I think two teen picks is enough for McDonald as he is out of contract.

Crows got Dawson for pick 15 roughly.

I think Collingwood is more likely to drop down the ladder.

He’ll cost more than Dawson as we’ve got way more to give and he’s a KPF.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the cost is more Jackson than Dawson tbh.

McDonald is the best 18 year old KPF I’ve seen out of WA in years. He might’ve started slower than Amiss has but for a third year KPF he was still bloody good. He’ll be a gun - I’m sure of it.

Of course it’s still the clubs job to get the best price possible but like Jackson and Amiss (if he weren’t on our list) he’s approaching ‘get no matter what the cost’ territory.

These three would set up the club for 8-10 years and mean we’ve got that long to find the midfielders, small forwards and defenders needed to win a flag. Not sure there’s as much left to bring in as people think - a gun small forward and winger, a decent game plan and natural development could have us competing in 2025/26.

Collingwood is a greater chance to slide massively.

A bad preseason, especially to their older players and it could easily happen.

Let’s be honest the pick with the greatest chance of being highest is ours.

I’m not only hoping but expecting Port to drop out of the eight though. In theory 2-3 teams need to drop out of the eight and to me they’re the most obvious (St Kilda are the least talented but Ross Lyon will get them there imo).

I don't care how good he is, or will be. I want us to be absolute pricks to Sydney (Dodora style) and get him for way unders.

Think what North Melbourne did to us with Logue, Carlton with Cerra etc etc.

I can easily see Port and St Kilda missing the eight.

Say we end up with a top 5 pick and then two in the teens (ours and Collingwood), keep top 10 pick, keep second and trade the other two with a f2 for McDonald (and F3 coming back).

13, 16, F2 > McDonald & F3

I might be dreaming but would be a good outcome.

Big year for McDonald. No Franklin, he needs to kick 40-50 to justify that price, but I hope he does and we get him

Apparently GWS have said they will take offers for 7 if they are forthcoming. If Curtain is available (probably not) would we look at trading our future first and something else for 7 for a player we possibly rate top 5?

I'd be surprised if we'd throw at a lot at Curtain given his playing position and the fact we'd need at least 2 F1s to get GWS on the phone. Since we're chasing McD we just can't give that up

Walls even said we'd like to get in the teens but no mention of higher.

My read is we'll dangle one of those F1s to get ahead of WC (23 ->~27) or whoever we think wants Collard or whatever other forward we have our sights on.

Saints F2 might be used to move up the board into the 2nd round this year (probably GC).

It'd be two firsts this year for Curtin and two firsts for McDonald (perhaps more for both).

I'd watch the late first round onwards. One of those first rounders and the later picks for next year might be on the table.

Fremantle and Gold Coast are well placed in regards to future picks to play a game of swaps where neither send our own picks back.

GC/FR first round picks
Dogs/Port first round picks
Pies/North's End of First picks

I'm not super interested in their pick #24 to be honest, but I'd be happy with moving on one of their future firsts that they buy our remaining picks in the 2023 draft with for a pick inside the first round this year.

Something like:
WC take Reid at #1
North pull the bid trigger at #2
GC trade Dogs future first and #26 for Pies future first, #34, #46, #60, #64
Fremantle trade Dogs future first to North for #15/#17/#18 range

Then we pick Lance Collard with #17 and next best at #26 before letting our pick #85 become a pick in the 60s and pick O'Driscoll there.

For some reason it just cracks me up seeing Curtin’s name spelled as Curtain (I’m no grammar Nazi btw, don’t shoot 😂)
It happens everywhere. Even the draft guru's are getting caught out.

Wouldn't the additional cost of trading in McDonald be Treacy?

So, if we do win a flag in the next 5 years, would that make us the only side to do it without AFL handouts and father son?

Add in that the academy bonuses are looking likely to be Walker & maybe Draper who were both extremely late.

Really do like doing things the hard way.

Think 34 and saints f2 is enough to get ahead of West Coast?

34 & 46 for 24 or 26 (might be more likely 26 because Brisbane and Richmond have some good picks to out do our offer)
26 (which will prob push back to 29) and F2 > 21-23 (which will be one of the North starting high teens picks)

It sounds like GC are going to sell 24 and 26 at the start of the draft for more points.

WCE, Fremantle, Brisbane and Richmond are keen.

WCE have pick 37 and then nothing till around the 50’s.

We have 34 and 46. By the time 46 is used to match a bid likely for Rogers it would have come down to around 42 so handy points.

WC best bet is combing 23 with F2 to push up higher.

Adelaide had more to give. They had pick 4 and/or their own future first as potential trade capital. They were able to keep that capital because they had better leverage.
