theyve already said it must be a player swap not picks
1. Have the club actually said this or just media? (especially the MUST part)
2. If we are taking that approach - if Melbourne don't come to the party with a player we actually want does anyone think a draft pick wont be in consideration (and much more common outcome in a trade like this)

Yes. Without them, they’d be bottom 4.
any team not having their 4 best players irrespective of position would suffer significantly

what if they traded 2 of them for forwards of equal value? Are they better, same or worse off?

eg
  • Oliver for Curnow
  • Gawn for Tex (taking age profile into account as a similar swap) or viney for Fog

McAdam best case 24, worst a late 2nd so that early mid 30s. My prediction Future 2nd.

Doedee either Rd 2 or end of Rd 2

Doedee will be interesting. Could be as simple as a future 2nd. Or it will be a drawn out pick swap and the crows wait until the last few days of trade week to see what picks Brisbane picks up through other trades. I probably lean towards a future 2nd

He is a free agent and doubt we getting better by forcing a trade - particularly with his ACL

End of second round likely - some hope it falls after our natural second this year which is about 29

I'd be happy with any of McKercher, Duursma (the good one), Sanders or even Curtain (not that he'd likely be there anyway) if we could get Gold Coast's pick 4. Preferably for next year's first and a couple of seconds, but I'd be happy to overpay by adding this year's first for a future second back for the right player. But I wouldn't want to spend that capital to end up with Nick Watson.

But if North get pick 3 compo for McKay and Riley Sanders for free, do we even still want to trade for pick 4 (now effectively 7)?

Are we better off to let the Dogs get 4 and we give up a couple of seconds for their pick 10 and take Connor O'Sullivan (or Ollie Murphy if gone) and Darcy Wilson?

Or try to trade into next year's mid rich draft with West Coast/ North (the only 2 you'd know will be bottom 3) instead?
You wouldn’t want to spend that capital on on to the craftiest forwards seen in a draft, allowing us to move Rach/Peds/Rankine into the midfield more and to create a forward line that would be near on impossible to stop?

Watson is absolutely a quality prospect. But we have a lot more youth investment up forward than in our mids already.

I don't see Rankine spending more than 30% of his time as a mid, and Rachele and Pedlar will still likely be 50% to 60% mid by 2025/26. A classy mid drafted this year could be 50% mid time by 2025/26, giving us a much better shot at a flag while Dawson is still in his prime.

Not really.

Just says we don't want another pick given we have 3 top 25 picks already, but have no interest in James Harmes or Adam Tomlinson who it appears the Demons are trying to get off their books.

Also says the Swans could re-enter the Doods stakes if they miss out on Ben McKay.

I want our club to engage in getting the players they want, not just the players that are available. Forget all the fringe maybe dudes from other clubs like Chol etc. Let's go steal someone, just like contracted players have been stolen by other clubs. We've got money, we've got picks, we've got players to trade out, including some we may even want to keep. Take a risk, go the unexpected! Buy out a contract. This could be our time, don't pussy foot around!

CARLTON could secure former No.7 draft pick Elijah Hollands for a future pick mid-way through the 2024 national draft to reunite him with brother Ollie.

The Suns are bracing for North Melbourne to bid on academy picks Jed Walter and Ethan Read as high as picks 2 and 3, but they will have enough points to secure all four academy products.

So if Hollands landed at Carlton the Suns would want a future pick for a player who doesn’t want for much as an elite running midfielder who has played on the wing and half forward at AFL level.
