I read that, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. Richmond has used various back-up ruck strategies over the time AK was an assistant there. I guess they're referring to Nankervis-Soldo, which was used quite a bit, for sure, but they also used Grigg as their secondary ruck (quite successfully) for a couple of years, Chol and Balta were used a bit as well, and last year Miller (from the backline) was used a bit. So, nothing there really discounts AK using HH or Riccardi as back-up ruck.

As I often said previously, there could (and IMHO should) be a 'horses for courses' policy. If there's a strong opposing ruck combo or really strong single ruck (so, Melbourne comes to mind with previously Gawn-Jackson and now Gawn-Grundy) then absolutely we should take in 2 rucks. But not for weaker ruck combos where a more nimble player would be better (e.g. Port playing Finlayson as their secondary ruck, or even at times last year primary ruck).
Leek?

Given that Balta was used from defence, as was Miller, that's not entirely untenable. My only thought would be that the Richmond options were first choices in the team, and then utilised in that role. Leek would have to get above Buckley and Davis ... which is possible, but not certain.

Be nice if Cogs got back to near his 2018 form. He has sacrificed for the team too much lately. Get him on ball and leave him there for the majority.
I thought he was pretty close to it last year. Keep that form, or further improvement, and I would be happy.

Thought he was back to it last year tbh when McVeigh took over and he got a full midfield role, was outstanding

I really hope Hogan can stay healthy because he was super important last year, 35 goals, great set of hands and also pushes up the ground a bit to get invovled in link up play. Was also his healthiest season since 2018(!) so there is a bit of cause for conern that he's going to be able to play a similar amount of games again, HH is pretty good but not someone I'd love to be taking on number 1 KPD every week really works a lot better when he can play as a second tall next to the focal point to allow him get involved around the ground more. Cadman's not going to be able to make a real impact this year, Riccardi hasn't shown to be able to do that and based of them trying him in multiple roles already this preseason it doesn't seem like it's every going to happen for him, hopefully the smalls/mediums can stay healthy to support the offset of Hogans likely absence at some point. 30 goals from Bedford and 40-50 from Toby would be a great start, hopefully Stone can take that next step and be healthy same as Daniels. If Jones can bob up for a couple goals in a few games that'd be good too.

Cadman good chance to make a round 1 debut, but the actual discussion seems to hedge its bets

Aaron Cadman: The Giants have stressed the need to be patient with their No.1 pick, but the club are yet to confirm whether they'll delay Cadman's debut until deeper into the year or even later. Nevertheless, the tall forward is sure to get minutes for the Giants' pre-season clash with the Suns next month.

Potentially in the mix: Mid-Season Draft pickup Wade Derksen is another Giant looking to hold a role in Adam Kingsley's forward line, while draftee Harry Rowston could also make a case for Round 1.

I’m confident Tom Green will kick plenty of goals this year. For a guy with such sure hands in the contest, he tended to snatch at his marks in the forward line last year. He’ll turn that around this year.
He reads the play and positions himself so well, he’ll be a nightmare matchup one out.
As a bonus, he’ll setup more goals than he kicks.
Perryman playing mid minutes should kick a few too.

Hard to see Green kicking anymore then 15 and that would be a great result and then hopefully Perryman can crack double digits

Not that sure they'll pick a second ruck, think Kennedy plays over him and they let Preuss go solo

Just being injured doesn't make him not best 22, though!

Recent article suggested AK would favour a "Richmond style ruck set-up", which presumably was code for 2 rucks. But that's the next big guess as to the side's makeup.

Maybe ideally he'd like to have a 2 ruck set up but he also might think of Soldo as a level above Flynn/Briggs which makes the tactic viable, reasonable to think the team fits a bit nicer if Preuss is the sole ruck and you can get away with HH (or someone else) doing a little bit of chop out instead of using a second spot on a ruck who he can't really impact elsewhere on the ground

I think that's a nice summary of the two options!

Think most of the 22 is locked in at this stage barring injuries would like to think Buckley is locked in as KP2 but it's still unknown why he was held out of the intra club (maybe personal reasons the club doesn't want to share publically) if he plays this week would think thats his spot and then the other position battle is KP3 between Riccardi and Cadman. Stone, Kennedy and Peatling are also probably battling for a similar spot in the back end of the best 22, Peatling and Kennedy had a good run on Saturday and got shouted out so they might have the lead at this stage but the whole preseason has to be taken into account. Excited to see if Idun can take a step forward this year either offensively or as an interceptor, he's been great at negating his man but to be able to turn that into intercepts is probably the next step for him defensively. How does Haynes and Ash look is another thing I'm keen to see. This backline as a whole is really interesting to me with a few returning pieces, the whole group is generally quite young but pretty experienced at this point. What are some of the things people are most interested to see play out this week?

Just quietly. I think Idun is the perfect matchup for the powerful midfielders who go forward. Eg Dusty, DeGoey, Stringer etc. He is really sneaky strong and quick and is a great size for that role.

I remember going to the game against Richmond in 2021 at Marvel and he did such a good job defending Dusty in 1 on 1 situations up forward, honesty don't think he lost a contest against him, was terrific

Seems the market consensus is that we won’t make the finals and indeed will be 16th again. Guess Adam (and Toby) will be hailed as geniuses when we make the finals, as I do firmly believe we have the talent to successfully challenge.

Expectation is very low for us externally.

If we start winning, the narrative will change very quickly to 'well they have a great list, they were underachieving'.

Honestly I think our new talent has been pretty good and if the game plan is implemented well in the first 5 weeks we could explode out of the box.

Also none of that could happen and we could end up in a world of pain.

Low expectations are probably a good thing.

Gee, it's not often that I'm the optimist on one of my team's chances, but I would expect us to be in the 4th-8th range at the end of the year and will be disappointed if we're not. The one player we really miss is Jezza, otherwise I'd be heading to the TAB.
