The pity is that the Swans are anti gambling advertising but 7 and the AFL are pro.
My youngster (now 37!) was driven 20 mins to training at Wests and up to an hour for games in St George District in the 90's. Seems it's gotten worse, not better!
Im on the North Coast.. so distances are different up here. A different example of junior footy may be..
My 12 yo won his soccer grand final 2-1. It was such a close contest and to watch the kids (boys/girls) play their hearts out, play for their team mates and celebrate or console each other at the final siren was something us parents and the kids will never forget. An Excellent game.
My twin 12yo nephews played for the same club Blakey played for (Eastern Bulldogs I think) in Sydney. They won their grand final this year also. But they won by over 100 points. My nephews dont feel or recognise the achievement from winning the Granny. Seems a very uneven comp.

When Kane spoke of the NGAs. She said the AFL wants to represent the diverse community. Absolutely!
I would push for financial support to be placed in junior footy for all kids from all cultures to run around on a saturday morning chasing a footy, rather than for a few of the very elite. More kids playing, the better the comp is, the more the kids enjoy playing, the better they get - and then the more kids play... and so on the Snowball effect.. And at the end of the day Kane and the AFL achieve their goal of the AFL representing the community - but they achieve that goal organically rather than superficially.

100% SG. I grew up in the Far West. Even worse! Long time ago.
I'm O/S so missed what was said and how it was said. I fear we have a long way to go to get past the Melbourne "Boy's Club". More money into local footy to support volunteers instead of head office wallahs would be a great start.
Cynical, Moi?

Listen to what Kane said FFS!

and yep my 12 yo has now quit AFL and is playing Soccer (show some respect and spell it correctly).
The comp up here is too small - Hes not prepared to drive 40mins to train and up to 2hrs to a game. Soccer is 5mins to training and less than 30 mins to a game. Oh, and his Mum won't let him watch the Swans play because of the amount of gambling advertising. Fair enough.
It used to be called W ball , so sokah is okay.
I hate the gambling adds and i have played and watched Sokah

I think Josh Francou changed the way we set up. He was really good with the mids when our rucks were not always the best. After next year will tell us how much influence Pyke has had. He will take up the job of CEO of the Eagles

I believe he's knocked it back , but could be wrong

What i'm saying is that it can't change overnight
I don't think people are expecting it to change overnight. Incremental change would be nice though.

Instead, the changes that happen seem to only ever benefit the traditional footy states and hurt the Northern states.

Like trade bans, like removing COLA, like the NGA picks, like the grand final MCG deal extension, like a mid-season trade period.

So any small gesture that the AFL wants to change the status quo would be nice, but no such gesture seems to have been offered.

I'd expect nothing less from you!

Just saying that Fitzpatrick hasn't been around in five years and yet the pendulum still hasn't swung back the other way towards true equalisation.

He's on record as saying he's assisting in the search, he also hasn't said no. Nisbett will see out his contract which is the end of next season, I think at that point Pyke will say yes.

The McLaughlins remind me of this satire of upper class twits.

This

The change is going in the other direction if anything.

And yet Gill or Dill or whatever the brain-dead ponce's name is puts out a 3 sentence PR statement and we're all supposed to drop to our knees in thanks.

**** off.
