This is a terrific initiative.

The Swans are raising money for Redkite, by auctioning player portraits drawn by kids.

Some of the portraits are pretty cool, although I do hope Sir Dane’s jaundice rectifies soon.

I’m determined to win the Gus portrait.

Odd, I wonder what's happened to Fremantle??
It's very weird.

They have issues all over the place. A dysfunctional forward line, an average midfield, and an underperforming back-line. Given the latter is Freo's main strength, it's not surprising then that everything is cascading from there.

But a lot of my Freo mates are frustrated that they play a very safe, very conservative, and very boring style of footy, yet still end up turning it over and then getting killed on the turnover. It's an incredibly dumb game plan. They could afford to play this way last year when they had their classiest player by a mile in David Mundy still there, as well as his protege, Sam Switkowski in ripping form. Now there's no Mundy, Switkowski has had an injury-interrupted year so far, and so they just have no class anywhere on the ground.

What do you do with that? Play it safe to avoid an inevitable turnover, but fail to score enough yourself? Play aggressive and attacking to try and score, but then get killed on the turnover anyway?

I can kinda see why a coach dealing with a team like that would be sitting in the coaches box thinking, "WTF can I even do here?" But it sounds like he's not making much of an effort to disguise that, and it's just sapping their culture of any sort of confidence or belief.

Matt Taberner has had a back operation , was in a bad way , they haven't even mentioned it

Sometimes you can be just plain unlucky;

Didn't see the game and all the talk seemed to be about Bontempelli but..
Tom Green (v WBDs) 38 disposals, 3 goals, 8 clearances, 9 tackles and you are only (according to the coaches' votes) second best on the ground. :(

And the highs and lows;
Jai Culley not selected in the Nov 2021 draft, goes back to the TAC Cup as an overager, plucked from chicken shop obscurity, in the 2022 mid-season draft, debuts late 2022 for West Coast and in his 9th game, on the weekend, does his ACL. :sadv1:

Who noticed?
THE AFL’s decision to quietly abandon the emergency field umpire got its first test at the weekend.
Last night’s St Kilda-North Melbourne game was officiated by only three umpires at Marvel Stadium.
Field umpire Jeff Dalgleish strained his calf in the warm-up, leaving the officials to take charge of the game a whistle-blower down.

However in extremely good news,
The AFL has maintained an emergency goal umpire....

Which gives me an excuse to post possibly my all time favourite AFL/VFL clip (1966 GF)

They don't make goal umpires like that anymore. Such drama, such courage.(Can you imagine him with the video review system?)
Personally I've always felt the thought that St Kilda might win a Premiership was all too much for him..

Just a random thought about our bad goal kicking. People are saying we should get a Tony Lockett type in, or someone similar. Why isn't Horse doing more about it. Lets remember, he's a Coleman Medalist and leading goal kicker for North Melbourne for 4 or 5 years. Surely he can provide better training on goal kicking. Just a thought

Sorry Swans, but you can’t enforce a “boo ban”.
Back in 2001, the SMH had a “boo a roo” campaign when North were trying to play home games in Sydney. Sydney has clearly evolved since then…..

You can’t stop booing, Jason Horne Francis gets booed every time he plays in Melbourne. Hinkley has defended him but that’s all you can do. Same with Longmire defending Buddy.

People pay money to see the game. They can boo if they want and as long it’s not racially motivated go for it.

Hmmn. Had forgotten that. I have been into Boo a Roo since the 60 s. For a host of reasons.

Despised Dugdale who I played cricket against, Aylett who was insanely jealous of Skilton and hated South and was bent on our destruction.

Van Rooyen quite possibly the worst suspension I've seen. Probably an unpopular opinion in this day and age of protecting the head etc. but any contact that's even remotely accidental shouldn't be suspension-worthy. The very nature of an "accident" is that it's out of the player's control. So what's the point in suspending someone for it. It's not like it's gonna stop them from doing it again, because if they could stop themselves from doing it, they wouldn't have done it in the first place!

Just over this sport tbh. Thank god I have the Swans.
