Metro rotated a lot of players today and have a lot of tall forwards. They played 4 talls today in Morris, Elliot, Weatherill and Caddy.

Fingers crossed these other tall forwards start showing something and take eyes off of Croft.

They did. Morris kicked 4.1 and was good up the ground also. Was one of the more dominate displays from a forward this year. Caddy kicked 3 also.

He might replace Elliot next game who was pretty quiet.

I like Morris. I think he's one of those players like Membrey that gets discounted because he's slightly shorter than ideal but ends up being effective anyway. Can play at either end too.

Whoever has a good draft hand points wise. Demons currently have 15, 24 and 34. Sydney have 22,23, 41 and 42. Then there is us, North, and Eagles with some points as well. Obviously things will change as the ladder does, trades and free agency compos. Our hand would be the strongest, but would want a pick back somewhere. If we can get more second rounders, we may even be able to package something that keeps one of our firsts and trade up.

But I still honestly think the club will still chase for now and trade one of the first rounders for a player. I'd prefer we just run to the draft.

Yeah, our picks would allow the Suns to trade down again to teams with multiple second like the Dees and Swans, so a trade with us could be a bridging move to maximise their points.

Given we currently have 12 and 16, which are worth 2335 points and GC currently have pick 6, which is worth 1,750 points we'd be in the box seat, as you say.

Rare opportunity with having two first rounders and Croft as a F/S, as it means we can play our hand a number of ways. Super critical we maximise it.

There’s a couple of really elite tall defenders in this draft - Dan Curtin, Ollie Murphy and Connor O’Sullivan. I know some are against bringing in another tall in the first round. However this draft seems to have more quality talls than mids especially where our picks are likely to fall and the last thing we should do is reach for a mid when we are still a young key defender short.

Preaching to the choir with me. If we don’t trade up, then we have to take best available with those picks and it seems unlikely that both will be mids.

I am in favour of a tall defender. Even though we took Busslinger last year, we could do with another one.

I expect us to get O’Sullivan, as he may be the third one taken…. Unless a mid like Sanders or Wilson falls to us, I would rather take the KPD with our first pick. Mid with our second pick, who are mostly more outside players in that spot. None of the next group of inside players excite me much at all.

If a KPD is the best available at our pick, then I think it's an easy decision. L Jizz has been a great pick up but his time is fast running out. Need a big KPD to replace him not too far down the track
If there are no suitable mids available at our pick, then I think it's an easy decision.

Trade the pick for a 2024 first rounder and take two next year. Mids are that important.

Understand your line of thinking but given our age profile don't think delaying is the right choice. See what Sammy does I guess

Need a minimum of one mid this year, and one next. Your midfield makes your forward and back lines, better or worse than their raw talent levels are. Treloar and Libba will retire after a couple more seasons at the most. Macrae has lost a step already, and Bont is always banged up. Smith is still developing.

If we don't have a couple of inside bulls ready to step up and take over in a couple of seasons. Then our talented forward line will be worse off when entering the beginning of their prime, because the ball won't even get down there. And our suspect defense will be exposed even more one on one.

Which is why I am against the aggressive go all out and trade our picks away mindset unless its Barrass or a gun inside mid with a good 5-6 years left in them at the minimum. I am even more so against trading first away for other teams fringe players who are in and out the teams for a reason. I don't expect them to suddenly become stars for us. Henry, Flanders, etc.

Needs to be a balancing act of bringing in some ready made talent, whilst building for the future so we avoid any big drops offs. If we neglect the gaps in MID and DEF to much longer. The drop will be big, hard and could leave us on the bottom for awhile.

Personally think Moir should be developed as a mid who rests forward.

He is great in traffic. Would love him at the dogs. Imagine how lethal his kicking would be out the middle lacing it to Marra or kicking it 50 himself.

Curtin might want to play as a 195cm mid (as he's done in WA).
O'Sullivan was touted as a first round pick, I suspect Murphy's champs have done his chances no harm too.

A lot depends on where we see Croft's future.

Most skilled player in the draft, and I really don't want him. Definitely not a 'fire in the belly' type of player in the games I've seen.

Aside from one game, didn't have a good championships overall according to some watchers on the draft boards. I'm always weary of those highly skilled, but seemingly flash in the pan types. Consistency is an issue with them. If he going to impact weekly? Or play one good game in four? If we draft him, we'd want to be confident we can get the best version out of him each week. Will be interesting where he lands in the draft range this year, after being talked up as a top 5 player at one point.

Always a couple of guys like that. Start of last year, Harry Lemmy and Jackson Broadbent were predicted top ten picks.

I'd be very interested to see how Curtin's midfield work translates to afl level.

I’ve really liked what I’ve seen of him through the midfield. Definitely think he is capable. He has good agility to work himself out of traffic. Could see it working.
Good kick on him too.

Agreed, we need to utilise what we have right now.

I really want us to trade up. For one I think we'll get a better player in that range and more players suited to our needs. Plus there's players in that range that could play an important role as early as round 1 next year. We are in a premiership window and I think we should look to the immediate future as well as the long term future.

Yep 💯 % agree with the list that we have should be looking to get a premierships now. While we still have a top line midfield. If we can add a pack inside mid that could play round 1 would have to come under serious consideration IMO
