Yes we all saw, however what we saw has absolutely no ability to alter who will be available at our pick selections.

Unless there are some surprising slides I doubt our picks this year will deliver the mid of the quality we crave.

Just blindly taking a player, or players, because his is a mid if there are other positional players who are genuinely better players will do us more harm than good.

We all want gun mids, but I personally hope our recruiters draft the best talent with at least our first two picks. After that it is more of a lottery anyway.
It is not a one draft fix, it is multiple drafts over a number of years.
We started in 2021 and need to continue that process
Pou, Windy, chito, Dow, Henry, etc are our future mids and we need to get more. One or two or more of those will fail as a mid, we need more as we go forward.
We need to churn through them but we can't of we don't select them.
A Bont or Cripps etc won't be landed this draft but that's not the point.

Essendon has been linked to Swan Districts’ Riley Hardeman – a hard-running, line-breaking 185cm defender with an improved intercept game who captained Western Australia at this year’s Under 18 national championships. Rival clubs believe the Bombers could be willing to trade with a team who has a first-round pick that would still allow Essendon to pick Hardeman.

Powerful Subiaco prospect Koltyn Tholstrup is widely expected to be taken in the first round, with Melbourne considering taking him with its second first-rounder. Sydney, St Kilda and Collingwood have also been linked to Tholstrup, who was invited to the first night of the draft in Melbourne but will instead remain in WA where he’ll watch the event with family and friends.

Fellow Subiaco product Lance Collard continues to be heavily linked to both WA clubs. While Richmond has also shown ample interest in the speedy goalkicker, rival clubs don’t expect Collard to be on the board by the Tigers’ first selection, with the Eagles to strongly consider taking Collard with their natural second-rounder – the first pick of night two of the draft. Glenelg forward Ashton Moiralso continues to be linked to the Eagles.

Those clubs don't mess around at draft time these days.

I liked him before, even more so now.

Nah.

I’m still thinking my weekend prediction will come true.

Windsor or Wilson (I’m hoping Wilson) falls to us.

Edwards at our next pick.

Would be delighted with that, but I’m ok with Mini Derm too.

Would be referring to Tholstrup as The Perminator.

If you think that's the case then Leake is also a chance. I could live with any of them.
Nah I think Melbourne or Adelaide take Leake.

If Essendon hold their pick. I expect it’s windsor and wilson at their pick and ours.

See my above post based on the rumours for how I think it plays out without a trade right now

Wilson and Edwards would be the dream draft and absolute steals if that occurred?

Higgins is the most almost player in the league at the moment, he just struggles to take it up to a consistent level. His best is incredible but his worst is absolute passenger. He really needs to be a high goal scorer because his speed on the chase is below average and he doesn't really impact a lot in any other way. Butler has his pressure game so even when he's quiet he's quite valuable.
Higgins needs to get fitter. Drop 5kg, he tries hard though and is a match winner on his day. Problem is he is not reliable week to week with his output.

that's definitely one. extremely rare air. interesting read: Nat Fyfe (Claremont/WA) - Draft Profile

It is indeed.

Reading that it suggests when he was young he was very skinny and lacked the body to compete as a mid.

But later as he filled out, and became stronger, that all changed!

I am hoping for same with Phillipou. This year playing in the seniors against men and mature bodies when in the midfield he struggled and was often shunted out of the way. You could always still see Phillipou's quick mind and hands at work, but his boyish body limited his ability to impact in 2023 in the midfield. Hoping to see him stronger in 2024. By 2025 watch out

Melbourne flew all the way to Esperance to talk to Tholastrup this week. Sounds like the are very keen

Esperance is a great spot.
But if Tholstrup likes spending time with his friends and family there ,he's looking at 7 hours and $1500 each way from Melbourne.

i reckon he needs to use the assests he has to his advanage more ... there are long periods of the game where you wouldnt know if he was on the field or not he just gos missing ... i want him getting busier around the contests more buzzing about making a nuisence to the opposition yapping away ... he has one of those annoying punchable faces ... he needs to get under peoples skin so they take their mind off the game and maybe give away a stupid free kick

Esperance is beautiful ... but if you are a cocky young fella its got nothing on being out and about in the big city

Phillipou has the frame that looks like it will fill out nicely. Fyfe looked like an angry pipe-cleaner in his draft year. I can see the opposite with Mattaes with him bulking too much to be a full time mid. Reckon if he works in the gym he could end up with a Kouta type build.
