I haven't heard that but, if so, I wonder how much us nicking Cooper Vickery has to do with it? There aren't that many NGA players that have been taken between 21-40.

Probably a minor factor given they clearly didn't want the option to match changed to top 40 in the first place and likely would've been arguing for it to be reverted either way.

But, there will be Freo ears burning about Jesse Motlop (2021 draft) especially since the eligibility there was for non metro kids to be able to be matched, but not city kids like Motlop - a rule that clearly didnt apply to Vic clubs who we're able to match bids - ie in the same draft Swans bid on Mitchito Owens (Sandy Dragons) at pick 33, matched by the Saints.

Damn shame if any more Tasmanians are tied to the Roos with a Tassie team on the horizon. And besides, the NGAs do not exist as a team, as a club, or anything but some glorified training sessions and an occasional weekend camp. They aren't developing kids, they are cherry picking from existing, known talent that already participates in the game (on the whole)

Players like Lachie Johnsons can be ruled eligible for Essendon, despite moving out of there zone. There doesn't seem to be any minimum participations requirements as there are for the northern academys, where you have to have been involved for -five- years to be eligible.

Essendon a few years back wanted to draft a guy out of there VFL team who was like in his 20s, realised he had a parent born overseas, boom bypass the draft directly added to the list. Mc something.
