there wasn't a lot of on offer at that point. We may look at trading up anyway.

I’m obviously not Wizard but for me, outside of Reid, Colby McKercher is definitely the best pure mid in it. He’ll go top 5, seems a perfect fit for Carlton as they need his pace. Darcy Wilson plays more outside at the moment but I’d back him in to become a very capable inside mid, got all he tools. If we were to trade up to the Suns pick, he’d be the one I’d want.

Is this shaping up to be a very shallow draft? I had a view when most the top prospects are mainly talls the drafts are very hit and miss.

Also does a guy standing at 170 being touted so highly say something about the crop? I would still trade up for him. Think he genuinely changes our team year 1.

Only watched Allies/WA game but geez there was talent in that team.

Full forward looks a star. Will be bid on very early and GC Academy so not sure what that does for his points. Other KPF was maybe better on the day and even though very tall (looks like a stretched Poulter) is was his timing and reading of the ball in the air that was most impressive. A couple of the defenders were also really good and look like genuine KPDs.

McKercher was fantastic BOG but his mate Sanders - wasn’t far off - if not better in some respects. He has great breakaway from stoppage capability- both burst speed but also one touch and awareness. Is my favourite but can’t see him getting to 13-18 where we will be. But there will be a lot of talent at that level also.

We have Keath, Bruce, Lobb and Jones all needing to be replaced in the next two years - that is not a long time to get a tall ready. Darcy will be an improvement on Lobb, Busslinger is only one set perfectly for Keath, may have struck gold with JOD. Gardner will need to hold for Jones but must mark the ball more and punch less. But as the move to AFL will need four coming through in VFL and probably a ruck. Will also need to plan in case we lose one of English or Naughty - hope now but can’t have key person risk. So take Croft and if a tall is best in 13-18 I am not against it - even though I would prefer to use both on Mids (need contested and another runner who can play wing) or crumbing forward.

Best case is Croft slips past first round - did you here he had a drug problem and dodgy knees and pissoffyoubastardsmosis in both feet. Poor bugger.

When Caleb Daniel was in his draft year, the write-ups said that on skill and ability, he was top 5. He slid to the 40s because of his size alone, and became an AA, premiership player, B&F, and nobody wants to miss out on that again. Watson is more athletic than Caleb and just as skilled.
